O raspodeli jote i nekim osnovnim fonološkim pravilima srpskohrvatskog jezika

O raspodeli jote i nekim osnovnim fonološkim pravilima srpskohrvatskog jezika

Author(s): Stanimir Rakić / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 1/1989

Since SC orthography applies the morphophonological principle in the writing of iota, it is important to establish its morphological distribution. For our morphological analysis we used material from Deanović’s and Jernej’s dictionary (1982). Using the theoretical framework of lexical phonology (Kiparsky, 1982, Mohanan, 1982) we were able to reveal some important fact about the structure of SC. Our first consern was to establish the distribution of iota in monomorphemic words, prefixes and suffixes. The examination of roots ending with iota revealed an important difference of SC variants: j appears after i at the end of words in the Western variant in 74 examples of the type laboratorij, kalij, which in the Eastern variant usually end in jum. We have also established that no morpheme in SC begins with ji — a fact which according to Pulgram (1970) should have important consequences for the structure of SC syllables. Roots with final j do not combine freely with, suffixes containing i or j; for suffixes beginning with consonants there are fewer restrictions. J from the affix may follow at the surface r, s, z, ž, č and. exceptionally d (in punomoćje), and j from the root the consonants s, z, b, d, к from the prefix. Final consonants from prefixes do not ptlatalize before j, and this observation may complicate the determination of lexical levels in SC in the sense of lexical phonology. Our analysis also discovered the existence of infixes aj, oj, ij which so far have not been noted in SC grammars. The alternation t — с/....ij is a lexical rule which, in spite of some exceptions, is common for both variants of standard SC. Our statistics have brought out some important facts about the distribution of groups ji and ij in SC. We have found out that the group ji does not appear in monomorphemic words, except in a couple of foreign (borrowings (p. 13). In complex words, j before i is lost, or, in very careful speech, becomes ambisyllabic. These regularities are the basis of the orthographic rule 48c (Pravopis, 1960) about the writing of iota before i. The group ij in SC appears only at morpheme boundaries; in final position and before consonants there is a tendency to delete j (j — Ø) in colloquial SC. Our analysis also shows that the j-deletion in context i....0 is a lexical rule which is applied only in word formation, but disregarded at the level of inflection. The j-insertion in context i....V, (V ^ o), is a postlexical rule which is applied at all lexical levels, but also at the level syntax. At lexical this rule became redundant because of the lexicalization of iota, which is proliferate in SC because of the morphological rule that nouns and adjectives must halve stems ending in consonants. Because of this iota may lexicalize in positions where it can appear as a part of the stem, but never after prefixes (for example *prijanjati), although such writing would be in accordance with pronunciation. On the other hand, the j-insertion in context e....a is a lexical rule which applies only at inflectional level; in this context iota is also lexicalized and appears in the nom. sg. of masculine nouns (example relej). Our observation that the structure of syllables is not isomorphic at different lexical levels has a special significance for the general linguistic theory. This fact has, however, been overlooked in recent literature (see, for example, Clements and Keyser, 1983), although the cuclic application of rules accepted in generative phonology requires «syllabification at different levels in the course of derivations.

O nazivima bolesti i ljekovitog bilja u rukopisnoj ljekaruši iz 18. vijeka

Author(s): Darija Gabrić-Bagarić / Language(s): Croatian,Serbian Issue: 3-4/1987

An analysis of the names of diseases and medicinal herbs in a manuscript healing book from 18th century shows that the so-called supporting literary genres in the Franciscan monks literary production are connected to the products of the same kind in other Serbo-Croat areas. With healing books, more than with other types of text, a matter of linguistic, primarily lexical, adaptation to the area where they were written and appropriate public is called for ... In relation to it is the question to what extent a healing book has been, copied for the personal needs, and to what extent for the benefit of public, so the quality of its communication potential must be determined.

Iz problematike obilježavanja imeničnog roda u srpskohrvatskom jeziku

Iz problematike obilježavanja imeničnog roda u srpskohrvatskom jeziku

Author(s): Jasminka Taso / Language(s): Croatian,Serbian Issue: 3-4/1987

Several problems related to marking of gender in the Serbo-Croat are clarified in a mosaic way in the paper: a) a suffixal determination of gender for the nouns of so-called general gender, b) accent as a phonological marker of gender, and c) a different distribution of gender in relation to number. A general conclusion fits in the overall picture on a behavior of nouns in the case of gender determination, and it does not essentially differ from those already noticed: there are not morphologically relevant parameters upon which the gender category in the Serbo-Croat can rely. What can be seen as a separate and interesting feature is that some nouns have a different gender realization depending on number. In general, it will be interesting to examine the further possibilities of gender-number relation.

O nazivu akrobatskog plesa iz Amerike

O nazivu akrobatskog plesa iz Amerike

Author(s): Danko Šipka / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 1/1987

O nekim aspektima standardizacije naših geografskih naziva

O nekim aspektima standardizacije naših geografskih naziva

Author(s): Dragomir Vujičić / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 3-4/1986

Ojkonimi orijentalnog porijekla u Bosni i Hercegovini sa dijahronog i književnog stanovišta

Ojkonimi orijentalnog porijekla u Bosni i Hercegovini sa dijahronog i književnog stanovišta

Author(s): Hanka Glibanović-Vajzović / Language(s): Croatian,Serbian Issue: 3-4/1986

Author(s): Aleksandar Done / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 3-4/1986

In Memoriam - Život i djelo prof. dr Svetozara Markovića

Author(s): Miloš Okuka / Language(s): Croatian,Serbian Issue: 2/1984

Author(s): Naila Valjevac / Language(s): Croatian,Serbian Issue: 4/1979

Although antroponym accent types fit into our presodic system there first are some that deviate from its standards. Falling accents in other than the sylables are not unusual in the antroponyms of the Moslems of Visoko: Djenïta, Sanèla; Uèir, Abdulhak, and specially those of the type of Teufïk, Sabaduhîn, Abdurahman; Jakub, Farûk. This pre-accent quantity is also characteristic of the feminine gender antroponym accent types: Âlèma, Badèma, which agree with the prosodic system of this idiom.

Author(s): Klaus Schuricht / Language(s): German Issue: 17/2017

The following text outlines a situation, in which first semester students of German language and literature in a south-eastern European country work on their own into the subject of phonetics. This situation simultanously deals with three problems. They are 1) a phonetics problem (the studentscritically discuss the system of German consonants, whereby for them the r- and ch-sounds are the main focus), 2) a problem of university teaching (Which methodical-didactic approaches help students become competent in critical thinking?), and 3) a problem concerning democracy-theoretical questionsand (higher) education policy (fostering and maintaining a body of voters who are capable of democratic participation which is a precondition for establishing democracy – or: How can voters be prevented from turning away from democracy?)

Latinski elementi u srpskohrvatskom književnom jeziku

Latinski elementi u srpskohrvatskom književnom jeziku

Author(s): Bogdan L. Dabić / Language(s): Croatian,Serbian Issue: 3/1979

Author(s): Zulfikar Resulović / Language(s): Croatian,Serbian Issue: 3-4/1976
