Teaching Spanish in Albania Before and After the ‘90

Author(s): Prodani Anastasi,Aida Gjinali,Sandra GJOKA / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2014

In Albania, the teaching of Spanish language at schools dates back to 1979. It began for the first time in the high school of foreign languages "Asim Vokshi", where only one language was taught as a foreign language despite the fact that other languages such as English, Russian, French were offered , too, and in 1979 German and Italian was also included. The introduction of Spanish language in 1979 was inevitable due to the necessity of using Spanish manuals. It is a known fact that Albania before the '90s was an isolated country with a communist regime and finding manuals for learning Spanish language was fairly difficult. It was impossible to find or to select an adequate manual as there was none. There was no market at all for Spanish books. You could not find Spanish manuals neither in the National Library nor in other regional libraries. In such a situation of total lack, the only source was the personal library of some Spanish people, Marxist- Leninist ones, the first professors of Spanish language in Albania during the ‘70s and the ‘80s, who were members of the Communist (M-L) Party of Spain and came to Albania to teach Spanish but also to help the communist propaganda for the socialist model built in Albania. The purpose of our paper besides presenting a brief history of Spanish language teaching in Albania is also to bring in focus the examination of Spanish manuals used for more than 30 years, analyzing the manuals before and after the '90s, and to see what was offered then and what is offered today when Spanish is taught not only as a Foreign Language (E / LE), but also as a Content-Based Language

Positive Climate and Motivation, Achilles’ Heel in Classes and Schools

Author(s): Aida Gjinali / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2014

The purpose of this research is to treat and identify two major factors that influence teaching, the creation of a positive climate and motivation, which should be encouraged and created with the purpose of successfully fulfilling not just the school programme and objectives defined by it, but also for a psycho-physiological and emotional wellbeing of the student. A good psycho-physical and emotional well-being of the student provide for a better motivation, and, of course, for a better performance. It happens often that teachers concentrate more in the fulfilment of the scholastic programme and neglect or consider it as a loss of time the issue of a positive climate and motivation of students. It goes without saying that learning implies the student’s individual desire, besides the scholastic obligation. This desire which can be instinctive but sometimes driven from family, school and society, is often presented with obstacles during the school year, such as lack of interest, lack of desire to attend classes, lack of desire to learn a subject or all subjects up to total refusal, which endanger the school progress. The causes that influence such a demise are of many forms and different natures, both internal and external, and they increase the student’s affective filter and create psychological barriers which lead to letdown and fail to achieve the defined objectives of subject/s, and they also give way to internal thoughts of incapability and lack of integration in class and in relationship with others, a low self esteem and total lack of want. The concept of the classroom as a sole group where everyone is equal and where everyone receives in the same way motivation, affection and interaction is essential for the creation of a positive climate. By taking into account the factors that influence such discouraging barriers, there comes forth the need for the teacher to search within oneself and his teaching method for the solutions. This means, he has to look for and use new and diverse techniques and strategies that encourage a positive and motivating climate for the students. The teacher should clarify and increase his teaching performance, he should find other motivating forms and he should not let himself get lost in the daily routine and personal discouragement. Students are very sensitive to the teacher’s model and presented teaching method, therefore, in order to achieve the target of a more efficient class, it is needed a thorough internal and external renovation, both theoretical and practical.

Food education: factors involved in food selection

Food education: factors involved in food selection

Author(s): Mădălina Iuga / Language(s): English Issue: 8/2017

There are many factors influencing a food product selection, even if the most known is health benefits. This study describes the effect size of nine factors such as health, mood, convenience, sensory quality, ingredients, price, energetic value, familiarity and ethical aspects. The most important aspect of each factor was also determinated. A questionnaire was applied on a sample of 95 persons aged between 16 and more than 60 years. The summary statistics and the correlation (r>0,2) were applied using Data Analysis pacgake. The results showed that health benefits and the ingredients have the greatest influence, while the convenience and the energetic value were considered as beeing less important in food choice. The well-being, the taste, the natural ingredients, the good price ratio, the low fat content, the eco-friendly package, the fact that the food product can be bought from shops near their house and people ate it before have a strong contribution in food selection. So, it is important to take all these factors into account when we talk about food aducation and food practices.

Analiza bibliometryczna piśmiennictwa z zakresu komputeryzacji bibliotek na podstawie „Polskiej Bibliografii Bibliologicznej”

Author(s): Izabela Swoboda / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2/2018

One planned to present a quantitative description of the Polish literature which is thematically associated with the problems of the computerisation of libraries in Poland; to define the dynamics of its growth across the span of the last fifty years and to identify – and to provide a quantitative description thereof – of the particular problems which were the subject of the publication until the end of 2017. One applied a bibliometrical method, and the source of data for the bibliometrical analyses was constituted by the “Polish Bibliological Bibliography” (PBB). The study enabled one to determine the time when the bibliological and informatological literature saw the emergence of the first publications which are thematically associated with the problems of the automatisation of libraries and how the dynamics of the growth of the literature in this field occurred in the years 1970–2009. As far as the particular problems are concerned, one indicated only the publications devoted to online catalogues, digital libraries and the Internet in library science. The study also facilitated the identification of factors which hindered or even precluded bibliometrical analyses – the latter were necessary for the obtaining of reliable results. The work was enhanced by the elements of the analysis of the “Polish Bibliological Bibliography” in terms of its utility as a source for bibliometrical research in the problems which are discussed.

Renovating the Cultural Heritage of Traditional Shadow Theatre with eShadow. Design, Implementation, Evaluation and Use in Formal and Informal Learning

Renovating the Cultural Heritage of Traditional Shadow Theatre with eShadow. Design, Implementation, Evaluation and Use in Formal and Informal Learning

Author(s): Nektarios Moumoutzis,Marios Christoulakis,Stavros Christodoulakis,Desislava Paneva-Marinova / Language(s): English Issue: VIII/2018

Digital storytelling is an engaging learning environment that gained worldwide popularity over the last years. It offers a rich cross-curricular learning environment within which children design, create and present their own stories and develop many skills including literacy, presentation and communication skills as well as inquiry-based learning and digital skills. In this paper we present a new way of digital storytelling, a form of dramatized storytelling inspired by the rich tradition of Shadow Theater. This form of storytelling showcases an engaging way of renovating cultural heritage with the use of digital technologies. It combines a number of digital tools for the production of the digital stories covering all five phases of film making: scenario development, preproduction, production, post-production and distribution. eShadow can be used (a) to create digital shad-ow puppets, and (b) to set up, perform and record the scenes of the digital story (production phase). This way, digital story creation is wrapped around engaging learning scenarios, playful improvisations and creative learning. eShadow has been extensively used to support cross-curricular learning mainly in Greek schools. It is extended to support marionette-like interactions to promote its use in countries with relevant storytelling cultures.

The recent decade had brought about massive growth in the Web and Web data - pictures, documents, videos and more. What worked well for years with relational databases is not well suited for the unstructured massive amounts of data and applications that are part of the Web, such as social networks. As a result, new types of database have emerged, including NoSQL (“not only SQL”) databases. Graph data-bases are one type of NoSQL database.

Non Algebraic Techniques for Digital Processing of Historic Painting Research Documentation

Non Algebraic Techniques for Digital Processing of Historic Painting Research Documentation

Author(s): Magdelena Stoyanova,Diego C. Stoyanov,Lilia Pavlova / Language(s): English Issue: VIII/2018

Conservation of historic painting requires comprehensive and correct information to be analyzed during the diagnostic and decision making process in a systematic and rational approach. This paper aims to contribute for the setting of an optimal working process tailored for digital image processing of historic painting research documentation, to be used also in other interdisciplinary areas. To the end it integrates the purely algebraic approach with expediencies derived from the specific scientific background of multidimensional and multimodal images of different types (MMI). Following key tasks have been addressed: 1)Presentation involving non algebraic methods whose main advantages are the functionality to the objectives of the scientific study, the relatively reduced computational complexity and the possibility of parallel processing of MMI; 2) Simulation of new digital expedients based on developed methods by using test databases containing different types of MMIs; 3) MMI analysis based on non-algebraic intelligent segmentation methods that expand the possibilities for proper detection, recognition and evaluation of the changes in the surveyed objects; 4) MMI processing based on adaptive interpolation, which is of small computational complexity and provides high quality interpolated areas (objects) in 2,5D, facilitating the decision-making process on the basis of the relevant information. The effectiveness of the proposed approaches in terms of scientific functionality, accuracy of the diagnosis, and low computational complexity is demonstrated with examples of applications to typical real data in the respective subject area.
