Summary/Abstract: The paper examines the question about supporting literacy in Bulgarian schools as new idea in education, as approach to quality teaching and learning of Bulgarian Language and Literature in primary and secondary schools. The Notion of literacy is interpreted following the key ideas of International studies and National Strategy for Support of literacy. The data from PISA’2009, PIRLS’2006 and National external Assessment in Bulgarian Language and Literature ‘2014 are used.
