Summary/Abstract: The paper discusses selected aspects of media education in relation to issues currently discussed in the Czech media. It outlines how these aspects are treated in one introductory seminar when teaching three different types of students – secondary school students, university students and University of the Third Age (U3A) students. It shows that students are introduced to the concept of media in a similar way, even though the specific topics discussed in the following seminars are different. The paper stresses the need to focus on critical analysis of media communications using essential questions asking about the ownership of the media, information processing and transmission, the phenomenon of representation, and the audience.
