Mathematical disabilities of pupils with dyscalculia and their impact on solving learning tasks in physics and in mathematics: Summary of the results of the research investigation

Poruchy matematických schopností žáků s dyskalkulií a jejich vliv na řešení učebních úloh ve fyzice a v matematice: Shrnutí výsledků výzkumného šetření

Author(s): Lenka Pavlíčková / Language(s): Czech

Keywords: education; inclusive education; mathematics; disability; dyscalculia;

The monograph focuses on the mathematical disabilities of pupils with dyscalculia and their impact on the solving of learning tasks in physics was. Issues connected with dyscalculia are nowadays more and more frequently discussed. Difficulties arising from this disability influence not only the teaching of mathematics, but also the teaching of other subjects, mainly the sciences, where mathematics is used, which has impact especially on the success of the pupils in physics or chemistry. For these reasons, our publication focuses on solving learning tasks in mathematics and physics by pupils with dyscalculia. The research combines two research methodologies: case studies and didactic tests in mathematics and physics. Using the case studies, we examined pupils with mathematical disabilities who took the didactic test in physics or in mathematics. The research confirmed that pupils with dyscalculia have some perception, cognitive, and motor skills deficiency, while each pupil with dyscalculia who took part in the research had deficiency of a different kinds of skills, in different intensity, and in different combination. Most often, pupils with dyscalculia had disabilities in the partial area of cognitive skills related to pre-number and number notions. Through the didactic tests in physics and mathematics, we judged the level of ability to solve a learning task in physics and in mathematics for pupils with dyscalculia as well as for pupils without dyscalculia. Pupils without specific learning disability achieved the best results, while pupils with dyscalculia achieved the worst results. It is obvious from the results that not only pupils with dyscalculia, but also pupils with specific learning disabilities encounter significant problems in physics and in mathematics. Our research results show the need to change approaches to pupils with dyscalculia and with specific learning difficulties in the teaching of mathematics and physics and the need for changes in diagnostic and re-education care.

Olší, Nusperg, Růžodol : Names of some woody plants in the chosen Czech place names

Olší, Nusperg, Růžodol: Názvy dřevin v sídelních jménech českých zemí

Author(s): Kristýna Dufková / Language(s): Czech

Keywords: language; lexis; place names; trees; bushes; Czech language; landscape;

The aim of the publication is to list the chosen Czech, Moravian and Silesian place names which reflect the names of trees, bushes and shrubs. Trees and bushes, especially solitary ones, have drawn people's attention for centuries, for which reason they have served mainly for specifying location, direction or orientation in an area. The book contains the list of some places named after woody plants. In addition, the related municipal locations are recorded in the form of public online maps for the further use of readers. All gathered data must be treated with caution, because the proper names show a specific linguistic characteristic. The author explains that the purpose of the selected proper names is not to transmit an image of the past or contemporary landscape, but she stresses that the proper names themselves can help a great deal to reveal either a past or contemporary mutual relationship between the landscape and its inhabitants.

The Ways of the Authorial Fairy Tale after the Year 2000 in the Czech Republic and in Bulgaria

Cesty autorské pohádky po roce 2000 v České republice a v Bulharsku

Author(s): Martina Salhiová / Language(s): Czech

Keywords: children's literature; fiction; fairy tales; Czech Republic; Bulgaria; contemporary literature;

This monograph deals with a genre of children’s literature (literature for children and young adults) – the contemporary authorial fairy tales published between 2000 and 2020 in the Czech Republic and in Bulgaria. Using a comparative method and analysis of the works, the monograph follows the development shifts in the genre of authorial fairy tale in both national literatures. The work is selective, focused on the most distinctive types of authorial fairy tales. The division of the monograph into four parts (folklore-influenced fairy tales, diary and calendar fairy tales, lyricized and rhythmic fairy tales, humor and nonsense fairy tales) tends to be more orientational and approximate thanks to the mixing of different literary genres.

This book is the result of many years continual research of the archaeologists from Department of Archaeology and Museology FA MU in the area of the Northeast Suburb at Pohansko near Břeclav. Publication is aimed at archaeology professionals or students and describes in some detail the settlement structure of the suburb, the inventory of finds and the first interpretations of the archaeological sources gathered by excavations carried out in the 2008-2016 period. The monograph contains chapters in which immovable and movable archaeological sources are analysed and interpreted. For instance, the authors were successful of the functional interpretation of the individual excavated settlement sectors based on the using the spatial distribution of pottery, kitchen waste and daub. One of the important results of the method employed is the relatively unambiguous identification of early medieval above-ground buildings which could not have been revealed under different conditions. There is an additional detailed text catalogue of the investigated field relics accompanied by an extensive supplement with images and plans.

Dobrodružství historické interpretace

Keywords: history; politics; communism; methodology; historical texts; historical interpretation; historians; Czech Republic;

This collection of nineteen essays written by prominent historians demonstrates the diversity of academic approaches. Their work with historical sources, the foundation stone of research, is combined with ethical and aesthetic decision-making, which forms an indisputable part of their work. This is often surprising - both for the readers and themselves. It represents a great intellectual adventure. They cannot invent sources or set arbitrary rules, plots, and twists and turns, as a novelist might. However, they can write a scientific work which is the result of a creative approach.

Error Analysis in the Interlanguage of Czech and Slovak University Students of Spanish as a Second Language

Análisis de errores en la interlengua de aprendices de ELE universitarios checos y eslovacos

Author(s): Cristina Rodríguez García / Language(s): Spanish

Keywords: Spanish language; Czech students; Slovak students; higher education; error analysis; interlanguage;

The monograph studies the written interlanguage in Spanish of a group of Czech and Slovak university students, focusing on analysis of their errors. The main purpose of this study is to find a pattern in these errors and to understand their evolution from the beginning to the end of the three-year bachelor program of Spanish Language and Literature at Masaryk University in Brno (Czech Republic). For this objective we have analyzed a corpus of written texts compiled from 2014 to 2017 and we have classified all the lexical and morhosyntactical errors according to specific criteria, creating a “grammar of errors” on its own. The conclusions indicate that there are no significant differences between errors according to the linguistic groups. This is due to the fact that the majority of these errors show universal learning strategies that do not apply to just one linguistic group. However, the results also show a considerable influence of Czech and Slovak, especially in the lexical errors that occur due to interferences, faux amis and loans. Furthermore, Slovak students have a higher percentage of errors compared to Czech students at the end of their degree, mainly because the essays are longer. This is an outcome of Slovak students taking more risks when they write in Spanish, since they use more language and they choose more complex structures.

When they spread out their arms, they touch the darkness: Changes to priestly identity within Czech catholicism in the 19th and 20th centuries

Když rozpínají ruce, dotýkají se temnot: Proměny kněžské identity v prostředí českého katolicismu v 19. a 20. století

Author(s): Petr Husák / Language(s): Czech

Keywords: 19th century; 20th century; Catholicism; Czech Republic; priestly identity;

This book examines the changes to priestly identity within Czech Catholicism in the 19th and 20th centuries on the example of three Catholic priests (Emanuel Masák, Antonín Ludvík Stříž, Dominik Pecka). The changing identity of priests in the modern age is a relevant theme in historical science and at the same time is the turbulent story of a social profession which still undoubtedly enjoyed social prestige during the mid-19th century, but which with the passing of time became a target of criticism as a symbol of backwardness for some, while for others it was a symbol of eternal order, legitimate authority, authentic service, or even martyrdom. Even in the 20th century, priestly identity continued to contain its sacral, spiritual and even overtly mystical content. As is suggested by the title, it is this which the author focuses on very thoroughly.

The Izanagi Motive in Haruki Murakami's Novels

Izanagiovský motiv v románech Haruki Murakamiho

Author(s): Tomáš Jurkovič / Language(s): Czech

Keywords: Japanese literature; Haruki Murakami; novels;

Japanese writer Haruki Murakami is sometimes considered to be an entirely Western-literature-inspired author of “non-Japanese” texts. Such an assessment, however, needs to be rejected upon analysing Murakami’s fiction. The present study offers guidance into the colourful world of Murakami’s novels in chronological order. It presents them together in what we could call a meta-story, starting from the very beginning of Murakami’s writing and its sources of inspiration, and ending with Murakami’s first victory in dealing with his most important subject as an author – the dark sides of modern Japanese history.
