About the Effectiveness of Several Dissimilarity Estimators used in Damage Assessment

About the Effectiveness of Several Dissimilarity Estimators used in Damage Assessment

Author(s): Vasile Iancu,Gilbert-Rainer Gillich,Cristian Paul Chioncel / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2016

This paper introduces a robust method for vibration-based damage assessment, which is based on a mathematical relation contrived by the authors that involves the frequency shifts, the damage size and position. Databases containing damage indicators for all possible damage scenarios, for three types of beams, were developed by involving this mathematical relation. The proposed damage indicator is expressed using the relative frequency shifts. The damage location and severity can be assessed if the relative frequency shifts are derived from measurements at the initial state and periodically afterwards. The paper investigates the effectiveness of several dissimilarity estimators, to find damage involving frequencies measured without and in the presence of noise.

Properties of the Surface Layer of Thin Films of Polyaniline Doped With Phosphoric Acid

Properties of the Surface Layer of Thin Films of Polyaniline Doped With Phosphoric Acid

Author(s): Almedina Modrić-Šahbazović,Izet Gazdić,Suada Sulejmanović / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2016

This study deals with estimation of the surface free energy of thin films of polyaniline doped with phosphoric acid, by measuring contact angles. Synthesis of polyaniline (PANI) with phosphoric acid (PA) was performed at room temperature of 20°C, and at 0°C. Thin films were obtained by means of a spin coater, applying the synthetized mixture on a glass substrate. By measuring the contact angle, first between ethylene glycol and a film and then between distilled water and a film, we thus calculated the polar, dispersion and total surface free energy. It was proved and demonstrated that the surface free energy depends on the temperature at which the solution (from which the thin films are obtained later) was synthesized.

Assessing and Evaluating UBT Model of Student Management Information System using ANOVA

Assessing and Evaluating UBT Model of Student Management Information System using ANOVA

Author(s): Bekim Fetaji,Majlinda Fetaji,Xhelal Jashari,Mirlinda Ebibi,Samir Ljajić,Hamza Kamberović,Bekim Iseini / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2016

The research study focus is set in assessing the efficiency and impact of Student Management Information System in facilitating students during registration and examination periods in the aspect of efficiency, performance and usability. As Case Study is chosen University for Business and Technology-UBT, where the system has been designed and tailored to, implemented, tested, evaluated and re-engineered. The analyses tries to identify whether the developed UBT model shows improvement in student services, data centralization, data security, and the entire process of student eservices. Through the Case Study investigated several impacting factors. Afterwards evaluated the usability and user-friendliness of the developed UBT model and solutions of Management Information System and used ANOVA regression analyses to determine the impact. Insights and recommendations are provided.

QAHEaaS or Quality Assurance in Higher Education as a Service

Author(s): Stanka Hadzhikoleva,Emil Hadzhikolev / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2016

The rise of globalization has highlighted the issue of internationalization of quality assurance in education. The COMPASS-OK software application for (self) assessment and accreditation, developed at the Plovdiv University, maintains features for modeling of methods and procedures for quality assessment of education. Its successful application has raised the idea of extending it as a universal tool developed on the basis of cloud services – a tool which provides services to ensure the quality of education for educational institutions and accreditation agencies from around the world. This article offers a conceptual framework and discusses the advantages and benefits of such a development.

Children’s Perspective on Learning: the Experience of the Bulgarian Students

Author(s): Iliana Mirtschewa,Elena Djambazova / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2016

This paper presents the results of an international project “Joy to Learn” with participants from Bulgaria, Germany, Japan, Spain, Poland, Romania and USA. The research focuses on joyful and happy situations for students connected to learning in school. It is important to obtain information on the thoughts, feelings, needs, desires, and the fears of the children. This would enable to promote the improvement of the learning process in terms of the student. The survey covered 300 students (from 1st to 8th grade) from Bulgaria. The results show that most of the students prefer to be active in the process of learning, however a presence of negative attitude towards learning in general was found.
