Les frontières de l'humour : comment les franchir pour obtenir le même effet dans la version traduite ?

Les frontières de l'humour : comment les franchir pour obtenir le même effet dans la version traduite ?

Author(s): Anda-Irina Radulescu / Language(s): French Publication Year: 0

Using the particular case of the translation of Frédéric Dard's novel « Les morues se dessalent » into Romanian, we try to see how the translator Marie-Jeanne Vasiloiu has managed to overcome the obstacles of transferring this author’s humor into Romanian, as he played on and with language, invented, distorted and renewed the French language, and thus rendered the thriller a playful form. She managed to play his game and found inspired translation solutions although this writer is not easily exportable, even when the languages are close and have a common origin, such as French and Romanian.

Traductrices, traducteurs : sommes-nous une frontière ? Sommes-nous une membrane ?

Traductrices, traducteurs : sommes-nous une frontière ? Sommes-nous une membrane ?

Author(s): Fabio Regattin / Language(s): French Publication Year: 0

The conceptual metaphor that sees translation as “border crossing” is so widespread that nowadays it hardly appears as a metaphor: it has become a commonsensical notion. Our contribution tries to question it by exploring a number of interdisciplinary approaches, which draw parallels – more or less metaphorical ones – between culture and biology. We will analyze, within these different approaches, the notion of border/limit, in order to show an alternative that seems more apt to capture the complexity of translation – the notion of membrane.

Translation of arbitral awards in the procedure for the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards. Conditions and assumptions

Translation of arbitral awards in the procedure for the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards. Conditions and assumptions

Author(s): Crenguţa Leaua,Radu-Mihai Necula / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

The purpose of the article is to examine the manner in which the regulation of the applicant's ability to submit a certified translation for compliance with a foreign arbitral award responds to the legislative desire to facilitate the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards in Romania. It is approached the hypothesis in which the defendant disputes the accuracy of the translation or the court ex officio considers that the translation submitted to the case file presents certain ambiguities. In this case, the question arises as to whether it is necessary to file a translation by a certified translator in the case file or whether it is sufficient in that case to submit a translation by a party. The article also examines whether or not the provisions of the Code of Civil Procedure are more favorable or unfavorable than the provisions of the New York Convention (1958) with regard to the translation of foreign arbitration awards.

Między niepełnosprawnością a przekładem. Osoby niepełnosprawne jako twórcy i odbiorcy przekładu

Author(s): Wojciech Figiel / Language(s): Polish Publication Year: 0

This paper deals with the relations between the phenomena of disability and translation studies. Translation studies and disability studies are relatively new fields, which up until recently had little in common. However, for more than a dozen years now, scholars of translation have focused on research concerning access services for people with disabilities. These services include, among others, audio description, sign language interpretation and subtitles for the deaf and the hard of hearing. However, there is not too much research concerning people with disabilities as creators, and not recipients, of translation. There is also a lack of translation scholars with disabilities. The interdisciplinary perspective of sociology of translation and disability studies may help to bridge this gap by providing a more inclusive approach to studies on translation.

Parémies roumaines formées à partir d'un nom de peuple – quelle stratégie de traduction ?

Parémies roumaines formées à partir d'un nom de peuple – quelle stratégie de traduction ?

Author(s): Anda Rădulescu / Language(s): French Publication Year: 0

Apart from a common core, i.e. universals, which sums up the life experience and the wisdom of several communities, proverbs also circulate prejudices and specific stereotypes characterizing one particular ethnic group. The transfer of their embedded meaning into the target lingua culture is rather difficult, not only because of the linguistic constraints of the target language, but also because of different representations in comparison to the source language.

La traducción como exégesis implícita: observaciones sobre la traducción al francés de los almanaques de Julio Cortázar

La traducción como exégesis implícita: observaciones sobre la traducción al francés de los almanaques de Julio Cortázar

Author(s): Ilinca Ilian Ţăranu / Language(s): Spanish Publication Year: 0

The work of Julio Cortázar has received an astonishing recognition in France and this owes a lot to the quality of its translation into French. Laure Guille-Bataillon is signing the majority of Cortázar’s French translations, in such a way that the Argentinian author’s work has been always linked by French readers to the name of his great translator. Our remarks in this survey concern the implicit exegesis followed by Laure Guille-Bataillon, while the translator is selecting Cortazar texts from his patchwork-book ”La vuelta al día en ochenta mundos” (1967) and ”Último Round” (1969) in order to create a new book in French, called ”Le tour du jour en quatre-vingt mondes” (1980).

L'univers culinaire roumain sous la plume de Radu Anton Roman et de ses traducteurs

L'univers culinaire roumain sous la plume de Radu Anton Roman et de ses traducteurs

Author(s): Ana Coiug / Language(s): French Publication Year: 0

The article proposes a comparative view over the treatment applied to Romanian cuisine terms in two translations of a book by Radu Anton Roman, journalist and writer fond of gastronomy. Marily le Nïr and Alistair Ian Blyth used sometimes similar, sometimes different means to render the names of dishes, ingredients, tools, measure units or Romanian traditions. Their work is successful, but the connotations of some words prove that absolute equivalence of terms remains illusory.

Les traducteurs dans la littérature québécoise

Les traducteurs dans la littérature québécoise

Author(s): Jean Delisle / Language(s): French Publication Year: 0

Duch odnowy soborowej a współczesne tendencje w polskich przekładach Pisma Świętego (aspekty filologiczne)

Author(s): Danuta Bieńkowska,Stanisław Koziara / Language(s): Polish Publication Year: 0

The article attempts to show the influence of the thoughts of the Second Vatican Council on the philological aspects of contemporary translations of the Holy Scriptures into Polish. The council's instructions aimed at searching for new methods and ways of bringing the inspired word to the faithful were reflected in the qualitative changes taking place in the field of the language and style of Polish post-war translations of the Holy Scriptures. The shape of the contemporary language of post-war biblical translations is the result of a compromise between centuries-old experiences and the tradition of the biblical Polish language and the challenges of modern times.

Onomastyka biblijnych tekstów przekładowych jako problem badawczy

Author(s): Maria Kamińska / Language(s): Polish Publication Year: 0

The aim of the article is to outline some problems of the contextual treatment of the nomen proprium, taking into account, on the one hand, the surroundings of the name, and on the other, the relation to the text constituting the basis for the translation. The author points out, inter alia, on the difference between the nomen proprium and a common word, on the origin of names, their etymology and the related issue of translating proper names. She draws attention to a variety of adaptation measures that bring the name closer to the Polish recipient and the attitude towards translation tradition.
