Summary/Abstract: Favorable climate in the area of the present town of Razgrad were the reason for its inhabitation since the ancient times. Initially, during the 4th – 1th century BC there was a Thracian settlement in the nearby area of Hisarlaka; then a Roman military camp emerged. During the period 3rd – 6th century a late antique fortress was built here. It was an important urban and religious centre. A medieval fortress (7th – 14th c.) appeared in the same area. This showed settlement continuity. During the research of these settlements were found buildings, fortress walls and plenty of archeological material.
