The article presents an approach to territorial marketing in Poland on the basis of the city of Wrocław. The analysis includes the actions that are undertaken in order to attract people and investors to the examined local government unit. The article attempts to evaluate the adopted pro-marketing orientation of Wrocław authorities. The aim of the article is to assess the usefulness of the undertaken marketing actions for the creation of a positive image of the city and for increasing the chance for a media and spatial economy success.

The goal of the research was the empirical examination of regularities occurring in the field of infrastructure investments supporting environmental protection in rural areas as well as the diagnosis of the level of development reached by the study area using the method of principal components. In this research all calculations were performed using Excel and Statistica. As a result of conducted analyzes, in the first step, input variables were categorized into coherent groups, which, in each year selected for the study, every two most important factors were chosen, and then on the basis of indicated factors voivodeships with similar patterns of investment in infrastructure supporting environmental protection in rural areas were determined.

The contents of this article deals with the procedure of research that refers to the identification and evaluation of usable values of the city – the case study of Bolesławiec. The author separated the following usable values for each city: economic, logistic, tourist, social, housing, institutional as well as spatial and ecological. The article presents the results of questionnaire research, that refers to the evaluation of above mentioned usable values, carried out in Bolesławiec town. The base of competitiveness for usable values of the city was pointed out and priority actions were defined. The author also approached the nation of a logic matrix of the project which serves as a tool to monitoring the state of usable values of the city and indicated competitive products of the city.

The processes of globalization are changing the perception of spatial dimension development in economy, social sphere and ecosystem. Such a point of view has become the source of formulation of a new economic, social and spatial category, which is glocalisation. The hereby paper discusses problems referring to the selected aspects of emotions in the context of a city brand. The introduction offers a city brand definition and underlines the increasing importance of related problems referring to the intensifying competition between particular territorial units. Next selected components influencing a city brand are presented with particular focus on the image of town products and services, local identity and communication between town authorities and local community, as well as the events held by the town which reflect emotional perception of its space. The characteristics of four emotional city brand dimensions, i.e. sociological, psychological, ideological and cultural constitute the core part of the study.

The cooperation represents a new and still not fully understood economic phenomenon constituting an alternative for the separately analyzed mechanisms of competition and cooperation. The objective of the paper is to provide characteristics of cooperative relations diversification depending on the sector and local oriented cooperative potential. The analysis was based on the method suggested by J. Cygler. The conducted research confirms that spa sector is characterized by average cooperative potential, while the studied spas feature low potential. Only the cooperative relations between Kłodzko Zdrój and Polanica Zdrój indicate stable cooperative cooperation. It may be assumed that in the years to come spas will strengthen their cooperative relations since they generate significant advantages for the parties involved.

The paper is about direct sales conducted by Polish farmers. Investigations were made in 2009 and were based on desk and field research. This article shows relationship between direct sales and local development, actual legislation in the area of direct food sale in Poland and problems with law interpretation – in the aspects of theory of marketing and in real business as well. The authors also showed the results of investigations based on interviews with experts – employees working in marketing departments in ODR (special Polish state service for agribusiness advising). These people were experts in problems connected with direct food sale and other agricultural products in Poland.

In today’s world sport is not only a powerful “industry”, but also a leading cultural and social activity. Cities increasingly try to use their infrastructure and a variety of sports to change or “renew” their image, promotion, and above all to activate their local economy. The author proposes a thesis that sport (sports infrastructure and prestigious sporting events) have a significant impact on the competitive advantage of a city. The paper presents the role of the municipal stadium in Kołobrzeg in building a competitive advantage of the city. The article presents the results of a public opinion survey, based on the concept of deliberative poll, and on the management model of the new facility after the end of the European Football Championship UEFA-EURO 2012.

Strong and Weak Positions of Bulgaria on the Threshold of the European Union

The need of accelerated economic development of Bulgaria during the next years and decades has been justified. The normal and accelerated developments have been characterised, as well as their driving forces. 15 strong starting positions immediately before joining the EU have been listed. About 40 weak starting positions have been pointed out too. A short economic characteristic of the strong and weak points has been made. Ideas for future economic policy concerning most of the weak points have been proposed. It has been proven that the weaknesses of the economy have been accumulated for years and Bulgaria is not ready to accede to the Union in equal terms. Nevertheless, only as a EU member Bulgaria will have more favourable conditions for accelerated development. The country has no alternative to the EU membership and accelerated development. The combination of the two processes corresponds best to the national interests of Bulgaria.
