Političnost umetnosti: slučaj Srbije

Političnost umetnosti: slučaj Srbije

Author(s): Jelena Đorđević / Language(s): Serbian Publication Year: 0

Until the middle of the 20th century, art was considered to be a distinctive, isolated autonomous structure, parallel to other fields of society, such as economy and politics, but in paradoxical relation to the social reality. The so called cultural turn that marked the second part of the last century positioned art at the very core of the social, cultural, economic and political, local and global changes and currents. This questioned the very notion of art that from then until today was replaced by the notion of artistic practices. The notion of autonomy was put under the question and the stress was put on the close relationship between art and politics. In other words, politics became an inherent part of any artistic practice. This turn is not simple and abrupt, so that we can follow its development from high modernism, through postmodernism to contemporary art. This article examines modalities of art/politics relationships focusing on their forms in artistic practices in post-socialist Serbia.

Miłe martwe dziewczyny. Seksualność, religia i polityka w sztuce współczesnej

Author(s): Ewa Wróblewska-Trochimiuk / Language(s): Polish Publication Year: 0

Music on the Wrong Side of Art

Music on the Wrong Side of Art

Author(s): Goranka Stanić / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

Music and dance follow human development. The beginnings of music spontaneously hit various kinds of behaving that accompanied free movement (dance) within the community. In addition to relaxation and enjoyment, music has often been used in some undesirable behavior forms by today's standards. Music encourages soldiers to raise the morale and willingness of the army to win. This act intimidated opponents—the first example of using musical instruments in the best-selling Christian book of the Bible (Jericho). Today, music is wide-ranging and classified into different categories; this happens freely in other performers who may encounter hate speech. Music is used as a means of provoking and intimidating certain target groups. Depending on the country and the area, we come across numerous music examples on the "wrong side." The examination refers to how to use music that should inspire and raise the values of human beings in a strange way that causes fear, panic, hiding, discrimination in some groups. These people are primarily in the minority: nationality, religion, skin color, sexual orientation, or any other isolation and mockingly aggressive attitude towards selected people. Music began to use for ideological purposes during the French Revolution, and this firefighting practice spread to Europe in the 19th century. Music by manipulation became the music of hatred towards differents and others. Beautiful and sublime, placed in the proper context, music can evoke strong emotions. The desired effect is achieved by the synergy of music and text, its persistent appearance within a particular ideology, and asocial.

MomentUM kosmopolitní modernity

Author(s): Milan Kreuzzieger,Jana Horáková / Language(s): Czech Publication Year: 0

Author(s): Tereza Krementáková / Language(s): Czech Publication Year: 0

Art vs. Product

Art vs. Product

Author(s): Goranka Stanićst,Sandra Bačić,Branka Kožuh / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

We are witnessing the development and opening of an increasing number of art schools and colleges. The curriculum covered by these organizations is versatile and comprehensive encompassing various emerging branches. However, a fundamental question arises: can inspired works of art be created when they are dictated by market demands and order, and to what extent mediocrity and kitsch are involved in such a process? Commercialism, pop, and marketing are susceptible areas when we talk about creation. The pandemic and the lockdown provided a unique opportunity to think, envision the future, and express our ideas. Art in the field of the market is looking for its place. Education needs to be directed and distracted from the automatic repetition of facts by increasing the level of "general culture" and encouraging pupils and students to focus on problem-solving so that they can use all available materials and resources. This kind of education enables the development of innovation rather than the complete repetition of facts. Nowadays, various media platforms and libraries inundate society with ideas and information. Progressing personally and contributing to society requires hard work. History represents the past, while homology teaches us how to upgrade and shape knowledge, but if we get stuck learning, we risk perpetuating old patterns through imitation. Therefore, it is crucial to look ahead, address problems and facilitate the enrichment of humanity's collective experience while upholding ethical principles and moral imperatives. This article emphasizes that art has a special place in this dynamic world.

Author(s): Jana Horáková,Monika Szűcsová / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

This chapter contains a selection of concepts crucial for understanding the conceptual and theoretical background of contemporary curatorial practice conducted online, with a sensitivity to the specificities of digital and networked media (Digital Curating). In turn, it serves as a basis for theoretical reflection on using artificial intelligence (machine learning) in curatorial projects focused on processing digitized art collections or experimenting with AI as a new medium in digital art (AI Curating). This chapter aims to provide a basic understanding of the current discussion on digital media curation by defining the terms used in this publication.
