TEACHING TRANSLATION: USEFUL OR USELESS FOR THE TECHNICAL STUDENT?

Author(s): Monica Negoescu / Language(s): English / Issue: 3/2010

Keywords: translation; teaching; foreign language; evaluation

In times of such great economic, political and social changes, translation has an important role in the language development of the Technical University student. For the student, translation represents one of the best ways to practice and improve the foreign language, and for the teacher, it is a means of evaluating the students’ knowledge. How the student deals with it represents the subject of the present paper.

How Ethnic Civil War Transforms into Religious Civil War: Evidence from Chechnya

How Ethnic Civil War Transforms into Religious Civil War: Evidence from Chechnya

Author(s): Mochammad Faisal Karim / Language(s): English / Issue: 01/2013

Keywords: Religion; Islam; transnational religious actors; Chechen Civil War

Many studies have proved that civil war in which religion is central issue is bloodier and longer than civil war in which religion is peripheral issue. Yet, few studies try to analyze how religion can transform Ethnic Civil War with religious divides into Religious Civil War, especially when the rebels identify themselves as Muslims. Currently, there are two conventional arguments on factors transforming ethnic civil war into religious civil war: the structural and the mobilization explanation. Using the Chechen war as a case study, this paper finds that the structural explanation failed to explain how ethnic civil war where religion is peripheral issue transforms into religious civil war where religion is central issue. While the mobilization explanation can only partially explain the Chechen civil wars it cannot answer the question how the ethnic civil war turns to religious civil war. The evidence clearly suggests that the involvement of transnational religious actors in the form of foreign fighters is the main factor that transforms ethnic civil war with religious divides into religious civil war.

Forests Country – Maramureş, Elements of Tradition (I)

Forests Country – Maramureş, Elements of Tradition (I)

Ţara Codrului - Maramureş, elemente de tradiţie (I)

Author(s): Bogdan Codre / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: 1/2014

In the Codrului area (located at the border of Maramures, Salaj and Satu Mare counties), the carol is a well represented folclorik genre, found in a wide variety. The author is currently living there with his family and he has been enjoying the yearly celebrations together with the local people. The carols are sung in the church during the celebration of Christmas. In fact, the caroling starts from the beginning of the Christmas Lent, it is more frequent during the month of December (after the celebration of Saint Nicholas) and this habit would know its peak season between Christmas and the Saint Basil celebration, continuing until Saint John’s celebration, on the 7th of January. Some details about the caroling customs are being described. The well kept traditional carols or the more recent carols may have a relegious or lay subject. Three examples of this musical genre have been mentioned: ‘’O, ce veste minunata’’, ‘’Coborat-o, coborat-o’’ and ‘’De greu gazda-ai adurnitu’’. An article published by a local teacher is being mentioned (George Popovici, in 1930), in which carols and their preservation are being discussed. Through the caroling rehearsals which are being organized during Christmas Lent, vocal skills and musical sensibility are being highly developed. All these are being done mostly within family.

Eugene Ionesco: The Anti-Utopian Universe of the Theatre of the Absurd

Eugène Ionesco : L’univers anti-utopique du théâtre de l’absurde

Author(s): Monica Danci (Toma) / Language(s): French / Issue: 25/2013

Keywords: Anti-utopia; Theatre of the absurd; Eugene Ionesco; Action; Character; Object; Rhythm; Time.

In this study, I analyze Eugene Ionesco’s theater of the absurd as an anti-utopian world. For this purpose, I bring peculiarities of utopian thought to bear on a comparison with the features of this anti-theater. The absurd as anti-utopia reveals itself in the destruction of categories such as language, action, character, object, space, time. I also take into consideration factors such as lighting or rhythm of the play. In my opinion, the absurd universe is the perfect illustration of scenarios of the worst possible worlds.

SEMI-AUTOMATED SYNTAGMS WITH PREPOSITION BASED CORRESPONDENCES –the case of ”à”

CORESPONDENŢE PREPOZIŢIONALE ÎN SINTAGMELE SEMI-AUTOMATIZATE - marcatorul prepoziţional „à”

Author(s): Monica Mariana Ioani / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: 1/2014

Perspective pluridisciplinare (Educational Sources and Values. Multi-disciplinary Perspectives) ("Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University Publishing House, Iași, 2021) consists of some of the works presented during the Valorile educației – educația valorilor din Antichitate până azi. Abordări teoretice, soluții practice (Educational Values – Education of Values from Ancient Times to Nowadays. Theoretical Approaches, Practical Solutions) National Symposium (5th edition, Iași, 2018, 6th edition, Iași, 2020) by researchers, academic professors and PhD candidates trained in different fields (linguistics, theory, history, literary critics, compared literature, philosophy, theology, visual arts, educational sciences). Grouped in three distinct sections (Antiqua, mediaevalia et humanistica; Moderna et contemporanea; Didactica), the studies highlight different perspectives on new research fields. Unlike the Symposium’s previous volumes, the coordinators dedicated a distinct section to the approach of educational processes from an axiological perspective and to the discussion of values as didactic landmarks (conceptual challenges, procedural difficulties and methodological solutions)

"DR. LUCA" ADVENTIST SCHOOL OF NURSING, BRĂILA. SHORT HISTORY

Author(s): Panaite Ilie / Language(s): English / Issue: 3/2023

Keywords: school; education; adventist; doctor; nurse;

The article is among the historical articles presenting the "Dr. Luca" from Brăila. The documents existing in the school's archive from its establishment until now were consulted and based on them a chronology of the stages of formation and development of this school was made. Also, an important part of this article was made based on the interview and discussions held with one of the founders of this school, Dr. Ene Paulini, the one who proposed the establishment of this school, was its director and teacher and who had the greatest contribution to the development of the school since 1991 when it came into existence. One can see the important progress in terms of the development of the school, the numerous demands it was subjected to in the accreditation process and the sustained efforts for a number of more than 1300 young people to be declared its graduates. The international character of the school can also be seen through the graduates who come from several countries such as the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, Spain and Italy. The purpose of the article is to make this school known but also to present the data and aspects less known to the public.
