Children generally grew up in their parental households in Southeastern Europe, but these households had different structures. This paper analyses these household structures, the number of siblings, whether children co-resided with grandparents or not, the extent to which children experienced the death of a parent during childhood, and the living arrangements of orphans. The analysis is based on census lists from the 17th to the 20th centuries containing about 85,000 children, both rural and urban. Major differences appeared in the analyses between urban and rural children as well as between different countries. A common historical pattern for all Southeastern Europe in historical time could not be detected.

The Romanian academic system must adapt to the changing demands imposed by the European educational standards, according to the conventions of Bologna and Lisbon. The compatibilisation of university paths in creating the curricula must consider the competences which are to be acquired. The responsibility belongs equally to the institutions providing academic programs, but also to the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education. We intend to analyse comparatively both the constant and variable elements of the academic programs for the Music field. The efficiency of these programs is particularly reflected from the point of view of insertion in the labour market, so the direct beneficiaries are the graduate students.

Age is a social construct that should be analysed as a flexible, contextual category, while old age is subject to coding and interpreting that create different formal and informal concepts of old age. As a micro-social universe, a home for old and infirm persons functions as socio-cultural framework within which, by analysing the experiences of its beneficiaries, we established the existence of four dominant interpretations of old age: fatalist, affirmative, stoical and relativistic. This work is focused on the authentic voices of old persons and personal experiences of old age and ageing. Contextuality and variability (of the feeling) of age, articulately testified by those experiences, show that perceptions of old age and feeling of getting old decisively depend on a personal vision and interpretation of the experience, that need not be compatible with the actual chronological age.

In the academic world, a kind of Hamlet's type question has become almost obsessive: a scholar/ academic staff should be or should not be more a professional of teaching activity, or more a researcher. The paper presents the coordinates of a long-term and thorny debate about the topic of the balance between teaching and research in the context of academic staff status. This presentation is based, on one side, on the analysis of the different opinions expressed on wide geographical areas of the academic world; on the other side a research about the topic within Romanian context is announced and presented. The methods of collecting opinions were investigation based on questionnaires, focus groups organized and run in different contexts and on different occasions and managed observation on a wider category of teachers, beyond the academic world, in pre-university system. The reason of extended the area of observation is that the manner of the entire teaching staff assessment tends to be focused more and more on the proofs of research and less and less on the teaching performance reflected by the students' performances. A clear distinction between the professor as a researcher and the professional researcher, as a defined status, is argued. The conclusion of this investigation is put into the context of the worldwide opinion on this topic.
