Keywords: gender; heritage series; literature series; Clemence Yucel; Farangis Ghaderi; kurdish; kurdish literature; kurdish poetry; women;

Against the backdrop of war and violence, social-political as well as lingual repressions, and the challenges presented by a patriarchal society, Kurdish poetesses have been creating meaningful work throughout the centuries. This collection of translated poems brings to light some of these underrepresented female writers, whose work has been essential to the development of Kurdish poetry. Representing various Kurdish regions and dialects, this volume of selected poems touches upon themes such as sexuality, violence, gender domination, intimacy, fantasy, and romantic love. While this collection offers illuminating insights into the work of Kurdish poetesses, it is the hope of its creators, the Exeter Kurdish Translation Initiative, that it inspires further translations and publication of Kurdish literature.

Freelonia’nın O’Halleri – BirGün Londra Yazıları

Author(s): Ibrahim Sirkeci / Language(s): Turkish

Keywords: Freelonia; Turkey; politics in Turkey; elections; İbrahim Sirkeci; Birgun essays;

Leaving One’s Comfort Zone. The Story of a Move to Italy

“Any settlers in the family?” “You don’t look Turkish at all, are you an émigré?” “Where are you originally from?” From an early age, I started hearing these questions. Either in school, during a cab ride, in the office or in my new social circles. I face these questions right after we start chatting… and this happens often. I always expect it. “Gökhan, where are you from?” I evolved: my height, my features, my voice, my gestures, the way I think, and many more but the answer to this question has never changed: “My ancestors used to live in Greece. They were there for a few generations. With the convention concerning population exchange between Turkey and Greece, my ancestors moved here permanently.” What I kept hearing on the grapevine eventually became a solid truth. I came to grasp the fact that my ancestors lived in Drama, Ptolemaida and Eleftheroupoli in Greece. All this longing to flee from my homeland and desire to get to know other places would clearly relate to a genetic interpretation. However, I still couldn’t say it all fit.

Women of Kurdistan. A Historical and Bibliographic Study

Author(s): Shahrzad Mojab,Amir Hassanpour / Language(s): English

Keywords: Gender; literature series; society and politics; Amir Hassanpour; bibliography; Kurdish; Kurdish literature; Kurdish women; Shahrzad Mojab; women;

Women of Kurdistan: A Historical and Bibliographic Study documents a century long history of Kurdish women’s struggles against oppressive gender relations and state violence. It speaks to bibliographic silences on Kurdish women; silences that are systemic and structured, with many factors contributing to their (re)production. The book records extensive literature on violence perpetrated by the family, community, and the state as well as presenting the reader with a vibrant archive of resistance and struggle of Kurdish women. The analysis avoids the fashionable state-centered scholarship, which purifies processes of nation-building, state-building, and disguises their violence. The image depicted of the women of Kurdistan in this bibliography is shaped also by the languages we have chosen: English, French, and German. It is a record of material in languages that are not spoken by the majority of the Kurds. It will, therefore, be different from a bibliography of works in the Kurdish language, which have a majority of Kurdish authors, with more entries on topics such as poetry, fiction, education, and arts.

First-Generation Pakistani Migrants in the UK

Author(s): Zeibeda Sattar / Language(s): English

Keywords: Migration Series; First generation; migrants; integration; migration; Newcastle Upon Tyne; Pakistani migrants; UK;

This book reports how modern life is constantly being affected by increasing forms of mobility. These mobilities allow for people to carry out activities that form and maintain relationships and networks on a social and obligatory basis. Complex mobility systems have enabled greater movement for many at local, national and international levels. Migration theories have been influenced by the mobilities paradigm and have led to the creation of new terminology such as ‘transnational migrants’. Both the needs of post-Second World War labour shortages and the political and economic climate of Pakistan (after partition in 1947) led to significant post-colonial Pakistani migration. This directed attention to life in the UK and resulted in and created new mobility dynamics. In terms of the research on which this book is based, face to face interviews took place, with a total of twenty eight interviewees that were carried out in two parts with the Pakistani diaspora living in the city of Newcastle upon Tyne who migrated up until the 1970’s.

Napoleon mocked the United Kingdom as ‘a nation of shopkeepers’. What of that nation today in which leading businesses sell physical goods without holding any inventory? Entrepreneurs are opening new enterprises without ‘bricks-and-mortar’ premises, while their back-office staff operate miles away. Innovation is the very root of growth, but it demands adaptive thinking – open minds – and plenty of ımagination.Whether you are planning a start-up or taking a mature business forward, crafting your business plan forces critical analysis. This, in turn, demands you justify your suppositions. It serves to eliminate the guesswork and to reduce risk. Above all, your business plan is not merely a tool for gaining investment but becomes, truly, your day-to-day survival handbook How to Write a Modern Business Plan is a guide to encourage fresh thinking. It prompts the reader to leverage both technology and new business practises to forge a successful commercial destiny.Shape your business for what you want it to become and be a business leader.

Introduction to Public Law and Human Rights - REVISION GUIDE

Introduction to Public Law and Human Rights - REVISION GUIDE

Author(s): Özgür Heval Çınar / Language(s): English

Keywords: public law; British law; human rights;

Public Law and Human Rights is a core module in the legal education of the United Kingdom (UK). Throughout the world it is known as common law. While common law consists of case-law and statutes, it has reached its present state by incorporating elements of international law, prerogative power and other legal and non-legal sources such as conventions and customs. This book closely examines the public law (constitution and administrative law) and human rights system of the UK (England and Wales in particular). The reason for the emergence of this book is that other publications do not explain such a complex issue in plain language, which makes it very difficult for those taking an interest, in particular A-level as well as LLB/LLM law students. This book does not repeat material that is available in many textbooks that are in print. Rather, it endeavours to present every topic in plain language and concludes every chapter with a fictitious, explanatory sample case. This book will also assist students to prepare for examinations. It comes with a test that summarizes all the subjects contained in the book, which is appropriate to the first stage SQE (Solicitors Qualifying Examination) examination.

Edebiyat, Kültür ve Sanatta Şiddet Temsilleri – Konferans Özetler Kitabı 2021

Author(s): / Language(s): Turkish,English

Keywords: Conference series; migration series; 2021; arts; conference; abstracts; culture; edebiyat; Konferans; kültür; literature; özetleri; representations; sanat; şiddet temsilleri; violence

Now we are nearly at the end of the first quarter of the twenty-first century, but violence still permeates in our lives at various levels. Various forms of violence occurring at levels of interpersonal, self-directed, collective, state, warfare, child and youth violence, intimate partner violence, environmental violence, and animal violence lay bare the complexity and pervasiveness of the phenomenon, yet it also brings along the necessity to discuss violence from multiple perspectives. Undoubtedly, violence that we have been facing and/or enduring in our lives are mostly man-made; however we need to raise awareness about the interrelatedness of various forms of violence directed not only to human beings but also to all nonhuman beings, including animate and inanimate entities, around us. In this way, we could rethink the definition of violence and enhance our understanding of the concept from wider perspectives. The abstrats collected in this book aim to discuss the concept of violence, its various forms and its representations in literature, culture and arts in order to raise awareness about the interrelatedness of various forms of violence directed not only to human beings but also to all nonhuman beings, including animate and inanimate entities, around us. In doing so, this book intends to contribute to the field of violence studies through the reconsideration of the meaning of violence from multiple perspectives.

New Normal Beyond The Pandemic: Pandemiyle Birlikte Yerelden Küresele Yabancılaşmayı Yeniden

Author(s): / Language(s): Turkish,English

Keywords: alienation; branding; education; global politics; Göran Therborn; Pandemic; research; social policy

The Covid-19 crisis, with all the horrors it has caused, has offered humanity an opportunity to reflect on itself and evaluate its point, even if it is delayed. In a very short time, we found ourselves worried about whether we could reach the objects we needed, whether we would lose our jobs or keep our freedom.Alienation is described as withdrawing or separation of a person or a person’s affections from an object or position of former attachment: alienation viewed as a sense of detachment from the values of one’s society, family, and even from one’s own feelings from the values of one’s society and family (S. L. Halleck). Different forms of alienation, such as cultural alienation, professional alienation, and religious alienation, are among the current issues. It is obvious that we need to define different forms of alienation along with the pandemic.I believe this book will not be the first nor the last research book published on the Covid-19 pandemic. Our aim is to leave a resource on the subject for the next generation of researchers. I would like to thank everyone who contributed to the book and hope it will be beneficial for the academic community.

Work and Migration: Case Studies from around the World

Author(s): / Language(s): English

Keywords: Austria; Brazil; Czech Republic; employment; female immigrants; Finland; Israel; Malaysia; migration; South Africa; Syrian refugees; Turkey; USA; work

The purpose of this edited book is to look at work and migration from multiple viewpoints and illuminate challenges faced by immigrants in the labour markets around the world. It takes an approach that listens to the voices of different migrant groups in different countries, based mostly on qualitative research. In addition to the main themes of discussion centred on labour markets, this book also makes reference to a wide range of discussion topics which often intersect with employment, labour markets and the work experience of migrants. These include themes such as migrant integration, remittance transfers, relations established and maintained with home countries, legal and institutional arrangements and policy making processes in the host countries, through the concepts of employment and work. The chapters highlight immigrants’ experiences both theoretically and empirically in the contributions around the world. “This book, which includes the experiences of specific groups like qualified, unskilled, and female migrants, makes reference to a wide range of discussion topics such as migrant integration, remittance transfers, relations established and maintained with home countries, legal and institutional arrangements and policy making processes in the host countries, through the concepts of employment and work.”

This is a collection of self-selected papers presented at The Migration Conference 2021 London. COVID-19 pandemic and ongoing restrictions and difficulties in international travel forced us to run the TMC online for a second time. It is a new and improving experience for most of us and there is strong hints that the conference will continue in hybrid form in the near future. As usual, we have invited participants to submit 2000 words papers for the proceedings book and this volume brings you these papers. Topics covered in the volume include gender, education, mass movements, refugees, religion, identity, migration policy, culture, diplomacy, remittances, climate, water, environment and pretty much everything about migration. Most of the papers are in English, but there are some in French, Spanish and Turkish too. This is a great book for those who want short accounts on all aspects of migration and refugees. TMC 2021 was hosted by Ming-Ai (London) Institute and The International British Business School, UK. Looking forward to continuing the debates on human mobility after the Pandemic at the next TMC in Morocco. | www.migrationconference.net | @migrationevent | fb.me/MigrationConference | Email: migrationscholar@gmail.com

İnsan-dan Başka Öyküler

Keywords: Posthumanism Series; Turkish Series; posthumanism; posthumanism; Rhizomatic Stage; Inverted Phase;

Hepimize afiyet olsun. – Şafak Horzum

Following this aim, the series will consist of monographs which cover the most important ages and experiences of English literary history, including Anglo-Saxon or Old English period, the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, the Restoration, neoclassicism, romanticism, Victorian Age, and the twentieth-century and contemporary literary backgrounds. The reader of these volumes will acquire the knowledge of literary terminology along with the theoretical and critical perspectives on certain texts and textual typology belonging to different periods, movements, trends, and genres. Apart from an important amount of reference to literary practice, some chapters on these periods include information on their philosophy, criticism, worldview, values, or episteme, in the Foucauldian sense, which means that even though the condition of the creative writing remains as the main concern, it is balanced by a focus on the condition of thought as well as theoretical and critical writing during a particular period.

Exodus of Men from Rural Uttar Pradesh

Author(s): Ruchi Singh / Language(s): English

Keywords: Migration Series; caste; domestic migration; India; internal migration; migration; rural Uttar Pradesh;

Rural to urban migration has become an integral character of developing economies. Sources of livelihoods and earnings in rural households are no longer confined to agriculture and are increasingly being diversified through migration of family one or more member within and beyond national boundaries. Migration is not a new phenomenon in India rather country has a long history of migration, which has played an important role in its social history, development and growth and culture. This study of the nature and determinants of male out-migration from rural UP focusing on six villages in Jaunpur District started with an observation that despite high male out-migration from rural UP, little attention has been given to understand the dynamics and process of migration in rural UP. Although migration has become the most opted strategy of diversification of livelihoods for rural households in UP, literature on it remains scarce. Literature on migration and its link with social groups are also scarce for UP. The work started with the proposition that migration is a risk and income diversification strategy (NELM approach) by rural households in UP. Along with linkages between migration and social group there is also a dearth of literature on migration as a risk diversification strategy in UP. Using primary data from the case study district of Jaunpur in eastern UP, India, firstly, a survey in the origin was carried out, and then migrants from the same households were tracked and interviewed at their respective destinations.

Reassessing Activism and Engagement Among Arab Youth

Author(s): / Language(s): English

Keywords: Peace; conflict and violence series; Algerian youth; Arab youth; conflict; Lebanese youth; political activism; politics; Syria; Syrian revolutionary youth; Tunisia;

This collective volume contributes to the conceptual understanding of Arab youth and their relationship to politics by making explicit how civic engagement in seemingly ‘apolitical’ fields can be conceived as a form of political activism. In speaking with Algerian, Tunisian, Lebanese, and Syrian youth civic activists who also participated in their country’s uprisings in 2011 or 2019, what is striking is their own insistence on the continuity between direct political protest and their civic engagement. Yet at the same time, these activists almost universally qualify their civic engagement as expressly ‘apolitical’. Such reflections beg two questions: how do youth understand the notion of ‘apolitical’ engagement, and on what premise do they see continuity between political protest and so-called ‘apolitical’ civic engagement? To answer these questions, the studies draw on the analytical tools of practice theory, reconceptualizing ‘youth’ as a generational practice of politics, meaning a ‘competent performance’ of shared knowledge and understandings of what constitutes politics and the political. In conceiving of youth in these terms, this unorthodox collection – representing multidisciplinary and multilinguistic research and blending theoretical and practitioner perspectives – is able to bring to the fore how youth comprehend and indeed dichotomize their collective action with ‘politics’.
