Summary/Abstract: This publication considers some methodological problems in the research of self-preserving behaviour of women that are hit by unemployment during the transformation of our country to market economy. On the basis of statistical information it is accepted that unemployed women are subject to more risks that are connected to their specific role in the reproduction of the population. They form a complex risk factor — the uneven position of female labour force with respect to the male labour force on the labour market. The author considers three levels of actions of self-preserving behaviour; personal, family, and social. The theoretical basis of the research ought to be the conception for the psychic adaptation of the person under the conditions of an extreme situation. The hypothesis is made for differences between representative of the two sexes in their factor conditioning of the behaviour reactions to unemployment. A suggestion is made that the National office of employment should enrich its functions by opening cabinets for training systems for psychic stability of the unemployed.
