TARAFLAR KONFERANSI (COP 25)

Author(s): Uğur SADİOĞLU,Erkan Ağiralan / Language(s): Turkish Issue: Suppl. 1/2020

The first step in combating climate change, which is a global problem, was taken at the conference held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. The "United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC)" was accepted in this conference organized by the United Nations under the name of "World Summit". The Conference of the Parties (COP) is held annually since 1994 when this agreement came into force. In this context, 25th Conference of the Parties (COP25) that was held between 2-13 December 2019 in Madrid with the slogan of “Time for Action"has a great importance both for Turkey and the whole world. In this study, the 25th Conference of the Parties, in respect of its output and results, is addressed in the context of combating climate change. As a result of this examination, it was seen that COP 25 did not fully meet the expectations and many points were left to the next Conference Of The Parties.

New tool to improve the oasis ecosystem using QGIS. Case study: Biskra city in Algeria

New tool to improve the oasis ecosystem using QGIS. Case study: Biskra city in Algeria

Author(s): Fatma-Zohra Hadagha,Abdallah Farhi,Christiane Weber / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2021

The world experiences a phenomenon of accelerated urbanization since the last century to our day that poses several problems, in particular natural environment. The oasis ecosystem in Biskra is threatened or even degraded due to accelerated urban growth in recent decades. This urbanization, which takes place at the expense of the palm grove, has led to the loss of a very large number of palm trees. This prompts reflection on solutions for its sustainability. We suppose that using GIS tools helps in measuring the losses in terms of palms number in the oasis of Biskra, then we can use these founds to improve the ecosystem oasis and to reduce the urbanization impact. The goal of this work is to find a tool that helps in improving the oasis ecosystem in Biskra and corresponds to its context. Also, it attempts to prove that GIS are useful for measuring the impact of urbanization on the oasis of Biskra. The results show that using the palm modular in GIS helps to define the ratio palm number/inhabitant which is a tool that may contribute in improving the oasis ecosystem in arid and hot regions.

The conceptual-methodological evolution, from a geographical perspective, of the research of the atmospheric factors that affect the people in a community

Author(s): Mihaela-Nicoleta Țiculeanu-Ciurlică,Dumitru Mihăilă / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2020

In the current context, although modern man lives in an increasingly anthropized environment, aspiring to gain absolute control of his niche of development, we see that the influence of weather and climate factors on socio-dynamic homeostasis and population health is increasingly oscillating and more difficult to control/ predict. In this study we aim to supply the attention of environmental specialists with a selection of observations and papers belonging to researchers and specialists in fields that address the health of the population in relation to environmental factors, with a focus on weather and climate. Although scientifically accredited records and measurements show that there is great variability and marked changes in environmental factors in a relatively short time, and studies show that this variability and changes have a strong impact on the well-being of the population, such issues continue to be neglected at the level of institutions and decision-makers, who should focus on human health and safety.

ОЧЕРКИ АНТРОПОЛОГИИ ГОРОДА, ПЕРЕЖИВШЕГО ЗЕМЛЕТРЯСЕНИЕ

Author(s): Gayane Shagoyan / Language(s): Russian Issue: 1/2010

The results of the analysis of the accumulation of heavy metals, V, Cr, Ni, Cu, Cd, Pb, Mo, Sb, Sn, W are provided. The research was conducted with the mass spectroscopic method based on the XSeries-2 ICP-MS device. The muscular tissues, liver and bones of the river perch Perca fluviatilis from Lake Chetyryokhvestnoe (area – 0,118 km2), located in the city of Petrozavodsk, were studied. Despite the relative remoteness from the center, the reservoir is constantly subjected to the anthropogenic load. Potential sources of heavy metals that enter and accumulate in the waters of the city lake together with the wastewater from the nearest catchment are economic entities and emissions coming from the road and rail transport and industrial enterprises in Petrozavodsk. The paper presents the results of the study of the dynamics of accumulation of heavy metals in bottom sediments. It was concluded that an increased level of contamination of the sediments of the reservoir affects the accumulation of toxic elements in living organisms, including representatives of the fish fauna of the lake. The results of experimental fishing on the Lake Chetyryokhvestnoe showed that the fish fauna of the reservoir is represented mainly by the river perch, the most common type of fish for Karelia. The age composition of catches was represented by the individuals of four age groups (from 2+ to 5+); five-year old species dominated (21 %). It was established that the greatest accumulation in all organs of the fish was noted for such essential elements as P, Zn, Mn. As for heavy metals, the greatest accumulation is characterized by Ni. It is noted that almost all heavy metals accumulate actively in the liver of the fish. Most elements have close correlation links, for example, between Pb and V or Mo and W. The obtained results speak of the presence of consistent anthropogenic sources of metals entering the ecosystem of the city lake.

The article presents the analysis of the resource potential of floodplain meadows from various administrative regions of Arkhangelsk region. Studies are based on the data from 197 geobotanical descriptions of 100 m2 trial plots. We have established a range of ecological conditions for the formation of floodplain meadows along ecological gradient scales. The result is presented as an indirect ordination using the method of non-metric scaling. The moistening of soils is a leading factor in the formation of floodplain meadows in comparison with the richness of soils and pasture digression. In total, we detected 251 species of vascular plants from 48 families and 139 genera. Meadow species of plants have different indices of phytocenotic significance (for all species of the general floral list and for individual regions). The foxtail meadow is the absolute leader for all areas. The taxonomic floristic analysis showed the coincidence of only two families in the spectra of the general floral list and the flora of the entire region. All types of plants are divided into categories: medicinal, decorative, tanning, dyeing, technical, cultivated, honey, food, forage, weed and poisonous species. We have identified areas with a massive spread of poisonous species (Kholmogorskii, Primorskii districts) with weeds of small-stalked herbs (Verkhnetoemskii, Krasnoborskii, Pinezhskii districts), and with coarse-grained species (Pinezhskii, Primorskii districts). Grass stands of highest quality are located in Plesetskiy region.

The presence of numerous small scale mires (less than 100 ha) on the territory of Karelia is rather common for this territory. According to our research most of the small size mires are understudied. The goal of our research was to evaluate the state of floral diversity and vegetation communities in small mires of accumulative glacial uplands located in southern Karelia. The research results of the floral and geobotanical studies on 48 mires of Veshkelskii and Vohtozerskii accumulative glacial uplands are presented. The checklist of mires’ flora includes 127 species of vascular plants and 54 species of moss. 12 associations of plant communities were defined using the topological-ecological approach. The detrended correspondence analysis helped to allocate associations in gradients of ecological factors reflecting both the nutrient status and moisture characteristic of the habitats. Ombrotrofic plant communities are located on mires in closed hollows with no outflow. Oligotrophic and mesotrophic plant communities are located on mires with flow-through hollows.

Physical and chemical characteristics of water infusions of flints are measured and analyzed: рН, the oxidation-reduction potential, the specific electric conductivity, and the content of silicon in the solution. The рН in solutions of water infusions of flints stays within the range of the values of this parameter approved by the normative documents for waters of drinking purposes. The values of oxidation-reduction potentials of water infusions of flints are positive and make from > 300 to < 500 mV, which shouldn’t cause any change in the oxidation-reduction potentials of the internal environment of an organism, and curative properties of these infusions can’t be connected with the Eh parameter. The content of water-soluble mineral connections and of the easily acquired orthosilicon acid in flints is very insignificant; water infusions of flints can’t change the osmotic pressure of biological liquids and be considered as essential sources of silicon for a human body.

İklim Değişikliğinin Güvenlikleştirilmesine Suriye İç Savaşı Bağlamında Eleştirel Bir Bakış

Author(s): Ahmet Conker / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 04/2020

There have been numbers of academic studies that connect the Syrian civil war with climate change. According to this view, the Syrian civil war is yet another example of how climate change may trigger and exacerbate armed conflicts. This approach's main argument is that the long-standing drought in Syria is a consequence of the climate change that led to mass domestic migration and triggered the uprising. The study aims to analyse how the securitising elites portrayed climate change as a threat by exemplifying the Syrian civil war and by showing why such securitisation is problematic. This paper argues that the securitisation of climate change is problematic, owing to the following reasons. First, the causality between climate change and its role in the erupt of the Syrian uprising is still debated. Second, it overshadows the incompetence and the responsibility of the Baath Regime. Third, the weak spots between climate change and the civil war give climate change deniers to make counterarguments

Usmene predaje Velebitskog podgorja

Usmene predaje Velebitskog podgorja

Author(s): Matija Dronjić / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 1/2009

The material published in this article was gathered over many years of field research in the area of the Velebit foothills from Sveti Juraj to Karlobag, derived from within the project The Identity and Ethnogenesis of Coastal Bunjevci and Identity and Ethnoculuture of the Formation of the Bunjevci under the leadership of dr. Milana Černelić from the Department of Ethnology and Cultura Anthropology, Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. The field research included a set of themes from the spiritual culture, including in particular the highlighted prose forms of oral literature. As the informants did not remember the fairy tales, fables, and longer stories, the narrative repertoire is mainly based on short stories, legends and traditions. Given that the greatest number of collected articles fell precisely into the submitted substantial thematic variety and rich expressions, this contribution is based solely on this form oforal literature. This work is conceived as a collection of traditions accompanied with an oral introductory part, which describes the writer and the particular situation’s saying. After the texts themselves, there comes an overview of the relevant motifs associated with the parallels in oral literature and beliefs of the Southern Slavs, and beyond. Among the texts, mostly historical and mythological traditions predominate, along with less common etiology. As with the historical, the etiological lore are mostly related to the period ofwar against the Turks, when the Bunjevci settled in this area. One special case represents the lore related to the older population, i.e. the Greeks. Within them are discernible transposed memoriesof historical events mixed in with elements of various folk traditions, especially the images of buried treasure. The natural characteristics of the foothills region are reflected in the various tales, whether it is just about places or a theme close to mythological motifs, such as the belief that on some mountain peaks fairies dance. Thematically speaking, the most numerous are the mythological legends, whose motives are based on the belief in supernatural beings such asfairies, witches, werewolves, Satan, the so-called “Black Man” and the deceased being returned to the living. Also, the mythological tradition includes a wide array of unusual events, of whichmany were played out at night, often on the Velebit slopes. Finally, there is a special place in the narrative repertoire of coastal Bunjevci who had many amazing stories about snakes.

A CULTURAL APPROACH TO EARTHQUAKE COPING STRATEGIES: EXAMPLES OF TURKISH FOLK POEMS AND MEMORATES

A CULTURAL APPROACH TO EARTHQUAKE COPING STRATEGIES: EXAMPLES OF TURKISH FOLK POEMS AND MEMORATES

Author(s): Hülya Çevirme / Language(s): English Issue: 31/2020

The aim of this study is to ensure that the cultural dimension discussed among the strategies to cope with the earthquake and to propose the use of this cultural dimension in earthquake education. The documents of the study consist of Turkish folk poems and memorates. In the study, document analysis method, one of the qualitative data collection methods, was used; the data were interpreted with information obtained from descriptive analysis. As a result of the research, it has been observed that Turkish folk poems and memorates have supernatural, mystical, traditional beliefs and thoughts about earthquake. The positive cultural dimension related to the earthquake that is folk poems and in memorates is that unity and solidarity and glorify of the solidarity tradition. On the other hand, the negative cultural dimension is the belief that the earthquake is a punishment due to people violated the religion, tradition and custom. In addition, the social and political disintegrations that occurred during the earthquake were also interpreted as a negative cultural dimension. From this point of view, it is suggested that the cultural dimension of the earthquake is considered as an additional strategy in addition to the known coping strategies and is defined “cultural memory strategy”.

The Ecosystems of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve state-of the-art

The Ecosystems of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve state-of the-art

Author(s): Petre Gâștescu / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2021

Taking into account the morphologic-hydrographic configuration of natural ecosystems or ecosystems partly modified by man the area, its flora and fauna communities and the long-term human impact, the two main categories of Danube Delta ecosystems associated with Razim-Sinoie lake complex, coastal marine waters and the Danube flood plain between Isaccea and Tulcea, as part of Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve, have been delimited: natural ecosystems or ecosystems partly modified by man; anthropic ecosystems. To identify and characterize ecosystems, there have been analysed the data on hydrography, morphology, biodiversity, human settlements, types of land use, spatial changes through the construction of agricultural, fisheries, forestry polders, modification of the network of channels and canals with consequences on the water circulation system inside the delta. The first category, of natural and partly modified by man ecosystems comprises 23 types (water bodies: running waters-Danube and its main branches, channels and canals; standing freshwater-lakes; standing brackish and salt waters-coastal lagoons, coastal, marine zones; wetlands: water fringe vegetation-flooded reed beds, floating reed beds , riparian willow formations, frequently flooded river levees; forests, shrubs and herbaceous vegetation: temperate riverine forests-mixed oak woods, shrubs and herbaceous vegetation, steppe meadows, meadows on low marine levees; dunes, beaches). The second category, of anthropic ecosystems includes 7 types (agricultural lands, forest areas-plantation on the river banks, fish farms, settlements-villages, towns). With the establishment of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve in 1990, with the statutory provisions on the protection and conservation of biodiversity, the deltaic landscape, some of the previous pressures were reduced, but the pollution of the Danube waters less consolidated beaches (Sulina, Sfântu Gheorghe, Chituc) and related with touristic activities, on ecosystems as a whole. The tourism activities also must represent not only a positive and dynamic development factor but also a practical solution to keeping the environment unaltered. These aspects were mentioned in the characterization of the ecosystems presented in this article.

Climate variability in the summer of 2020 in south-west Romania in the context of climate change.

Climate variability in the summer of 2020 in south-west Romania in the context of climate change.

Author(s): Ion Marinica,Andreea Floriana Marinică,Luminița Diaconu / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2021

Globally, 2020 ended the warmest decade since the beginning of the measurements (WMO), and the warmest year was 2016, marked by a strong and intense El Ñino. In Oltenia the warmest year was 2019 with the average for the whole region of 12.4°C and the deviation from normal of 2.5°C, followed by 2020 with the general average of 12.2°C and the deviation from normal of 2.3°C. After the 2019- 2020 warm winter, which was the second Mediterranean winter in southern Romania, followed the normal thermal spring in which climatic anomalies were frequent. The summer of 2020 was warm and marked by great climate variability, given by the presence of a weak La Ñina climate process. Since June, the average temperature is normal and unstable, the climatic alternations and the progressive increase of the air temperature, determined that in August the weather will be the warmest during the summer and an intense heat wave occurred at the end of the month with the peak on 1.IX.2020.The paper analyses special climate variability in the summer of 2020, which is the continuation of an extensive series of works on climate variability and climate change in southwestern Romania (I. Marinică 2006, I. Marinică, Andreea Floriana, 2016, 2020). The paper is useful to all those interested in climate variability and climate change in this part of Romania.
