Summary/Abstract: It has been ten years since the adoption of The Montenegrin Alphabet (adopted in June 2009) and its proclamation as official and binding in Montenegro. The second amended edition of the spelling was printed already in the following year which is still in force today. Language policymakers, The Ministry of Education, and the Institute / Faculty of Montenegrin Language and Literature have not conducted any research or organized a discussion on the elaboration, acceptance, and implementation of the newly established norm, not to mention evaluation, since even the slightest criticism of it is seen as an attack on Montenegro, and those who criticize immediately become enemies of the state and traitors. Instead of reviewing, analyzing, and elaborating the newly introduced norm and its scope through discussions, interviews, research, round tables, and scientific gatherings, the abovementioned institutions continue to work on the process of codification as they started - behind the eyes of the public and the language professionals. The objective of the paper is to provide an analysis the current situation regarding the application of the newly adopted norm of iotation of the Montenegrin language in functional styles that require the use of standard varieties: in the education system, primarily in textbooks for primary and secondary school, then in public administration and print and electronic media
