In the last academic year (2017/2018), the Institute of Musicology of The John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin celebrated an important Jubilee. To read your own self while reading Homer’s Odyssey, Plato’s Phaedo, Herodotus’ Histories, this was the main goal of the seminar, much more important than to simply learn something about Homer, Plato, or Herodotus. This first volume of a forthcoming series situates prof. Bogdan Bogdanov among his favorite ancient authors. Not only the topic but also the form of this book is in a way ancient: somebody has been speaking and somebody has recorded his words. Yet, there is a difference. Socrates and Epictetus had not written a word while Prof. Bogdanov was a writing person. The seminars in NBU for a period of 6-7 years were a workshop for three of Bogdan Bogdanov’s books.
