Çift-Körleme Hakemlik Sürecinin Etkinliği Konusunda Turizm Akademisyenlerinin Düşünceleri

Çift-Körleme Hakemlik Sürecinin Etkinliği Konusunda Turizm Akademisyenlerinin Düşünceleri

Author(s): Eray Polat / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 2/2020

The manuscripts sent to peer-reviewed journals are subjected to an audit called the peer review process in order to control them from various angles. The double-blind peer review process (CK), which is one of these processes, is predominantly preferred by scientific journals in the discipline of tourism and has been carried out for many years. However, in recent years, CK has been subject to criticism in various aspects. In this context, the aim of the study is to determine the thoughts of tourism academicians about the CK. In this research, where qualitative research methods are used, the population consists of the academicians taking part in the scientific committee of the 20th National Tourism Congress. The population is required to be accessible and because of this no need for sampling. The semi-structured interview form, which was interviewed electronically, was used in order to collect data. The obtained data were analyzed by descriptive analysis method. According to the results, tourism academicians (69%) think that the process increases the quality of the manuscripts. In addition, the process, objectivity and quality assurance in terms of providing advantages; it also has the disadvantages that time and referees can make sloppy review. Finally, it is foreseen by the academicians that the process can be improved by some precautions taken by the editors and referees.

Reportaż literacki jako obszar badań (na przykładzie Szachinszacha Ryszarda Kapuścińskiego)

Author(s): Beata Nowacka / Language(s): Polish Issue: 34/2020

Shah of Shahs by Ryszard Kapuściński is considered a controversial book – the opinions about it expressed by Iranian experts are definitely divergent. The author attempts to compare the selected facts from the history of Iran, which are described in the reportage, to the information gathered in other publications (including academic sources) on the topic. The analysis of the passages of the book, which were compared with relevant historical information, identified various types of factual inaccuracies – ranging from obvious factual errors to discrepancies implemented by the reporter deliberately. The greatest value of Kapuściński’s reportage is therefore not the objectivity of the message but its universality.

Itinerarium wielkiego księcia litewskiego Witolda: 4/5 sierpnia 1392–27 października 1430

Itinerarium wielkiego księcia litewskiego Witolda: 4/5 sierpnia 1392–27 października 1430

Author(s): Sergiej Polechow / Language(s): Polish Issue: 5/2019

The article presents the itinerary of Grand Duke Vytautas of Lithuania (1392–1430) on the basis of extensive source material, both published and unpublished, preserved in the archives and libraries of Belarus, Germany, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia, and Ukraine; the relevant literature is also taken into account. The analysis of Vytautas’ itinerary against the background of the rulers’ travelling practice in the other countries of medieval Europe leads to the conclusion that no system of the ruler’s regular tours emerged in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, unlike in neighbouring Poland under Władysław Jagiełło. The grand duke of Lithuania spent most of his time in Lithuania proper and in Grodno land, leaving the core of the state for the outlying districts and foreign states in connection with specific tasks of home and foreign policy, such as strengthening his power, meetings with other rulers and war expeditions.

Biblioteki i bibliotekarze w przestrzeni filmowej (reprezentacje i konotacje)

Author(s): Barbara Lena Gierszewska / Language(s): Polish Issue: 32/2019

Using selected films, a picture of library buildings and their interiors from the 1950s to the present day has been created. The vast majority of libraries are “temples of knowledge”, and librarians (invariably educated and relatively unattractive women) are the “guardians” of the collections. Contemporary film rarely depicts shows libraries as a system not to be overestimated “in the times of smart phones and social media”. Filmmakers’ attention is drawn mainly the interesting architecture of library interiors to, in which “library scenes” are set, hence the aura of library is seldom perceptible. Książnice is often the backdrop or part of the story told in the film, and sometimes reveal other features such as the genre and other books important to the characters.

Sentiment Analysis of Speech with Application to Various Languages

Author(s): Akash Apturkar,Alexander I. Iliev,Amruth Anand,Arush Oli,Swadesh Reddy Siddenki,Vikram Reddy Meka / Language(s): English Issue: X/2020

In this paper we aim to explore and implement a modern speech recognition system using Natural Language Processing (NLP) and sentiment analysis that can be applied in the area of audio and text archive investigation from various languages. To that end we developed a project that can be used to convert speech to text and perform various analysis on a converted text. Furthermore, we focused on recognizing different information such as names, emotions and also determine the overall sentiment of a script. Furthermore, we perform web scraping for names and organizations of importance used in speech. To achieve this, we used Python with various specialized modules. In order to simplify the task of collecting and storing audio inputs for processing we have developed an Android app with connection to a cloud database. This methodology can easily be applied for the purposes of digital presentation and preservation of cultural and scientific heritage.

Digital Reconstruction by Imaging and Post Processing Techniques of the Nicopeia Icon Transformations

Digital Reconstruction by Imaging and Post Processing Techniques of the Nicopeia Icon Transformations

Author(s): Magdelena Stoyanova,Diego C. Stoyanov,Lilia Pavlova / Language(s): English Issue: X/2020

The famous palladium of Venice, the Nicopeia icon kept in the basilica of San Marco, 1968 underwent spectral and micro chemical investigations. Their largely overlooked to the moment findings proved the existence of more superimposed images of Our Lady, not identical with the one visible today. The present paper analyzes the issues of these laboratory ex-aminations from technical-technological point of view to the end to gain as many as possible insights into the composition, sequence and plastic construction of the original painting and its successive transformations. The visualization of the outcomes and the evaluation of the various work hypotheses are supported by imaging and post processing techniques ranging from digitization and optimization of old analogue photos to image manipulation methods. The results allow to draw conclusions not only about the appearance of the hidden Mother of God and about its original significance, but al-so to address for first time with scientific criteria the question of the icon’s date and provenance.

The work is in progress and results obtained so far are promising.
