Emberi tényező? Az antropocén-narratíva kritikája

Emberi tényező? Az antropocén-narratíva kritikája

Author(s): Alf Hornborg,Andreas Malm / Language(s): Hungarian Issue: 25/2019

The Anthropocene narrative portrays humanity as a species ascending to power over the rest of the Earth System. In the crucial field of climate change, this entails the attribution of fossil fuel combustion to properties acquired during human evolution, notably the ability to manipulate fire. But the fossil economy was not created nor is it upheld by humankind in general. This intervention questions the use of the species category in the Anthropocene narrative and argues that it is analytically flawed, as well as inimical to action. Intra-species inequalities are part and parcel of the current ecological crisis and cannot be ignored in attempts to understand it.

Gombafonallal szőtt esszék az értékmentő felhalmozásról (Anna Tsing: The Mushroom at the End of the World)

Author(s): Alexandra Czeglédi / Language(s): Hungarian Issue: 25/2019

Anna Lowenhaupt Tsing's book entitled "The Mushroom at the End of the World" could be read from the semi-periphery of the global capital. The supply chains of an Eastern Hungarian mushroom-business leads us to Tsing's book, to the author’s concept of salvage accumulation. By introducing salvage accumulation, Tsing means the process of value creation when it occurs without established control system of capitalism, like as it is managed in factories. Raw materials (coal and oil) are annexed by capital, within the outside sphere of capitalism, which independently occur in nature. This value-saving process, in this way, refers to the capital accumulation which does not depend on controlled conditions of capitalism. Commodification, thus, does not take place on factories’ conveyor belt, rather outside of the social structure, deep in the middle of forests (2015: 62-63). Natural resources were already present before human existence, and reproduce even after the extinction of human species. Although Tsing's book might be a valid critique of David Harvey's accumulation by dispossession, the concept of the reverse primitive accumulation coined by Kalyan Sanyal seems essential for mapping the complexity of capitalism. The reversal of capital accumulation is a political tool which legitimises exploitative processes of capitalism.

A történettudomány válsága és haszna az antropocén témák tükrében: egyenlőtlenség, hatalom, világrendszer, ellenállás és deep history (Bonneuil és Fressoz: The Shock of the Anthropocene; Lewis és Maslin: The Human Planet)

Author(s): Róbert Balogh / Language(s): Hungarian Issue: 25/2019

The importance of the books reviewed here lies in their ability to go beyond the Anthropocene versus Capitalocene debate and in describing a framework of notions that lead to the conclusion that the adequate response to the risks that global biophysical changes bring about is a new mode of living replacing the current form of consumer capitalism. The authors of the two books are two ecologists and two historians. Their arguments converge on the point that if we live in the Anthropocene, then the academic response to this condition is a critical theory that includes a new narrative about human history and analysis of the processes that brought about the current condition and that need to be changed. The new ground that the volumes break makes it possible to hypothesize that historiography may overcome its decades-long crisis as a result of increasing sensitivity to socio-natural phenomena and interaction with biological sciences.

Podniesienie poziomu standardów bezpieczeństwa z wykorzystaniem zunifikowanych norm certyfikacji na przykładzie zachodniopomorskich marin żeglarskich

Author(s): Tomasz Zalewski,Magdalena Bulikowska / Language(s): Polish Issue: 37/2018

The article is an attempt to answer the question whether the quality marks, generally perceived as very important for a given product, have an impact on safety issues in the water industry. It has been verified whether known and applied certification systems for harbors and marinas contain safety elements of the marina and its visitors, and if so, what is their level. T he article compares the most known certification systems for marinas around the world, paying special attention to safety issues – diagnosing their level from the point of view of those visiting in a given facility. Both the procedure of obtaining the certificate and the inclusion of the safety issue and the manner of displaying the certificate were analyzed. I n the course of the analysis of the data obtained and the presentation of applications, it has been proved that modern marina certification systems treat security issues seriously and at a high level, and the mere possession of a certificate positively affects the awareness of persons staying at a given facility.

Author(s): Amitava Basu / Language(s): English Issue: 02/2021

Novel corona virus pandemic has placed the slum dwellers at high risk. This necessitates re-development of slums. This paper discusses the priority for slum re-development under Smart City Program, and the way forward in India. Prior Work: A study was carried out on early lessons from public administration measures to address the corona pandemic in India. This paper is based on a research following the earlier study. Approach: The process involved – (a) Study and analyze health survey reports of various municipalities; (b) Sample field surveys; (c) Discussions with limited number of municipal officials; and (d) Comparative analysis of other similar studies. Results: Slums are characterized by congested space, lack of adequate water supply, unhygienic sanitation conditions. Almost 8 to 10 persons live in a cramped space. Majority of the slum dwellers are daily wage earners and poor. Congested space and insufficient water do not allow social distancing and hand wash, which are essential to fight novel corona virus infection. Further, exposure outside home for daily earning makes the slum dwellers vulnerable to corona infection. Dharavi slum of Mumbai metropolitan in India, and some of the informal settlements of New York are unique examples. To address the present pandemic and improve the quality of life of the slum residents, re-development of slums and local economic development assume significance. It calls for re-oriented approach in urban planning, infrastructure development and creation of local employment opportunities under Smart City program. Implications: (a) Urban planners need to research for effective redevelopment of slums, and (b) Practitioners require to be familiarized with the urgent need to improve slums and are provided with options to re-orient area-based development as part of Smart City. Value: The study findings are relevant for most developing countries. It provides a way forward in redefine the priorities of “Smart Cities”.

The SO programs organizers will face unknown so far issues in terms of security and safety. Aim: The aim of the study is to explore the influence of new safety and security events protocols of Special Olympics on the mission and particularly on the athletes. Methods: We applied documentary analysis including theoretical-logical analysis, systematic approach (structural-functional, structural-component and structural-integral aspect), comparative analysis, video analysis, field notes and focus group composed by participants in pervious SO World games (delegation leaders, coaches and parents). Results: The results of our research shows that most of the national SO programs are reporting that the pandemic have a devastating impact on the athletes and the movement in general. The new live reality is affecting not only the daily routines of athletes with intellectual disabilities but also their social interaction in terms of communication and emotional functioning. Author(s): Yoni Petrovska / Language(s): English Issue: 4s/2021

The professional activity of the employees in the Special Home for Temporary Accommodation of Foreigners at the Migration Directorate is closely related to their physical, combat, applied preparation, etc. Priority among specialized knowledge and skills is given to physical fitness. The characteristics of the activity show that the successful completion of the various tasks requires the performers to have appropriate motor skills. They are demonstrated as a system of meaningful and purposeful simple or complex movements, which are evaluated based on specific actions. Due to the specifics of the tasks to be solved, professional preparation is necessary. The purpose of the study is to establish the physical fitness of employees in junior executive positions. To assess and establish the level of physical fitness, a sports pedagogical test was conducted with 90 employees with an average age of42.8 years. The attached test battery includes four tests approved by the Ministry of Interior. Analysis of motor test results in terms of speed, coordination, and endurance are lower in the assessment. This fact gives us reason to believe that in practice not enough purposeful work is done to develop the strength of the lower limbs and endurance.

Author(s): Stamen Kanev / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 4/2021

Suchcalamities are predetermined by the historical and cultural background of the specific affected area and its inhabitants, which form the model and the degree of vulnerability –geographical location, infrastructure development and the level of productivity. The article studies the quality of life after the flood in Varna’s Asparuhovo district and its complex consequences, reflecting at the same time on the attitude of the locals towards various aspects of life, as well as the public health of the people in the affected area. This research presents the different viewpoints of locals, who ponder upon the changes in their lives six years after the flood of 2014. The acquired conclusions can serve both researchers and institutions for the evaluation of the strategies applied in the overcoming of the crisis, and to create new, if necessary,as well as the proper allocation of funds, socio-political reorganization and so forth.

WHAT IS THE SCIENCE OF COMMUNICATION? A POSSIBLE DEFINITION

Author(s): Arthur Suciu / Language(s): English Issue: 16/2021

The article’s aim is to provide a definition of the science of communication together with the delimitation of the field of research and the identification of a general research method. The starting point is the general phenomenon of communication in the living world, as the research field of communication science is limited, by successive delimitations, to media discourses. The most important aspect that has been highlighted is the political nature of media speeches. Politics de-homogenizes the discursive mass and at the sometime provides a clear criterion for classifying discourses. Thus, insofar as communication is media-based, it is also a political communication. The science of communication is defined as the study of the phenomenon of integration and discursive distancing, in other words of the discursive competition and social negotiation. The starting point of the entire process of definition is the work“ Autonomous Discourse. Communication Strategies”(2013).

Author(s): Joshua Olusegun Fayomi,Abdulkadir Sani / Language(s): English Issue: 01/2022

Virtual workplace adoption has created many challenges as well as excellent opportunities for organizations. The purpose of this study is to implement a business digitalization strategy so that micro, small and medium enterprises intending to adopt virtual workplace can use as guidelines. To help managers address this challenge more systematically, we describe how organizations successfully adopt virtual workplace in smart cities. Most existing studies examined the role of virtual workplace on business performance and worker productivity. We focus specifically on the implementation strategies as the under‐researched areas of academic inquiry. We adapted the 11 strategic questions from the study of Hess, Matt, Benlian and Wiesböck and provide possible answers from various relevant studies, so mangers can use as guidelines when formulating a virtual workplace strategy.A survey of the literature was conducted and relevant study results providing the implementation guidelines for adopting the virtual workplace are presented. Findings from the research can help managers better understand the successful implementation of the virtual workplace. Because transforming traditional workplace into virtual workplace brings challenges and as well as opportunities, it is important for managers to understand them completely in order to eliminate the risks and increase the favorable effects.
