Methodological and methodical base of the study on the many children family in Bulgaria

Summary/Abstract: The present edition of "Naselenie" contains a series of articles on diverse aspects on the more than two children family. There ave part of a lager research called "The more than two Many Children Family — Demographic and Socio-economic Aspects", approved by the Scientific Council of the Institute of Demography on 22 December 1993. The theoretical and methodological issues of this research are presented here in order that the same explanations be avoided in the next articles. There are indicated the sources of information used in the study. A retrospective analysis is made on the basis of the four last population censuses in Bulgaria. More attention is paid to the occational sociological survey on this subject, conducted according to the indicated above research and its target. Its objectives, subject and instrumentarium are also presented. There are discussed the initial design of the survey and its issues. The size of the studied family fraction and its estimates are presented. New information, not existing in other sources is obtained. The state, problems and attitudes of a large part of the people regarding the high fertility family are studied. In this way, the basic trend and nature of the more than two children family as a phenomenon are revealed.
