The Role of Interreligious Dialogue and Outreach in Building Trust and Strengthening Social Inclusion in Europe: the case of Network for Dialogue

Author(s): Amjad Saleem,Aleksandra Djuric Milovanovic / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

Since 2015, migration to Europe has created challenges for community relations in terms of dealing with cohesive integration and a recognition of the growing diversity within communities. In recent years, European policymakers have perceived the arrival of refugees and migrants as a challenge especially as they try to address cross cuttingissues of social cohesion, economy and health. Representations of the ‘migrant crisis’ reinforce negative perceptions of migration dynamics. One narrative, which paints the notion of the arrival of refugees and migrants since 2015 as a constant flow of people that suddenly and unexpectedly pushed at the continent’s Mediterranean borders, distorts the lived experience of migration and trivialise migration-related challenges. Focus on the frequency and scale of the migration undermines nuanced understanding of the causes, consequences and experiences of migrants and refugees.

Reflections on the Causes of the Disastrous Moral and Political Decline of the Kingdom of Judah, Leading to their Conquest by the Babylonians

Reflections on the Causes of the Disastrous Moral and Political Decline of the Kingdom of Judah, Leading to their Conquest by the Babylonians

Author(s): Ioan-Gheorghe Rotaru / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

This article addresses the causes of the moral and political decline of the Kingdom of Judah, which led to its conquest by the Babylonians in 586 BC. Speaking of the history of the kingdom of Judah in the last days of its existence, the last four kings were very wicked, totally against their father, King Josiah. They did not respect the word of the Lord at all, nor the word of the prophet Jeremiah, without having a vision of their time, going against the current of the time, which led things to a national disaster. Thus in 586 BC, Jerusalem was conquered, the temple was burned and completely destroyed and the people taken into slavery, so for 70 years Jerusalem was a ruin. No one believed it could ever be rebuilt. In the last 20 years of the Kingdom of Judah's existence lived and worked the great prophet Jeremiah, who understood that Babylonian suzerainty was a thing ordained by God, counselling the king and the people to understand this. Unfortunately the prophet's messages were not heeded, and in the end, things went according to the predictions of the prophet Jeremiah.

Misiunea Bisericii în lumina Epistolei către Filipeni 1, 1-2, 18

Author(s): Teodor-Cristian Ștefan / Language(s): Romanian Publication Year: 0

This paper highlights the mission of each believer as an integral part of the Church, in the light of Philippians 1:1-2:18. One of the main themes of this chosen pericope is the importance of unity within the Church. St. Paul creates this through the particular Christological hymn of Phil 2:6-11, where Christ is presented as the model for each member of the Church to follow and also as the One through whom grace and power is given to accomplish this work. Next, St. Paul portrays Christ's humble and submissive attitude which serves as a model for all Christian communities. The ecclesial community, clergy and laity alike, must develop ways in which each member of the Church can take up the call of selflessness and love for neighbour: "in humility count one another more highly than yourselves" (Phil 2:3) and "let no one seek only his own, but let each seek another's as well." (Phil 2:4). A final important point is the issue of spreading the Gospel. St. Paul mentions the importance of evangelization and talks about the obstacles that can intervene in this process. For the Church today, this text is a landmark and a permanent model for today. Through its members, the Church is resisting the spirit of the world by seeking to make every believer a light in the world (cf. Phil 2:15). Taken as a whole, this passage can provide a comprehensive and profound insight into the Church's mission, relevant for the community founded by St Paul and for contemporary Christian communities.

Inter-Christian Relations at the beginning of the 20th century: The Contribution of the Ecumenical Patriarchate to the Development of Relations among Christian Churches

Author(s): Ioannis Ladas / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

The rapprochement of the Orthodox Church with all non-Orthodox Christian Churches and Confessions and the strengthening and development of relations with them has always been a matter of the immediate ecclesiastical perspective of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, which has become a key regulator of inter-Christian relations. The movement for closer inter-Christian cooperation and the realization of the unity of the Christian Churches intensified at the beginning of the 20th cent. and was largely connected with the Orthodox Church’s march towards the Holy and Great Council (2016). Despite the adverse conditions that the Ecumenical Patriarchate faced during much of the 20th cent., it undertook intensive actions (steps) to consolidate inter-Christian unity, which, on the one hand, brought the prestige of Orthodoxy around the world to its true levels, and on the other hand, led at a later stage to the beginning of official theological dialogues. Unfortunately, the brilliant actions of the early 20th cent. and the way of further rapprochement with the other Christian Churches were overshadowed by a period of interruption of the discussions, due to the beginning of the Second World War and the ensuing problems and rearrangements. The purpose of this article is to present both the relations between the Christian Churches at the beginning of the 20th cent. and the actions of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, which contributed decisively to the beginning of the course towards the much-hoped restoration of full unity in the faith and sacramental life of the Christian Churches.

Integrarea cântării religioase ca ipostaziere a misiunii educaționale a Bisericii

Author(s): Camelia-Maria Angheluș / Language(s): Romanian Publication Year: 0

In the same manner as prayer, chanting brings one closer to God, and has a reviving influence on the soul, aiming towards the achievement of the most noble ideals. Music is one of the main forms by means of which the religious sentiment is propagated, be it praise, request for the help of the Most High, or thankfulness. Chanting in itself comprises not only the manifestation of the sentiment, but also the theological effect whose core is aimed to touch the believers’ hearts. Starting from biblical and scientific coordinates, the importance of religious chants during Religion classes can be reasoned, as they contribute to the improvement of the students’ state of mind, and to the transmission of the teachings of faith that are translsted into lyrics and musical notes.

The influence of the family environment on the development of the unborn child

Author(s): Emanuel Buta / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

The development of the foetus or unborn child is directly influenced by the mother's condition and the family environment, according to the words of contemporary Holy Fathers and scientific research in the field. If the mother has kind thoughts, words and gestures towards the child, but also towards those around her, the child will receive these signals in a positive way, even if unconsciously. Similarly, if the mother is subjected to intense psychological stress, violence or physical and sexual abuse, then the child may also be influenced by these feelings throughout life. We believe that viable solutions to these problems concerning the child, the mother, the family and society as a whole can only be discovered after a knowledge of what the unborn child means, when its life begins, how it is formed and what our relationship with it should be.

Aspecte ale dezvoltării personale la Ken Wilber. O evaluare teologico-misionară

Author(s): Iulian-Constantin Vrabie / Language(s): Romanian Publication Year: 0

For over a century, psychologists have been actively creating innovative theories of human development. Many of these theories are also relevant to understanding spiritual and religious growth. Some of these are important general theories of human growth, while others are more specific theories of moral development with concerns that overlap with those of spiritual or religious formation. One of the most recent such theories of human development is the integral theory model proposed by psychologist Ken Wilber. In an early work entitled The Atman Project, Wilber outlines a transpersonal theory of development that draws on sources from religion, psychology and philosophy.Ken Wilber's integral theory is a comprehensive and integrative approach to human cognition that attempts to integrate multiple dimensions of human experience into a coherent model. In this context of the development of the human person, Eastern theology starts primarily from the vertical relationship, that means in the centre of human existence is the relationship with a personal God, and following the model of the Holy Trinity the relationship with one's fellow human beings is also integrated. This relationship involves a movement, an exploration or a journey, because being a human person involves not only the quality of sharing with others, but also that of growing. For Metropolitan Kalistos Ware, therefore, the point of contact between patristic theology and contemporary psychology is shown in the fact that this personal character of the human person is not something fixed and static, but involves development, growth. Now, in Orthodox theology, this dynamic character of the human person is expressed in the distinction between the image of God and the likeness of God.

Man Does Not Live on Bread Alone (Matthew 4: 4)

Author(s): Dan Romulus Şerban / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

There are several understudied types of addictions. Whether it is an addiction to food or alcohol, smoking, drugs, or, more recently, technology, the brain's reaction is the same, consisting of the secretion of serotonin, the pleasure hormone. Combating these addictions can be achieved through integrative therapy, which includes both the contemplation of nature and the discovery of its secrets, the cultivation of the mind, a balanced diet, and occupational therapy. In addition to lifestyle changes, religion is a recommended solution because it replaces the addiction of the brain with a benevolent attitude that can inter-neuronally discharge the same pleasure hormone.

Common Sense Ethics in Dialogue with Transhumanism

Common Sense Ethics in Dialogue with Transhumanism

Author(s): Dinu Lăcătuș / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

On the much-trodden ground of the conflict between Good and Evil, between universality and diversity, between the creative act and a lethal status quo, between faith and reason, between religion and science, it could be argued that every human being and action will suffer the same fate, chronically falling under the antagonistic empire, adding yet another gloss to the laurels of this empire's victory and yet another defeat of the human being. Moreover, the reality becomes even more painful when the human being realizes that Someone, from somewhere in places and dimensions still inaccessible to it, is watching its hopeless struggle, from which it also reaps other laurels of a different brilliance: "Man's struggle with his own misfortune is a spectacle worthy of the gods." And yet this reality is the very gift given to the human being of stepping "per aspera ad astra." Thus, conflict, crisis, tragedy, and pain, are, in fact, challenges and opportunities and are assimilated, incubated and gestated in the human being, from which wings are then born, escaping from this empire and soaring towards transcendent realms. Today the world faces a new challenge: artificial intelligence (AI) has developed a superior artificial intelligence (ASI), and at the same time the shift from the digital to the quantum age makes it possible for human beings to witness a transition from humanism to trans-humanism, then to post-humanism and so on towards a post-non-humanism.

The Role of Religious Education in Promoting Active Pluralism in Belgium

Author(s): Claudia Matei (Varga) / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

In the context of the growing cultural and religious diversity in contemporary society, religious education plays a crucial role in promoting mutual understanding and respect. This article explores the concept of "active pluralism" and its relevance in the current educational landscape, contrasting it with traditional models of religious education such as mono-religious and multireligious approaches. By examining educational theories and practices, the article highlights the advantages of interreligious education, which encourages active dialogue and empathetic understanding among students of different faiths. Additionally, the challenges and criticisms of passive pluralism are discussed, along with solutions for more effective implementation of interreligious education. The study focuses on the historical and educational context of Belgium, offering insights into how active pluralism can be effectively integrated into school curricula. The conclusions suggest that active pluralism and interreligious education are essential for developing an inclusive society capable of managing religious diversity in a constructive and harmonious manner.

Aspects of Religious Experience in the Thought of Norman L. Geisler and Friedrich Schleiermacher

Author(s): Florin Ludușan / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

In contemporary thought, the philosophy of religion has risen again despite attempts to remove God from the sphere of philosophical concerns. This paper explores the concept of general religious experience, defined as the totality of consciousness underlying particular experiences that is accessible to most people, with the lowest level of general religious experience being called primary consciousness. Religious experience includes transcendence in the sense of the object of religious experience, without putting the equivalent sign between the Transcendent and the Christian idea of God. This paper aims to examine the characteristics of religious experience, its relationship with other forms of human experience, and its significance in human consciousness and behavior. By examining these aspects, this study intends to contribute to the ongoing dialogue between philosophy and religious studies, offering insights into the enduring relevance of religious experience.

Relevant Aspects of the Purpose of Christian Missions

Relevant Aspects of the Purpose of Christian Missions

Author(s): Nicu Grigore / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

This paper explores the importance of clarifying the purpose of Christian missions in the context of the general concern for the meaning and objectives of religious activities. It emphasizes the necessity of a clear and biblically grounded understanding of missions to prevent deviation from divine objectives tin favor of institutional goals. The diversity of missiological interpretations—ranging from the proclamation of the Gospel and the establishment of justice to cultural adaptation—reflects the complexity of this field. The paper highlights that missions must combine proclamation with good deeds, underlining the importance of prayer and spiritual empowerment in confronting the forces of darkness. Finally, it emphasizes the calling of Christians to be a light in the world, participating in God's mission to bring knowledge, hope, and salvation to all peoples.

Human Dignity, First-Order Factor of Human Personality

Human Dignity, First-Order Factor of Human Personality

Author(s): Emanuel Dobrin / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

The most complex being, man, is defined by an understanding of his dignity. Nothing is more important to humanity than ensuring that dignity is respected. It is dignity that makes man 'truly human', allowing him to manifest himself in complete freedom and express, unhindered, all the capacities and abilities with which he has been endowed or which he has developed. This paper explores various trends in the definition of human dignity and personality, while also examining the concerns of both ancient Greco-Roman and contemporary societies regarding the implementation of guarantees for human dignity in the social sphere, legal system, and interpersonal relationships. Although the exploration is limited, it aims to keep the concept of respect for human dignity at the forefront. This focus is essential, as the world can only be envisioned as a better place when human dignity is respected.

Navigating the Convergence: Science, Belief and the Quest for Truth

Navigating the Convergence: Science, Belief and the Quest for Truth

Author(s): Claudia Matei (Varga) / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

This article aims to discuss certain aspects of the relationship between science, truth, and beliefs, focusing primarily on the scientific activity of the biological and medical sciences and their connection to the notions of truth and belief. The relationship with religions will not be addressed. Science uses specific methods to acquire knowledge, and philosophers have analyzed how this scientific knowledge was acquired, trying to specify the approaches and establish some general rules. Some radical theorists have challenged the value of the scientific method, despite the undeniable success of science. Although it is rational, science is not free from belief, which can have a positive or negative impact on the acquisition of scientific knowledge and on the idea of human nature.
