Opposing to technological determinism, more socio-technical approaches have emerged in the second half of the 20 th century. One significant perspective is the social construction of technology (SCOT).However, besides its advantages, SCOT also has deficiencies. Many of them are discussed and answered in the literature but in this article two important aspects will be presented which have not been sufficiently elaborated in SCOT. First, light is shed on interpretative flexibility from a social cognitive approach. Here, technological frames are presented as support our understanding, but also other theories are suggested.Second, metaphors are presented as palpable images of interpretation. It is demonstrated how metaphors are used to understand complex phenomena like organisations or information systems. It is claimed that they are also suitable managerial tools to influence human actions through interpretations. Finally, three possible ways of further research are highlighted.

This paper examines Oliver Parker’s Othello (1995), an excellent American filmic production of Shakespeare’s play . The article also offers a reading to Oliver Parker’s film production of Othello (1995) where the story offers yet an opportunity to explore anti-Black sentiment in the American society with focus on black masculinity. Othello is therefore portrayed as “indolent, playful, sensuous, imitative, subservient, good natured, versatile, unsteady in their purpose… they may but be compared to children, grown up in the stature of adults while retaining a childlike mind”. (cf. Collins 1996: 89) This article is particularly interested in how Parker’s Othello fetishizes the black male body through exploiting the racialist dogmas about black Americans. Heavily punctuated with flashbacks, this production constructs a two-fold narrative; one approaching the plot from a traditional perspective whereas the other dealing with a rightly African American subjectivity. In conclusion, although Oliver Parker’s rendition of Shakespeare’s Othello preserves much of Shakespeare’s poetry, it is however a new mediatising form produced at an age “the white elite uses filmic representations of African Americans” as means to control and even contain race relations in the USA. (Hogdon qtd. in Aldama 2006: 198)

The paper studies three main sociology theories on the establishment and maintenance of interpersonal relationships: The Small World phenomenon, the theory on the strong and weak relationships and the one on hemophilia. These have been viewed in the context of contemporary social online networks with the main objective to be able to compare them with previous results in the area and their actualization. The object of research are the online social networks which in their appearance and form present a precedent in the field of Sociology and as such introduce some new nuances in the traditional concept of social networks and interpersonal relationships. The role of language in the maintenance of close and distant relationships on the Internet is also studied.

The present research explores the specific representation of God in the personal narratives of a group of Gypsies members of/ belonging to one of the Evangelical churches in Sofia. The study is abundant in quotations and examples supporting the conclusions and revealing the quantity and the variety of the data gathered on the subject. The analysis has shown that in their image of God we can observe dogmatic ideas intertwined with cultural influences of the Romani ethnos which sometimes results in contradictory interpretations. Another consequence is the imbalanced perception of the three hypostases of the Trinity. They seem to have different roles and purposes in the Gypsies’ lives, gaining different significance and thus forming a sort of hierarchy within the Trinity. The author has looked into the anthropological roots of the different phenomena and has offered some possible explanations of the various specific characteristics of the Gypsies’ perception and experience of God.

Migration is a multi-dimensional phenomenon, caused by various factors, including economic conditions, social and political conditions, conditions for exercising the right to work. In the context of legal regulation, following the Treaty of Rome of 1957, several consecutive amendments have expanded the EU's competence on migration issues. It is up to the Bulgarian state to protect its own interest and the interest of the European Union by preventing illegal access and entry across borders, which could be a threat to both national security and the security of the European Union. At the same time, it is important to guarantee the necessary living conditions and the integration of refugees and asylum seekers in Bulgaria It is necessary to find mechanisms to achieve a higher degree of convergence of the rules on the recognition and content of international protection based on higher standards.

This article describes the theoretical basis and research methodology of my ongoing PhD research project. The doctoral study focuses on extreme poverty and marginalization and aims to explore the relationship between people in poverty and social work in the daily work context. This structural relationship - a persistent model between social positions – is analysed through the categories of gift theory, emphasizing the money – mediated disengagement relationship typical of the individualisation process. Simmel’s approach to the study of poverty considers its symbolic-relational element as the determining dimension: the definition of ‘the poor’ depends on the social and cultural context and, consequently, it changes according to the policies and the social workers’ view. Based on the relative-relational approach, the analysis has two main objectives: describing the structural context (the city of Bari, Apulia, Italy), useful to understanding the policy governance view of the extreme poverty phenomena; and analyzing the representations of social workers and service users about their identity and relational dimensions.

Marital satisfaction is the key to maintaining strong marriages and to ensure individual and couple well-being, and one way to increase marital satisfaction is to educate people religiously. Religiosity is also an effective in preparing couples for marriage and a defensible clinicians intervention counselling couples having problems in their marriage aiming at preventing or alleviating marital distress and divorce because it can influence all types of marriage, no matter their religion, race, or generation, and three of the four stages of a family – early marriages, families with young children, and empty nests. However, couple therapists and clergy counselling couples preparing for marriage or having problems in their marriage should not take for granted that religious devotion can shield couples from declines in satisfaction or divorce: they should rather re-consider with the couple the role religiosity plays in their relationship, if any, and also the role of emotional intimacy.

Social Work literature is needed on the methods and roles of social work interventions for the psychosocial plight of widows. Currently, literature, methods and intervention frameworks to guide social work practitioners in stimulating relevant interventions are overtly and vehemently lacking. The paper thematically reviews relevant literature that breaks the status quo by discussing methods and roles that social workers can play in addressing the overlooked and marginalised psychosocial problems of widows with special focus on poorly resourced rural communities such as Binga District in Zimbabwe. The literature reviewed presents that social work practice with widows in rural and less resourced areas is possible but lack documented guidelines for social work practitioners to use like many other interventions with various clientele systems. Literature guiding social work interventions with widows is profoundly needed yet vehemently lacking. This paper’s position is that the roles and methods this paper presents provides insights that are useful and can be tested in rural and less resourced settings for the challenged widows.
