Instrumentacja El amor brujo Manuela de Falli

Instrumentacja El amor brujo Manuela de Falli

Author(s): Andżelika Jędrzejczyk / Language(s): Polish Issue: 04 (27)/2015

Manuel de Falla was one of the greatest Spanish composers of the first half of the 20th century. He created just a few orchestral works, chamber music and music for the piano and voice and the piano. In his works, impressionistic sensibility is combined with the Iberian spontaneity, which added individual character to his compositions. What certainly deserves special attention is the ballet El amor brujo (The Bewitched Love), whose instrumentation is the subject of this article. Instrumentation in El amor brujo plays a crucial role in shaping of the work. The composer combines classic and modernist elements. First of all, the limited number of musicians in the orchestra - a single cast brass and string quintet reminiscent of early classical orchestra. However, the assignment of subjects mainly to wind instruments refers to the Romanticism. At the same time however, de Falla assimilates achievements of orchestral impressionism, such as the use of the piano and a wide range of strings articulations. In addition, we note de Falla's penchant for exploiting small-ensemble as opposed to neoromantic tendency to use great orchestral compositions, therefore, the full cast works, together with bells, which is heard only through three-bar Final. The treatment of the orchestra on the principle of gradation of sounds and numerous references to the guitar texture in strings and piano parts are essential features of Spanish folk music, and are present in all the works of Manuel de Falla.

The Transformation of Local Society in the 20th Century in the Light of Dancing Practice: The Case of the Kóny Verbunk

Author(s): Ágnes Eitler / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2019

During the twentieth century, the male dance verbunk in the village of Kóny, initially performed in traditional lad societies as part of the local heritage, became a staged attraction. Between the two world wars, the Kóny verbunk was performed in the village as a representation practice of the lad societies and, as such, besides maintaining the group identity, served to indicate the spatial segregation and social differences within the local community. The decade after the Second World War brought the socio-economic transformation of local society in line with national processes. The relational network on which lad societies had been based was suppressed. In the first half of the 1950s, along with the persisting practice of the lad guilds, the verbunk became increasingly a staged spectacle for the community. At the same time, it should not be ignored that, under the supervision of the local authorities, the phenomenon shifted from the framework of church holidays to the field of political celebrations.

Читалището и опазването на нематериалното културно наследство (Из живота на групите за фолклор в Бистрица и Алино)

Author(s): Stela Nenova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 4/2019

The article represents the folklore groups created in the second half of the 20th century. They allow for the local village tradition (preserved as a living practice of its bearers) to enter the local chitalishte. The analysis of the filed-work research in the villages of Bistritsa (Sofia City Municipality) and Alino (Samokov Region) reveals different aspects of the relation between chitalishte institution and intangible cultural heritage in the changing social and cultural contexts, as well as in relation to the changing cultural policies. Thus the article offers an anthropological point of view to the transmission of traditional knowledge, skills and experience in chitalishte environment.

Интонационни модели на двугласно пеене от с. Брезница, Гоцеделчевско (По материали от съвременната брезнишка попрèлка)

Author(s): Petyo Krastev / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 4/2019

Poprelka in the village of Breznitsa, Gotse Delchev Region is an event deeply related to the tradition as far as its model and content are concerned, but at the same time it represents the contemporary condition of the local culture. This is the place for the performance of the well-preserved, “living” traditional musical folklore in the natural environment. The article is an attempt to typologize the intonational models of women two-part singing in Breznitsa, which is interesting because of the still existing specifics of the ancient musical thinking in the present. The scholarly research on which the article is based was provoked by fieldwork observation allowing for the accumulation of detailed knowledge about the processes of development and change thus functioning as a key to the understanding of the immanent specifics of the traditional Bulgarian culture.

Изкуството на Кандински и пътят към Експресионизма

Author(s): Krista Kirova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 5/2018

Kandinsky's work, his achievements in the search for new means of expression in painting and, in a broader sense, a new understanding of art, may seem strange, unbalanced and groundless even today. But with Kandinsky, as with any artist, we find prerequisites for this in his biography. Childhood and adolescence leave an imprint on his work. In his young years, along with his innate talent, he builds inner motivation and gains a stimulus for creativity.

Expressionism, cradled by Germany, flourished during the so-called "Expressionist Decade" (1910-1920). Its most common socio-cultural precondition is the crisis in the public and moral-ethical consciousness on the eve and during the First World War. It expresses the will to change a generation that grew up with the nightmares of war and the deepening decline of bourgeois-philistine consciousness. Like most modernist trends in art, expressionism uses the provocation of "good taste," the breaking of outdated traditional orders and aesthetic habits. The meaning of the term is derived from "expression" - an expression of feelings, which in the most general sense is the artist's desire to project the torments of his own soul on the depicted object.

„Цаката била в кацата…“ или как градският шлагер преживя социализма

Author(s): Anton Angelov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2020

Between the mid-1940s and the late 1950s the centralization and ideologization of culture marginalized the schlager-song practice from pre-socialist times. Performing and listening to this musical genre was recognized by the authorities as a relic of the bourgeois past and was at the same time regarded as non-aesthetic by the professional composers. In the 1960s the generational change and the penetration of the new modern Western popular culture in Bulgaria altered the focus of the institutions of the regime. The old-fashioned pre-war schlager lost its political incorrectness to a significant extent and gradually became a convenient instrument in the hands of the institutions thus allowing to cover the attention of the elderly generations.

Стрийминг и запознанства: любов по време на Netflix

Author(s): Aneliya Alexandrova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 8/2020

In a world in which the internet not only dictates the dynamics of everyday life but also leads people into new, previously impossible experiences, we can now see a significant change in the way we consume entertainment on our screens. Streaming services are fast becoming a meaningful part of our social interactions. They can alter us, not just our consumer habits, but through popular programming, our perceptions too. As part of my broader area of study on online dating, which in itself is another phenomenon of the digital era, I was interested in examining possible connections, influences and further interpretations. What image of love do we get through media? How do dating looks like on screen nowadays? Through analyzing some dating shows on Netflix, I have attempted to contour a portrait of a modern-day search for love.

A non-representative survey on the attitudes of consumers towards music events in the country and the channels through which they are informed about concerts was conducted by Anna Nikolova less than a month before the declaration of a state of emergency in Bulgaria (due to COVID-19). The analysis of the results of the online survey "How do you know about your favorite concerts?", filled in by over 300 Bulgarians between January 27, 2020, and February 21, 2020, sets an interesting temporary picture of the way consumers in the country are informed about upcoming music events.

Дигитално присъствие на БНТ и БНР в социалните мрежи: революция или еволюция?

Author(s): Ivelina Georgieva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 8/2020

The aim of this text is to encompass and analyze how the Bulgarian national television and the Bulgarian national radio use different social media platforms. The main thesis is that the two media are working hard on their active digital presence to stand out as information leaders with high public trust not only on television and radio but also online. BNT and BNR as the largest public media in our country also give a good perspective on how the Bulgarian media environment is developing online. For a long time now, this has included not only the media's websites, but also its full adaptation in the field of social networks where the user and his interests are most important.

Университетски практики за създаване на студентски подкаст

Университетски практики за създаване на студентски подкаст

Author(s): Stela Angova,Ivan Valchanov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 8/2020

The study aims to identify university practices for creating a student podcast. The hypothesis is that there is a paradigm shift, but not a rejection, regarding the first steps of students in journalism and they rather attempt producing podcasts than creating a newspaper. The knowledge for creating print media products is upgraded through all media elements and digital communication strategies. This results in a real multimedia practice consisting of generating ideas, teamwork, script writing, editing, recording, publishing in online platforms and social media promotion. Empirical material has been collected from American, Australian, Western European, and Bulgarian universities. The case studies seek to discover the reasons for the increased interest in podcasts as a modern audio format. The study aims to outline the main characteristics of a successful student podcast and to examine the tendencies for production and listening to podcasts among the younger audience.

Safeguarding cultural-historical heritage is of key importance for the preservation of national identity. The Bulgarian school has always been one of the main pillars in this process.
