Our investigative approach involves investigating the neologisms used in the news on Viva FM radio (a regional radio station in Romania) in the context of the current pandemic of Covid 19. The analysis of neologisms in the medical field gives us clues about the evolution of radio journalistic language. The recent radio language of the pandemic comes with new themes and new meanings created with extensions and deviations of meaning showing a real linguistic dynamic. Globalization as a common experience also applies to the coronavirus pandemic. Comorbidity, isolation, positivity / repositioning, relaxation (yet abiding by the rules), the proper prefixes and those with prefixoids or suffixoids, such as “coronavirus”, “coronasceptic”, “pandemic”, “thermometrization”, “thermoscanning”, “vaccinosceptic” and the current abbreviations COVID, DSP, ATI are just a few terms widely used by journalists from the regional radio station. Without inducing the need for being translated, the term Covid-19 has reached in a record time all corners of the world, as an unmistakable mark, as have all the other terms specific to the “pandemic language” come to be part of the current language of a large number of users.

Media discourse occupies an important place in the circulation of knowledge, and this is is even more obvious in the case of the pandemic discourse, endowed with a high degree of educational value or “didacticity”. This didactic dimension is visible through the use of specific linguistic procedures and constitutes a proof of the immense educational potential of the media, which could become an important supplier and mediator of different types of scientific knowledge.

If according to Stendhal the novel was a mirror carried along a road, rap may be its modern equivalent. This article proposes to take a look at this musical genre and at the discourse that it carries in order to gauge the emergence as well as the sustainability of a brand new linguistic imaginary related to the pandemic in the city of Marseille. To do so, we will take an interest in one of its most popular and prolific rap artists of the moment, Jul. Marseille indeed relies on a strong sense of regional identity as well as on a particular history when it comes to how the pandemic has been dealt with and discussed in the public sphere. What is at stake here is therefore to note and study segments built around this new linguistic imaginary provided by the virus in order to get an understanding of how this new lexicon has become the discursive norm, but also to get a sense of how these linguistic patterns are deliberately used in order to fit to rap’s traditions, oscillating between stylistic concerns and identity-related statements.

This article presents a series of lexical forms useful for the expression of medical knowledge in Wolof. We shall analyse the medical terms in terms of derivation, composition, borrowing and neologisms. We will describe these medical terms in terms of both morphosyntaxic and semantic traits. This lexicological, morphosyntaxic and semantic reflection helps to show the linguistic scope of medical terms designed to facilitate language interactions between patients and staff and their importance in the dynamics of the Wolof language.

This article aims to show that the representation of French as a Foreign Language (FLE) teachers in the Chinese context is changing and exhibiting diversity when it comes to approaching the issue of “native/ non-native” teacher. Through interviews with seventeen FLE teachers of five educational authorities, seven French and ten Chinese, our objective is to reconstruct the crossed judgments concerning the differentiated (or not) skills of two parties existing in their speeches, thus to understand what they think about the roles of FLE teachers in real teaching scenes. This analysis turns to a discussion of the professionalism of language teaching as well as the socio-cultural factor to be taken into account in the Chinese context.

The language considered as a system of signs constitutes the domain of definition of linguistics. We often hear of young people that they speak a loose, fanciful language, that they distort and undermine the French language. Verlan, to speak slang as a variant of French used by Ivorian youth, obsessed with novelties and in search of an identity mark, seems to be the object of growing interest among linguists. It is almost unimaginable that a playful process of a keyed language consisting, at first sight, in a simple inversion of the syllables, could become a phenomenon beyond simple child’s play. The cryptic function, the symbolic power and the rhetorical figures of this talk reflect the remodeling and destructuring that young people impose on the language of the colonizer who has long imposed his diktat on them.

This paper focuses on the translation into Romanian of a series of clichés which are frequently used in French when describing a crisis situation. After pinpointing the nature of what assigns to a word or phrase the designation of „cliché”, we shall examine the possible ways of rendering it in Romanian, taking into account the procedures of translation posited by J. P. Vinay and J. Darbelnet in 1958. Resorting either to equivalence or to direct transfer, the translation of clichés requires contextual analysis, especially in those cases where a clichéd phrase in a language has a functioning word-for-word correspondent in another one but where it is actually not perceived as a cliché yet.

Our interest in investigating the language norm in the radio discourse has been raised by the evolution of radio discourse. Another focus point within our research is represented by the concept of norm and more exactly the cluster of norms in close relation with the actual use of language. We aim at evaluating the language peculiarities specific to the journalists from the Radio România Actualităţi station. We analyse both the way in which they convey information, and the way they implicitely communicate information about themselves by revealing their cultural and educational background.

World literature has accompanied, as a faithful witness, the human being’s evolution and dilemmas, reflecting them metaphorically most often. The recurring topics of life and death in world literature have been often replaced with complementary symbols or symbolic actions, such as those pertaining to Eros or to Thanatos. On the other hand, disease, ever since the ancient times of Ghilgameş (who treats death as a sort of disease), has made the object of some of the most well-known and widely appreciated literary masterpieces. Dostoievski makes no exception, his work being pervaded by the values of an analytically assumed and profound Christianity, by the deep understanding of the used concepts. Being close to death, following the false and tormenting death sentence, captive in the middle of people belonging to morbid typologies, the Russian writer has succeeded in seeing through a „quijotesque” prism, a christian one, as real as possible, the duality of good and evil. Devoted to the world and to the spiritual destiny of the people where he was born, Dostoievski never abandoned the fight against the worst evil, that is hatred.

This paper focuses on Jivago’s Christian figure and Pasternak’s non-modern art. Pasternak lives both the experience of philosophical and artistic modernity and the events of political and ideological modernity (the Bolshevik Revolution, the Civil War, Communism) as a conscious exile, where faith and literature, intertwined, give him the saving freedom and energy to go to his inner homeland. The exit from aesthetic modernity and the frontal alienation of any touch with Socialist realism leads him to a cultural exile, accentuated by the very rare aesthetic exile, where very few great living artists of the twentieth century live, as Boris Pasternak is not an ordinary antimodern, in the sense that his work, especially his only novel, Doctor Jivago, does not deny modernity, but affirms a different vision of man and the world, a Christic one.

Remarkably, in the era of disruptive innovation, rapid technological change, ubiquitous connectivity, machine learning, and algorithmic governance, cognitive translation is undergoing a period of innovative drastic transformation. A ‘now generation’ of digital natives appears to dominate every walk of human life. The impact of digital technology and the World Wide Web on translation is incessant, all-encompassing and insightful. Furthermore, the emergence of cognitive translation studies has stipulated an interdisciplinary approach to delve into the cognitive and behavioral aspects of a broad array of cross-language activities including all kinds of translation and interpreting, namely, such issues as bilingualism and second language acquisition represent in many ways an even tighter focus on the uniquely human elements of linguistic structure and function, as theories build on and remain linked to current and developing knowledge of human cognitive processes.

Speaking in vernacular dialects does not impede social integration. Overcoming the resulting status as a member of the community, though, implies striving for personal development through education and self-education which rely, in terms of language registers, on the formal language. Paraphrasing I. Oprea and R. Nagy, the motivation of the individual to progress can also arise when the efforts of evolution in society are canceled out by ignorance. Beyond the functional variety of any language and the conclusions of researchers in the field, illustrated in our approach, we can state that the Romanian formal language and the Romanian vernacular are in a relationship of contiguity.

The aim of this paper is to reflect on the crossed approaches that we can adopt, on the one hand, for the development and consolidation of students’ French language skills and, on the other hand, for teaching nonlinguistic subjects in French within the Filières francophones. The work sheds light on the new role of the language teacher who has in his approach to overcome a certain number of linguistic and sociolinguistic difficulties faced by learners and to help them succeed in the transition to the standard of teaching à la française, thus ensuring that they take ownership of this new standard. This supposes regular informational contact between French teachers and specialty discipline teachers for the implementation of a device to facilitate the understanding of university courses.

This article aims to pinpoint and describe a series of important principles and models for scientific research. The principles governing the scientific research represent the ‘standards’ or ‘laws’ the research activity must abide by. The correct application of the principles is the guarantee of success in the scientific research approach, recommending the professionalism of the person carrying out the research. A principle also represents a starting point for the researcher who must show sincerity and honesty in his approach. Lack of respect for these principles can lead to false information, to results that do not reflect that what is submitted to analysis, and can also call into question the seriousness and the integrity of the researcher.

The complexity of the literary genome of Joyce’s work has constantly demanded the attention of literary critics, involved in actions to identify the artistic resources that formed the basis of the creation of one of the most powerful voices of twentieth-century literature.
