This paper discusses and critically evaluates the concept of the new spirit of capitalism as developed by Luc Boltanski and Ève Chiapello. Immediately following its publication, Le nouvel esprit du capitalisme [1999] became one of the most distinct points on the map of studies on the cultural transformations of capitalism, and it has attracted the attention of sociologists around the Europe. Nevertheless, in Polish literature the majority of sociological texts omit mention of this monumental work. In order to fill this gap, at least to some extent, this paper serves as an introduction to the ideas contained in Le nouvel esprit du capitalisme. It reconstructs the theoretical and methodological core of the book, the underlying concept of the relationship between the critique and ideology, as well as idea of historical phases in the alterations of the spirit of capitalism.

According to the "Encyclopedia of general linguistics", "language" is “a system of signs [...] used to communicate within the community”. The phrase "media of communication" (colloquially as ‘mass media’) is the collective term for newspapers, periodicals, radio, television and the Internet. For the communication researcher, media are measures of articulation of information, its recording, processing, multiplication and transmission, as well as organization of its diffusion. Language in the media is a form of linguistic messages, shaped, maintained and processed with a view to its reproduction and transmission over the usually institutional channels. So understood language in the media has no specific features that distinguish it from other varieties of language, but various media affect the messages transmitted by linguistic forms. Therefore, it is more appropriately to speak about the language in the media rather than about the language of the media, the more so that language of the media consists of natural language apart from other codes (e.g. film language). Moreover, the language of some media dispenses completely without natural (ethnic) language (e.g. road signs)

In accordance with the biological language model, memes are ideas and values, which spread within a community like viruses. They seem to have a cooperative function, enabling social coordination and a biologically based need for the defense and identification of potential intruders. Memes relate to cultural and language communities, language being the strongest link between people and their social reality, including their physical experiences and psychological and physical reactions to it. Today’s society functions locally, within cultural and language communities, and globally, beyond the nation and its limited territory. Such a global approach has been creating new, very often hybrid values, and consequently, new elements in language, mostly in the lexicon. Bosnian language and society inevitably interact with other cultures, languages and values, mostly through media and the Internet as a typical global platform for communication. This paper analyzes the linguistic content of the most popular Bosnian-Herzegovinian websites, with special emphasis on the global memes/lexical units that are entering its linguistic and cultural space, and which create new values as they adjust themselves to the local context. Analysis shows how much the Internet language reflects global values in this local context, and how this indicates trends of social change in Bosnia & Herzegovina.

Science does not only not exclude faith in God, but it should lead to Him. The same media that are the fruit of human knowledge and skills, and in fact a gift of God, used with dignity can help their users to meet God, to discover Him in other people and bring closer the way of life which He offers to man in the 21st century. These contents belong to the area of research conducted by ks. prof. dr hab. Tadeusz Zasępa in the years 1984-2014, the results of which were presented in his numerous scientific publications.

Rhetoric aims to prepare rhetors and locutors for arguing, and its potential effectiveness no longer needs to be proven. It is employed not only in political discourse, but in advertisement and religious discourse as well ; that is, whenever the aim is to persuade, for electoral or commercial ends, or for religious reasons. But if rhetoric aims at persuading by attracting the attention of the interlocutor, it also has a negative side to it: the abusive exploitation it may give way to.The debate is now open on the abuse of rhetoric, on the power that speech exerts on public opinion and all sorts of audiences. We also see that rhetoric is about “recipes” or knowledge “transmitted,” a knowledge that can used and misused: to defend a just cause or to manipulate. Rhetoric is of interest to journalistic discourse because of its insights, the rules it utilizes to achieve persuasion, and its concern with the process of production of discourse. Indeed, journalistic discourse illustrates perfectly how rhetorical devices can be efficiently mobilised in argumentation, fakes, plays on images, metaphors, and use of polemics. From this perspective, it contributes to transmitting rhetorical devices and principles as a competence common to all human beings and citizens. I will investigate, in this paper, a corpus composed of editorials and news items so as to show how the discourse that circulates in national daily newspapers reinforces the diffusion of traditional rhetoric.

We study role of the author in the author–reader communicative chain in the transmission of information to a recipient by means of a literary text. The predominance of dialogic relations in the narrator–narratator communicative chain and the presence of status-orientated narration prevents from regarding the text as an example of documentary prose and suggests the presence of the genre modifications typical of non-fiction literature.

The authors observed current youngsters performing remarkable behavior in the classroom: short concentration spans, extremist opinions and emotional argumentation, and challenged abstract thinking. Late modern „liquid” society and youngster multitasking are likely causes of this remarkable behavior as they lead to a lack of availability of cohesive narratives and identity narratives. Current youngsters were found by the authors to possess more fragile and less robust identities and were dubbed by them „Generation F”.
