Praktyczny wymiar zagadnień związanych z oceną pewności źródeł oraz wiarygodności danych i informacji

Praktyczny wymiar zagadnień związanych z oceną pewności źródeł oraz wiarygodności danych i informacji

Author(s): Józef Kozłowski / Language(s): Polish Issue: 29/2023

The phases of preparation, analysis, integration, initial interpretation of data and intelligence are relatively widely described in the literature. Only the field of assessing the certainty of sources and the reliability of data and intelligence has not kept pace with the development of other elements in the domain of information operations. In view of the increasing intensity of activities carried out by potential adversaries, the methods, techniques and tools currently in use should be critically evaluated and their limitations identified, and attempts should be made to develop and implement new processes and procedures. Above all, the capacity to prepare and communicate increasingly accurate assessments of the certainty of sources and the reliability of data and information must be enhanced. Therefore, it is necessary to: quantify the accuracy of the information, prepare new procedures and software, study the degree of information redundancy, its completeness and level of diagnosticity. Acquisition and analytical apparatus staff must be aware of existing limitations and search for ways to solve problems. Such a search should not focus on one-size-fits-all methods, but on a pragmatic approach to each element.

Dlaczego przekazy polskojęzyczne nie są ciekawe dla młodych przedstawicieli mniejszości polskiej w Litwie?

Author(s): Agata Chutnik / Language(s): Polish Issue: 3/2023

In this article, after briefly characterising the Polish minority in Lithuania, I describe the media that are available in the Polish language in Lithuania and then show why Polish-language media channels are not an attractive source of reference for young representatives of the Polish minority. At the same time, I explain the origin of young people’s aversion to ethnic media and what causes their exodus towards Lithuanian- and Russian-language media. In particular, I present cultural and historical reasons for the attractiveness of Russian-language media, which many young representatives choose as an alternative to Polish ethnic media. Finally, I reflect on the consequences of moving away from Polish-language media coverage and the future of the minority itself without it.I use narrative interviews conducted by me with young representatives of the Polish minority in Lithuania who came to Poland for educational purposes, mainly to study. Additional material also includes interviews with journalists working in minority media. I also use desk research analysis and a literature review.

Scaling up Archival Text Analysis with the Blockmodeling of N-gram Networks: A Case Study of Bulgaria’s Representation in the “Osservatore Romanoˮ (January – May 1877)

Author(s): Fabio Ashtar Telarico / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2024

This paper seeks to bridge the gap between archival text analysis and network analysis by applying network clustering methods to analyze the coverage of Bulgaria in 123 issues of the newspaper Osservatore Romano published between January and May 1877. Utilizing optical character recognition and generalized homogeneity blockmodeling, the study constructs networks of relevant keywords. Those including the sets Bulgaria and Russia are rather isomorphic and they largely overlap with those for Germany, Britain, and War. In structural terms, the blockmodel of the two networks exhibits a clear core-semiperiphery-periphery structure that reflects relations between concepts in the newpaper’s coverage. The newspaper’s lexical choices effectively delegitimised the Bulgarian national revival, highlighting the influence of the Holy See on the newspaper’s editorial line.

Inštitút prázdneho kresla a globálna „kultúra opičenia sa“

Author(s): Anna Sámelová / Language(s): Slovak Issue: 1/2024

The dramaturgy of an empty chair in a radio or television debate is a rare phenomenon in Slovakia. Despite this, Slovak journalism theorists and practitioners are increasingly encountering the scandalization of this symbolic editorial procedure by laymen. The interpretation of some politicians that an empty chair is censorship is particularly dangerous. The aim of this theoretical study is therefore to clarify what the empty chair institute is, when and how it can be applied, when and how it may not be applied, how it is related to the process of mediatization of the world and culture, why it has become an object of politicization, and how it is connected with the global “monkey-see-monkey-do-culture”.

Reflexia kauzy Hany Ponickej v exilových periodikách

Author(s): Mária Stanková / Language(s): Slovak Issue: 1/2024

This study examines the portrayal of Hana Ponická in 1977 by Czech and Slovak exile periodicals. The objective is to identify the differences in reporting between the official media and the exile media regarding Hana Ponická’s expulsion from the Slovak Writers’ Union and its impact on the cultural life. The present study utilises content analysis and complex semantic-pragmatic interpretation of texts to examine news and journalistic texts from exile periodicals reporting on Hana Ponická between 1977-1979. These texts are then compared with Ladislav Považský’s pamphlet published in Pravda.

Модел за оценка на рецептивния език при деца от предучилищна възраст

Author(s): Neli Vasileva,Elena Boyadzhieva-Deleva,Denitsa Krasteva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 4/2024

The beginning of the preschool period (4-5 years) is a time of active formation and improvement of the neuropsychological mechanisms of the main linguistic levels of spoken language (phonological, lexical-semantic and grammatical) in their two main aspects - receptive (perception and processing of verbal information ) and expressive (language encoding and generation of independent utterances). However, the existing diagnostic procedures, both in Bulgaria and worldwide, mainly focus on the state of children‘s expressive language skills. The processes related to the perception and processing of linguistic information often remain outside the attention of specialists. The probable reason for this fact is that in the development of children‘s language, perception and understanding precede expressive abilities. This unproven claim directs researchers‘ attention to the realization of children‘s language skills at the expense of the state of impressive language. It is known that there are variants in which children remember and use „ pattern expressions“ without a sufficient degree of understanding. Incomplete decoding of grammatical forms is most fully highlighted in the process of speech therapy diagnostics and has a high prognostic value regarding both the oral and written language of children. In the literacy period, similar type of deficits have a negative impact on reading skills related to decoding and understanding of written texts. The difficulties multiply as the volume and complexity of the learning texts increase during the different stages of schooling. The diagnostic tools available in our country for assessing early language development mainly focus on the state of children‘s expressive language ability (as in Diagnostics and prevention of language 3 – 4, D.P.E. 3 – 4, Stoyanova, Yosifova, Poppandova, Netsova, 2010; VERBA-2, Andonova 2022a, 2022b). This explains the need to develop and test a detailed diagnostic model for evaluating receptive language abilities at the main levels of the language system – lexical, morphological and syntactic. The material presents the conceptual framework of the first in our country hierarchically structured Model for the evaluation of receptive language in children with typical development at the age of 4 – 5 years. The purpose of the model is to derive age norms for decoding and understanding the Bulgarian language, which have a high prognostic value for the early diagnosis and prevention of children at risk of future learning difficulties.

Czynniki kształtujące branżę medialną w fazie cyfryzacji – analiza publikacji naukowych

Author(s): Anita Uchańska-Bieniusiewicz / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2023

The objective of the article is an attempt to identify the most important topics shaping the media industryin the second decade of the 21st century, which can be identified with the digitization phase in the development of the industry. The thematic analysis covered 591 publications that appeared in three leading scientific journals in the field of media management and media economics, i.e. “Journal of Media Economics”, “International Journal on Media Management” and “Journal of Media Business Studies”. The results of the conducted analysis were compared with the topics indicated by leading researchers in this area in leading publications defining media management and media economics, i.e. Handbook of Media Management and Economics. Differences can be observed between the topics indicated by experts as trends in the development of the industry and those dealt with by researchers publishing in scientific journals. This is important from the point of view of defining media management and media economics and further development of this field.
