Summary/Abstract: Literature for children and youth represents a large part of the book production of contemporary Ruthenian literature in Slovakia. Almost every Ruthenian writer is the author of at least one book dedicated to children‘s readers, which only confirms the great importance attached to future generations. Considering the fact that it is the literature of a minority nation living in the territory of the majority, it is understandable that it is specific in terms of the genres chosen, the topics covered and, ultimately, the approach to its readers. Ruthenian literature often deals with existential problems related to the question of nationality and identity. These themes also permeate the literature for children and young people. Younger or future generations are not only receivers of artistic text, but also addressees of messages, references, wishes and hopes contained in literary texts of the older generation. We want to create the characteristics of a child reader from the point of view of the authors writing this literature. In the article, we describe how the authors themselves see their potential reader, what approach they take to him, what competences and tasks they attribute to him.
