Funkcia trenčianskeho mestského komorníka v 17. storočí z pohľadu archontológie

Author(s): Peter Brindza / Language(s): Slovak Issue: 2/2014

The municipal administration in the city of Trenčín had several different elements from most of the cities in the Kingdom of Hungary in the 17th century. One of them was represented also by the urban valet concer-ning the position and responsibilities within the municipal administration. He was not part of the Senate in Trenčín city, but on the other hand he fulfilled the tasks held by Burghers in other cities. At the turn of the 16th and 17th century, the valet became a permanent and integral part of Trenčín government. Due to the increase of economic power of the city and the administration as a whole, the function of urban valet was often considered as a kind of interchange stations for those who had the ambition to be selected for City Council. Those who were already there, they again cumulated interest in authorities because the urban valet organize the flow of city money; senators were trying to get often. The author of the study tries to portray the urban valet as a officer, in particular through the view of the circumstances of the election and his position, competencies and tasks entrusted within the city administration. In the present study there is also chronological overview of urban valet in the 17th century and two archontological profiles of urban valets who made a vital contribution to the population of our history.

Etnický obraz Košíc v slovenskej historiografii od jej počiatkov do roku 1918

Etnický obraz Košíc v slovenskej historiografii od jej počiatkov do roku 1918

Author(s): Ondrej Ficeri / Language(s): Slovak Issue: 1/2014

The article aims to reconstruct the ethnic image of the town of Košice produced by members of Slovak historiography in the period of existence of the historical Hungary. In the development of the ethnic structure of Košice, the most decisive role played the town’s location on the ethnic border between areas with prevailing Slovak, and on the other side Hungarian inhabitants. To define the affiliation of Slovak historiography to the multi-ethnic town of Košice, it was necessary to trace contemporary images of Slovak scholars about the ethnic composition and realia of Košice and answer the question, whether they considered Košice as one of the Slovak towns, and whether Košice became one of the places of Slovak collective memory. The article contemplates what role did Košice play in constructing the Slovak national discourse and, eventually, it outlines reasons why the town, despite a huge potential, did not become one of the significant centres of the Slovak national life before 1918.

Author(s): Mila Maeva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2017

The article examines the movements from Bulgaria to Norway and is based on anethnographic fieldwork. Using the methods of the oral history, the article analyzes the road to the north and the settlement in an almost unknown and cold country. Th epersonal stories of the Bulgarians present their visions of the road, their views onNorway and the founding of home as a personal experience in the context of the complexmigratory situation there. The specifics of the Bulgarian settlement in Norway predetermine the understanding of home and road. The successful and relatively fast realization, the high standard of life, the social model and the opportunity for quicklybringing together the separated families transform the migration to the north from amovement into a fixed way of life. For the Bulgarians, the new home in Norway has different aspects – it is the heart of the family, of calmness, cosiness and security. For the emigrants, the road to the north is both a road and a way back to the “native” andthe “Bulgarian” which could be seen in the founding of a “Bulgarian home” by different emigrant institutions and organizations. The new transnational and transcultural home of the Bulgarians in Norway becomes their comfort zone.

Author(s): Vera Boneva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2022

The article presents archival materials and other historical sources which keep primary information about the death and funeral of the famous Bulgarian rebel leader Hadzhi Dimitar Asenov (1840 – 1868) who originates from the town of Sliven. The widely accepted thesis that Hadzhi Dimitar was deadly shot during the Buzludzha battle (18th July 1868) and was buried at the place of the battle has been proven once again by bringing new motives and logical arguments. The funeral of the famous revolutionary on the Buzludzha peak (named in 1942 Hadzhi Dimitar peak) has been confirmed with memorial and archaeological pieces of evidence. Both re-burials of the fallen heroes (1898 and 1961) provide additional data in that direction. Despite scientific argumentation of the said thesis, the article also interprets some uncertain and contradictory evidence about the eventual death of Hadzhi Dimitar on the Kadrafil peak, located in the Sredna gora mountain – 50 km away from Bualudzha peak in the Stara planina mountain. Neither factual nor logical arguments of this legend withstand scientific criticism. Nevertheless, they are persistently popularized by local patriots, originating mainly from the village Svezhen (formerly called Ajar – until 1934). Furthermore, supporters of the so called Adjar's legend are trying to give national status of their unscientific claims about the death and burial of the famous revolutionary leader Hadzhi Dimitar Asenov. Their unjustified actions are conceptualized in the scientific context of the cultural memory theory. The dispute between the scientific version and the Adjar's legend is explained by the different approaches of historical science and cultural memory toward a single fact from the past – the last moments of a national hero's life. The professional historiography works with objective facts, scientific methods and logical arguments. Cultural memory attracts convenient hypotheses, mythological plots and unprovable local memories.

Author(s): Dmitry Igorevich Polyvyannyy / Language(s): Russian Issue: 3/2023

After 1517 the Holy Places of Jerusalem, Palestine and Sinai as well as the three ancient Eastern Patriarchates of Alexandria, Antiochia and Jerusalem were included into the imperial domain of the Sublime Porte thus connecting its Orthodox subjects in Rumelia, Greek islands, Asia Minor and the Danubian Principalities to the most worshipped common Christian shrines. In the following two centuries the number of the pilgrims to the Holy Land from the Ottoman Balkan provinces was permanently increasing. The South Slav pilgrims’ glosses and travel notes reveal the shaping of the common orthodox space, the parts of which were the visitors’ living places, sacral centers, monasteries and travel communications. The pilgrimage to Jerusalem and the return back lead them across administrative, canonical, ethnic and territorial metes and bounds creating in their minds the image of the Ottoman Empire as mighty world power with multinational and multi-confessional population thus laying foundations for the development of protonational identities.

Author(s): Konstantin Rangochev / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 22/2023

The debate for the birthplace of St. Paisius of Hilendar emerged rather late – practically after the Balkan Wars and the First World War. Until then, everyone was unanimous that the saint originated from the town of Samokov / the village of Dospei, Samokov region. As of today, three hypotheses for the birthplace of St. Paisius of Hilendar are defined: 1. Kralevdol hypothesis (the village of Kralev dol, District of Pernik), 2. Bansko hypothesis (the vilage of Bansko, District of Blagoevgrad), and 3. Samokov hypothesis (the town of Samokov / the village of Dospei). The problem regarding the birthplace of St. Paisius of Hilendar can be solved through the use of three types of evidence: • Folklore stories, toponyms, etc. • Documental (written) evidence – parish registers, attributions, etc. • Language evidences – derived from the draft of the “Slavo-Bulgar History” (Istoriya Slavyanobolgarskaya), preserved in the “St. George Zograf” Zograf Monastery in Mount Athos. All three types of evidence unequivocally display that the birthplace of St. Paisius of Hilendar is the town of Samokov / the village of Dospei.

Author(s): Margaret Dimitrova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 22/2023

This manuscript is called Chehlarov’s copy because it is known that Chehlarov was one of his possessors. Also it is known as the Fourth Tarnovo Copy of “Istorija slavjanobolgarskaja“ because it was found in Veliko Tarnovo. This paper contributes to its codicological (it reconstructs the correct order of folios) and language (East Bulgarian dialectal features) characteristics and also argues that it belongs to the family of Father Pantelejmon’s redaction but not to its branch of which Vlad Gladichov’s copy was a protograph. Therefore, terminus ante quem non is 1809 when Father Pantelejmon produced his manuscript.

Author(s): Dessislava Tiholova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 23/2024

The text presents a possible anthropological perspective on the topic of memorial practices in Germany, linked to the problem of guilt and its overcoming through the dynamization of cultural memory. The thesis of guilt, being an element of the contemporary process of creating places of memory, is based on observations on memorial places for deserters. They may not be many in number (compared to monuments of other social or political victims in the history of Germany), but are becoming a catalyst of the dynamic process of building monuments called Denkmalarbeit. Indicative of the problem are the long, sometimes even paradoxical processes surrounding the decision-making for such monuments: their place, the artistic realization of every project, the accompanying public events, speeches and comments, the forms of implant. The mentioned factors, together with the conclusions of the observation, create a new sphere in the cultural memory of German society, related to changes in public attitude towards deserters and a search for new forms of memory in the process of acknowledging and overcoming guilt.
