Using AHP Method for Making a Decision on How the Management of Sewage Sludge in the Northern Croatia

Author(s): Vesna Dušak,Lovorka Gotal Dmitrović,Renata Bagnall / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2017

By 2018, in Croatia, the agglomerations for collecting the sewage and water treatment systems are going to be constructed. All devices will be based on the mechanical-biological method of purification. However, the work of water treatment system produces a problem of sludge management. The paper presents the challenges of wastewater sludge handling and makes a decision on further sludge management. The hierarchical model of the decision making problem by defining the goal, criteria and alternative solutions is developed. On each level of the hierarchical model the elements of the model are compared with each other in pairs, and the preferences are expressed by using the Saaty’s scale. Moreover, the APH model compares the alternative pairs (thermal processing, deposition on agricultural land, disposal to waste repositories and composting) among each others. The intensities and weight preferences of one alternative over another are selected within the required criteria (economic, environmental, organisational and sociological).

Ruchy miejskie: konflikt jako strategia rozwiązywania problemów społecznych miasta

Ruchy miejskie: konflikt jako strategia rozwiązywania problemów społecznych miasta

Author(s): Justyna Tomczyk / Language(s): Polish Issue: 2/2017

Basing on the sociological theory of conflict, the article presents the significance, roles and functions of civic movements in the process of articulating and solving social problems which emerge in the city and concern its inhabitants. The use of the conflict approach has double justification. Firstly, the city is treated (following D. Harvey) as an area of conflicts and tensions that have economic and social class roots. Secondly, civic movements are understood (following Touraine) as a manifestation of a social conflict, consisting in the division of society into two opposing groups, disunited by the subject of the fight over which they try to take control. The constitutive feature of this conflict is the fact that it refers to real (organised) social actors and is directed at the articulation and realisation of interests of the urban community. The conflict activates inhabitants as it is a form of a civic participation, a tool of change and modernisation, an instrument of transformations within the urban structure and culture.

Уголовно-наказуемое загрязнение вод: понятие и вопросы квалификации

Author(s): A. Yu. Bokovnia / Language(s): Russian Issue: 2/2018

The composition of water pollution sources according to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation has been investigated. The greatest vulnerability of the aquatic environment from all components of the ecosystem has been noted. The objective and subjective signs of water pollution according to the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation have been analyzed. Taking into account the analysis of normative legal materials, legal practice, and literature, promising theoretical conclusions and proposals on improving the regulation of criminal liability for water pollution in the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation have been substantiated. Differentiation of criminal responsibility depending on the forms of guilt, providing for pollution of water bodies by not being careful in a separate article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation or in certain parts of articles 250-252 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, has been recognized as promising. It has been also proposed to supplement article 250 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, with part four, which should provide for a stricter sanction for water pollution resulting in the death of two or more persons by negligence. The qualification of water pollution, its delimitation from other related offenses have been performed.

ECOFEMINISM AND ENVIRONMENTAL SECURITY

Author(s): Ana Batrićević,Nikola Paunović / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2019

Having in mind climate change as well as the rising risk of potential environmental crisis caused by pollution and unsustainable exploitation of natural resources, the concept of environmental security, primarily defined as the resilience of countries and individuals to the challenges of environmental degradation, is rapidly obtaining the interest of general public and experts from various scientific disciplines. However, it seems that the gender aspect of security in general and particularly of environmental security has not been given the amount of attention it deserves until recently. Thanks to the ecofeminist movement, based on the idea that women are more closely related to nature than men and more vulnerable and susceptible to the negative impacts of environmental degradation (especially those emerging as the consequences of pollution and climate change), the role of women in the improvement of environmental security through participation in decision-making processes in legislation and public policy making is finally being recognised. The aim of this paper is to analyse the modern concept of environmental security as well as the evolution and contemporary discourses within ecofeminist movements and to explain the link between them, i.e., the contribution of ecofeminism to the shift in the approach to environmental security in the sense of taking into consideration the rights and interests of women as more common victims of negative environmental impacts as well as their potentials as relevant stake holders in this field.

FARKLI DEPREM DOĞRULTULARININ ORTOGONAL BETONARME YAPI ÜZERİNDEKİ ETKİSİ

Author(s): Fatih Malkoç / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 43/2019

In recent earthquakes, there has been a significant field evidence that the collapse of existing structures is due to the effect of the vertical component of the seismic ground motions. Such field evidence has been not supported by comprehensive analytical and experimental testing yet. This study focuses on the preliminary analysis of the seismic response of reinforced concrete elements exposed to horizontal and vertical ground motions. In this research, the vertical earthquake effect was investigated on two reinforced concrete buildings with 3 stories and 7 stories. In this analysis, seven earthquake recordings were used to cover a wide verticalhorizontal spectral ratio. The selected structural parameters are nodal displacements, axial forces and shear forces. Using the SeismoStruct program, first the earthquake effect examined on two dimensions (x,y) and then three dimensional (x,y,z) and the results were controled comparatively. The results show that although the structure does not significantly affect the displacement and shear forces response, the multicomponent effect of earthquakes has a significant effect on the forces of building columns.
