Poverty Factor in Lithuanian Policy

Poverty Factor in Lithuanian Policy

Skurdo veiksnys Lietuvos politikoje

Author(s): Sonata Mačiulskytė / Language(s): Lithuanian / Issue: 1 (29)/2003

Keywords: Lithuanian post-soviet change; economic reforms in Lithuania; Economic and political restructurization in Lithuania; Lithuanian macroreforms; poverty question as a form of social interaction; poverty as political object; poverty as political actor

One of the main qualitative aspects of Lithuanian post-soviet change is a political priority being laid upon the economic reforms. Economic and political restructurization if followed by significant change of social structure. It would be correctly acceptable to characterize ongoing social changes as a visible socioeconomic differentiation, even polarization. Significant feature of Lithuanian macroreforms is poverty arise - a contemporary socio-economic and socio-political phenomenon in Lithuania. Social, economic status are important reasons of human behavior, keeping up a permanent and stable influence on persons political selfdetermination, even if it is conditioned by extra-dynamic environmental change. Some tendentious socio-political processes take place in Lithuania: on the one way, electoral activity in Lithuania is one of the lowest in Europe, in spite of a low confidence in Government. On the other way, alternative forms of political behavior become more and more popular in the state. Its popularity grows adequately the growth of "exaggerated expectations" mass in the society. The formation of protest policy can be named as a sign of political dangerousness of (qualitatively and quantitatively) growing poverty mass in Lithuania. That is the reason why it becomes more and more important to appraise poverty question as a form of social interaction. This kind of survey, undoubtedly, broadens the field of political research in Lithuania. The main idea of the article - poverty is not only a political object; also it is an active political actor. This presumption is significant when it is made a distinction between traditional and alternative forms of political participation. There are sought to find the connections between poverty and political behavior, and how it makes impact on Lithuania's political development of last decade.

PHILOSOPHICAL AND POLITICAL WRITINGS OF HASSAN KAFI PRUSCAK

Author(s): Amir Ljubović / Language(s): English / Issue: 01-02/1995

Each cultural inheritance, by its definition, always belongs to some community. Beside that, the most valuable works, the works which are representative of such an inheritance, if they contain some universal values, or values by themselves, belong to the common property of mankind. These works always grow out of the creative process of exceptional personalities from individual nations, those personalities who create their works just by their individual capacities.

THE PROBLEM OF MAN'S FREEDOM

Author(s): Ivo Komšić / Language(s): English / Issue: 01-02/1995

What is man's freedom? It is the freedom from the rule of evil principle. This liberation is not an absolute state, but rather a constant struggle to maintain it. This struggle is man's obligation. The state of evil is a dangerous state out of which man does not exit, and is therefore to be blamed for.

Hassan Kafi Pruscak is one of the most distinguished Bosnian writers and scholars. His papers have made Bosnia culturally richer and the Bosnian people better known. A few years ago in Medinah and Riyadh two Masters theses were written on Pruscak's work. This interest in Pruscak will grow in the future, while studies of his philosophical thought will become more precise and the role he had in his time better appreciated.

GLAUBENSPLURALISMUS UND TOLERANZ

Author(s): Ivan Cvitković / Language(s): German / Issue: 01-02/1995

The Surprise of the Event

LA SURPRISE DE L'EVENEMENT

Author(s): Jean-Luc Nancy / Language(s): French / Issue: 01-02/1995

ROOTS OF DESTRUCTION AND THE POSSIBILITY OF TOLERANCE

Author(s): Arif Tanović / Language(s): English / Issue: 01-02/1995

At the very beginning of this war I wrote an essay, "Civilization against Barbarism". My first thought became the epigraph: Credo quia absurdum, or Certum est, quia impossible est). While St. Augustine and Tertulian through these saws thought in a highly speculative way of metaphysical meanings of transcendence and sense, I have been forced to consider the immediate worldly question of existence, of meaning and absurdity. Not as some contemplation, as nice serene meditation, but as a very concrete question of human survival, where peaceful citizens of a thousand-year-old civilization are faced with attacks of a darkened mind belonging to resuscitated barbarians. What a free spirit has left is to think and to fight: Certa viriliter, sustine patienter. For to abstain from opposing evil is the same thing as to accept barbarism.

ON LOGIC, DESERT AND THE SACRED TEXT

ÜBER LOGIK, WÜSTE UND DEN HEILIGEN TEXT

Author(s): Enes Karić / Language(s): German / Issue: 01-02/1995

VILLE DECHET. Introduction à la description de la nécropole

Author(s): Sadudin Musabegović / Language(s): French / Issue: 01-02/1995

HASSAN KAFI PRUSCAK - HIS LIFE AND WORK

Author(s): Fehim Nametak / Language(s): English / Issue: 01-02/1995

Thanks to his autobiography, Pruscak's life work is better known than that of all his contemporaries, who produced their works in the oriental languages - Arabic, Turkish and Persian. However, it is an autobiography that speaks only of his work, education and profession. Informatio.n about his private life, his family or possible descendants is rather poor. Biographers have merely been able to catalogue new manuscripts of his well known works.

Author(s): Gricelda Sarmiento / Language(s): French / Issue: 01-02/1995
