Summary/Abstract: Speaking in vernacular dialects does not impede social integration. Overcoming the resulting status as a member of the community, though, implies striving for personal development through education and self-education which rely, in terms of language registers, on the formal language. Paraphrasing I. Oprea and R. Nagy, the motivation of the individual to progress can also arise when the efforts of evolution in society are canceled out by ignorance. Beyond the functional variety of any language and the conclusions of researchers in the field, illustrated in our approach, we can state that the Romanian formal language and the Romanian vernacular are in a relationship of contiguity.
