Patriotismus in der Familie: Wert oder Identität Eine auf Forschungen der polnischen Mission in Deutschland basierte Studie

Author(s): Ireneusz Celary,Jan Kazimierz Przybyłowski / Language(s): English,German Issue: 10/2020

Author(s): Alper Karasoy / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 1/2021

This study examines the impacts of income, energy consumption, financial development, globalization (economic, trade, and financial globalization), industrialization, and urbanization on Turkey’s ecological footprint (EF) in the context of the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis via the augmented autoregressive distributed lag (augmented ARDL) bounds testing approach for the period 1980-2016. The findings of this research are as follows: (i) the EKC hypothesis is not valid in Turkey, (ii) energy consumption intensifies EF in the short-run, (iii) industrialization and urbanization increase environmental degradation, (iv) globalization -including its economic, trade, and financial dimensions- negatively affects EF in the long-run, (v) financial development deteriorates EF in the short-run. Based on these findings, alternative policy recommendations are made.

Empirical Study on the Effects of the Application of Virtual Reality to Experiential Education on Students’ Learning Attitude and Learning Effectiveness

Empirical Study on the Effects of the Application of Virtual Reality to Experiential Education on Students’ Learning Attitude and Learning Effectiveness

Author(s): Lingke KONG / Language(s): English Issue: 73/2021

Along with the change in social environment, a lot of families ignore the parenting styles to result in weak empathy of students, who simply see others’ faults but ignore personal responsibilities. In the experiential education process, the guides encourage students to seek for answers by themselves, allowing students presenting sense of participation and sense of accomplishment. Nevertheless, it requires more research to prove whether experiential education activity could enhance students’ learning effectiveness. Apply experimental design model to the quasi-experimental study, total 198 students in Jiangsu, as the research objects, are precede the 16-week (3 hours per week for total 48 hours) experimental teaching. The research results are summarized as following. 1. Applying virtual reality to experiential education with teams, students reveal good interaction with peers and receive honor and affirmation in the group. The learning attitude and motivation are therefore positive. 2. Applying virtual reality to experiential education activity for team tasks and peers interaction, students present the ability to organize and execute action processes to achieve specific achievement belief and achieve the objectives with the application of virtual reality to experiential education. 3. Students favoring the application of virtual reality to experiential education would engage in the group and regard it as the model to change the behaviors. In this case, students participating in virtual reality applied experiential education appear significantly positive correlations between learning attitude and learning effectiveness. According to the results to propose suggestions, it is expected to more effectively integrate teachers or adjust the directions of teaching strategies to effectively provide the effort direction for students’ learning needs.

Modelling Natural Capital: A Proposal for a Mixed Multi-criteria Approach to Assign Management Priorities to Ecosystem Services

Modelling Natural Capital: A Proposal for a Mixed Multi-criteria Approach to Assign Management Priorities to Ecosystem Services

Author(s): Mónica de Castro Pardo,Pascual Fernández Martínez,José Manuel Guaita Martínez,José María Martín Martín / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2020

Investment in natural capital is increasingly necessary and urgent considering the increasing loss of global biodiversity and the associated social and economic losses. Ecosystem services are tools for quantifying the stock of natural capital and there is great concern about their assessment and valuation. However, there remains a substantial gap between the large amount of information available about ecosystem services and the information required to support decisions and this undermines the efficiency of their management. Multi-criteria analysis techniques can be very useful to efficiently develop decision-making processes to properly channel investment and optimize the costs associated with conservation. This paper proposes an innovative mixed methodology for multi-criteria analysis to assign priorities to ecosystem services in protected areas in terms of importance and vulnerability. The model was applied by a group of experts to prioritize 20 ecosystem services in the Ordesa and Monte Perdido National Park. In order to collect and analyze the individual valuations, a mixed method of Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Goal Programming (GP) was used, and to aggregate the valuation criteria, a Joint Relevance Index (JRI) was used, which presents the relative importance of each service in an aggregated way. The results show that conservation policies should be primarily directed towards lifecycle maintenance and water conditions. Depending on the vulnerability of the services, conservation policies should be channeled towards provisioning services related to wild animals and wild plants. Considering the relative importance of services in the park, priority should be oriented to lifecycle maintenance, water conditions and intellectual interaction with the environment.

The Relationship Between Consumer Behaviour, Attitudes and Acceptance of Public Policy Tools Advancing Sustainable Food Consumption

The Relationship Between Consumer Behaviour, Attitudes and Acceptance of Public Policy Tools Advancing Sustainable Food Consumption

Author(s): Anna Wielicka-Regulska / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2020

Research background: The great importance of food consumption for the sustainability of food systems means that active public policy in this area can have a lot of positive effects. Purpose: The purpose of the paper is to present the challenges facing the agri-food sector and to study consumer attitudes towards seasonal and organic food, local food, urban agriculture, food waste and meat consumption, carbon footprints and how these attitudes relate to the acceptance of public policy tools (a tax on junk food, a green public procurement, a deposit on plastic bottles, a tax-free donation of food to public benefit organisations, a fee for wasted food for large retailers) that could transform food distribution and consumption. Research methodology: cardinality tables and interdependence analysis using Pearson’s linear correlation coefficient Results: The study revealed that most respondents buy seasonal food when possible and limit meat consumption to some extent. They are rarely influenced by the impact of food on the climate. Most people are in favour of offering dishes based on local food in public institutions with catering (hospitals, schools, prisons, etc.). Most respondents were negative about gardening for food production. Involvement in local food was associated with a higher acceptance for green public procurement and higher VAT on junk food. Novelty: Both the range of considered policy instruments and the analysis of their acceptance in the context of selected behaviours and attitudes have not been previously studied and make up a new area of inquiry essential in the debate on sustainable food consumption.

Green Marketing: The Environmentally-Friendly Attributes of Products and Decision to Purchase

Green Marketing: The Environmentally-Friendly Attributes of Products and Decision to Purchase

Author(s): Lucyna Witek / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2020

Research background: Currently the degradation of the environment which consumers contribute to is an important problem. Purchase behavior plays a key role as it is associated with the choice of products by consumers who are increasingly taking into account environmentally-friendly criteria. The effective implementation of marketing strategies that take into account the principles of sustainable development is possible under the condition of changes in the behavior of purchasers. Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to analyze the importance of environmentally-friendly attributes for product purchasers. Research methodology: The research was conducted among 650 Polish consumers. An online survey method was applied. Results: The study confirms that environmentally-friendly attributes do not play a primary role while choosing products. Hedonic, health and economic benefits take place before environmental benefits. For women, eco-friendly attributes were more important when choosing products, while men were more driven by economic and functional benefits. Young people are hedonists guided by taste and aesthetics, and they do not pay much attention to the environmentally-friendly attributes of products. In turn, older respondents are economical and pragmatic buyers for whom energy efficiency and product durability are of particular importance. Novelty: The research adds the value as for understanding the phenomenon of the green purchase gap, especially in developing countries where positive attitudes towards green products are not translated into real purchasing behavior. The research quotes some implication for marketing, especially for marketing communication strategies.

Teleologija i evolucija – Aristotel i Hans Jonas u kontekstu ekološke etike

Teleologija i evolucija – Aristotel i Hans Jonas u kontekstu ekološke etike

Author(s): Saša Marinović / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 02/162/2021

Aristotle has interpreted research done by empirical methods using metaphysical concepts extensively. According to some authors, his metaphysically intoned philosophy of biology is compatible with the modern theory of evolution and with some of the essential topics of ecological ethics. We will try to show how the interpretation of the substantial whole, under the aspect of the notion of potentiality, is Aristotle’s contribution to the debates of eco-ethical holism. Furthermore, we will show how Hans Jonas also finds the possibility of valuing the individual organic substance in Aristotle’s works, which are not only representatives of the human species. Hans Jonas pleads for a revision of the modern theory of evolution, which, combined with some of Aristotle’s metaphysical elements, could avoid the reductionism to which it was exposed after Descartes.

THE EVOLUTION OF THE MEDIA OPERATION IN THE CONTEXT OF THE CURENT SECURITY ENVIRONMENT

Author(s): Nicoleta Annemarie Munteanu / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2021

The theoretical conceptualization of the media operation, extremely little discussed by specialists in the military and/or media is an original approach, based on the use of comparative research methods of certain military operations that are relevant to achieving the proposed goal. The identification of the principles for the media operation, practically the conception approach, is the cornerstone that leads to the identification and argumentation, through mixed ways, including progressive, comparative, dialectical and chronological ways of the structures and activities specific to this new type of operation and the factors that determine the transformation of the media operation into media war.

Metodologija trasiranja cikloturističke rute u koridoru napuštene željezničke pruge

Author(s): Goran Kos,Zoran Klarić,Predrag Brlek,Petar Feletar / Language(s): Croatian Issue: 15/2021

Bicyclism has lately become increasingly popular as an activity in which bicycle is used not only as a means of transport, but also as a tourist activity, and a type of recreation useful for human health and considerably environment-friendlier than the use of motor vehicles. This has influenced the process of arranging an ever increasing number of marked and unmarked cyclotourist routes on the existing roads with less traffic in motor vehicles, as well as establishing special bicyclist tracks along the existing roads, and separate bicyclist paths and roads intended for bicyclists only. Particularly popular among them are abandoned railway tracks, which are converted into bicyclist roads, since due to the needs of railway transport, they have relatively gentle slopes. Thus, they are not too demanding for the majority of cyclotourists, whilst their attractiveness lies in the fact that they pass through beautiful landscape. The paper presents the methodology of planning the revitalisation of the abandoned railway track between Bjelovar and Garešnica with a branch line for Grubišno Polje for the needs of developing cyclotourism in the Bjelovar-Bilogora County.

MEHMET KAVUKCU VE FÜSUN ONUR’UN POSTMODERN SANAT YAKLAŞIMLARI

Author(s): Ömer Tayfur Öztürk,Ahmet Türe,Fatma Al / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 84/2021

Postmodernism, a concept created after 1970, refers to the category of artistic production. Postmodernism has emerged with new art forms such as deconstruction. Computer-based artistic productions, new media and conceptual art studies can be given as examples of these production categories. Conceptual art wanted to demolish many things and come to terms with the past. Conceptual art The artist, who made a wholesale criticism of Western culture and rebelled against all kinds of artistic authority and monopoly understanding, started to make art with a thought that he adopted with his heart. In this study, Mehmet Kavukcu, who created his works in the context of conceptual art, and Füsun Onur, one of Turkey's first female sculptors, are discussed. Kavukcu reflects the waste generation, environmental pollution issues that negatively affect natural life, issues such as waste, extravagance, violence, terrorism, death and eternity, nature and the city, historical architecture, climate, refugee problem, city structuring in his works. We see that he buys from the problems he encounters in daily life and from the objects around him to solve these problems. This study aims to give information about the dynamic points and movement capabilities of today's Turkish art. In the research, six works of Mehmet Kavukcu's five Füsun Onur were examined with a critical approach and the thought, essence and form that formed the background of the works were examined.

Species of mammals disappeared from the Fagaras Mountains (Southern Carpathians) and the opportunity of their reintroduction

Species of mammals disappeared from the Fagaras Mountains (Southern Carpathians) and the opportunity of their reintroduction

Author(s): Adrian Mestecăneanu / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2021

The opportunity of the reintroduction of some species of mammals in the Făgăraş Mountains, after that the European bison (Bison bonasus) (Linnaeus, 1758) and the European beaver (Castor fiber) Linnaeus, 1758 reintroduction is already in progress, is analyzed in this paper. It was stated that the bobak marmot (Marmotabobak) (Müller, 1766) and the Saiga antelope (Saiga tatarica) (Linnaeus, 1766) most likely never lived in the area and their reintroduction is, thus, impossible, the Przewalski΄s horse (Equus przewalskii f. gmelini) (Antonius, 1920)and the Mongolian khulan (Equus hemionus hemionus) Pallas, 1775 probably lived in the historical times in the forests and could be reintroduced, but rather in the nearby plain areas, the aurochs (Bos primigenius) Bojanus,1827 existed in the area until a few hundred years ago, but its reintroduction is unfeasible, because, currently, the species is globally extinct, the Alpine ibex (Capra ibex) Linnaeus, 1758 certainly lived here, but its reintroduction depends on the cause and the moment of disappearance, still doubtful, and the elk (Alces alces) Linnaeus, 1758probably survived in the area after 15th century and could be reintroduced, but without the guarantee that it will remain stable in the area.

Societal Progress Indicators and Co-Responsibility for All a Possible Answer to Sustainable Social and Economic Development during the Global Pandemic

Societal Progress Indicators and Co-Responsibility for All a Possible Answer to Sustainable Social and Economic Development during the Global Pandemic

Author(s): Elena Simona Tomozii,Lei Huang / Language(s): English Issue: 76/2022

The aim of this paper is to introduce a pertinent management model for municipalities and relevant groups to support the local communities in dealing with social and economic issues, or as in our case, with the effects of the global pandemic, while promoting sustainable development, through corporate social co-responsibility and efficient allocation and reallocation of resources. SPIRAL Methodology was used to implement exploratory research using the focus group as main research method and ESPOIR software for the statistical analysis. 2275 answers were collected from 198 citizens in Brasov Municipality. The citizens’ answers positively correlate with the social and economic situation, dominated by the effects of the Great Recession. Mostly, well-being through their eyes is related to the working place, purchasing power, education and mental and physical health. Secondly citizens focus on improving their lives and contributing to the society. Lastly, they pay attention to the personal equilibrium. SPIRAL represents a useful tool in supporting governments and local stake holders to identify the pain points, find solutions and locally available resources while, sharing responsibility and successfully overcoming the negative impact of the global pandemic over the economy and society. When comparing the effects SPRIAL methodology had in the communities where it was applied, with the current situation around the world and with the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, we contribute to enriching the management knowledge by providing a comprehensive tool that promotes sustainable development, measures wellbeing and nurtures cooperation and social innovation.

Sacred Water Pools of Hindu Sacredscapes in North India

Sacred Water Pools of Hindu Sacredscapes in North India

Author(s): Rana P.B. Singh,Pravin S. Rana,Sarvesh Kumar / Language(s): English Issue: 44/2021

The basic metaphysical frame of life in ancient India, that of sacred water (paviṭra jala) and the notion that “Water itself is life” (jala hī jivan hai), can be illustrated with case studies of two cities. Settled continuously since 1000 BCE, the cities of Varanasi and Ayodhya have been eulogized as the salvific holy-heritage cities in India known for their ritualscapes associated with sacred waters and pools. According to the ancient treatises and tales, there were fifty-four sacred tanks (kunds) and wells (kūpas) in each of these cities, and they became important sites for purification rituals, pilgrimage, healing and festive celebration by devout Hindus. After providing descriptions of the sacred water pools, this essay in part explores traditions associated with a water-pool sacred to the Sun god in both the cities. More broadly, using ancient texts, present participatory surveys, and ethnological narration, the essay considers the long-lived sacrality of water pools in these holy cities and current development strategies involving them.

Integrating Sustainable Trade Principles in Uzbekistan

Integrating Sustainable Trade Principles in Uzbekistan

Author(s): Anvar Rahmetov,Malika Rakhmetova / Language(s): English Issue: 75/2022

This article is an assessment of the current state of affairs in Uzbekistan’s sustainable development goals (SDG)-related policies. It is based on an analysis of UN compiled data on SDGs, and an overview of Uzbekistan’s key SDG-related strategies, as well as unstructured interviews with a dozen respondents. Desk research suggests that Government’s key SDG priorities remain in export promotion, job creation and increased economic competitiveness. Interviews suggest that sustainability is understood as political and economic stability, economic growth, environmental conservation and rule of law. From the SDG issues, respondents identified SME and female entrepreneur support, employment generation and e-commerce as the ones with the highest priority, while concurring that corruption, monopolies and market distortions, low policy implementation capacity and limited public awareness of sustainability were the greatest obstacles. The greatest strength of Uzbekistan in integrating international trade into SDGs is the current reform momentum. Significantly improved relations with neighbours is another strength, with a window of opportunity to improve on regional trade, transit, connectivity, as well as water management and water-energy nexus. The greatest challenge remains the government’s focus on exports, jobs and investments at the expense of other SDGs, as well as the continuation of the import substitution policies.

Living in “Smart Cities and Green World”

Living in “Smart Cities and Green World”

Author(s): Miranda Harizaj,Arjela NDREU / Language(s): English Issue: 03/2022

Every day we face fast development and technology appliance in each field of industry and our everyday life, with the focus of maximization of its service to people. Therefore, a special importance has been particularly given to the construction of "smart cities". This paper will support the idea of creating and usage a network that connects all the key points of human activities as the basis of a "smart" city, focusing on renewable energy, specifically solar one, to carry out these activities that a person performs throughout a full day. We are based on two features, "smart" and "green", which will include the electricity supply of the apartment and coverage of any of its indoor activities, street lighting, charging of electric cars and education on reducing pollution levels on nature.First of all, we will focus on presenting all the elements of this network, whose basis are photovoltaic modules, then we will introduce the creation of photovoltaic plants based on respective standards for their resistance to wind, with materials that do not pierce existing buildings and do not pollute the environment. Last but not least, based on the evaluation of collected results we recommend the effective ways of using photovoltaic systems in open spaces. We can mention lots of benefits by living in smart cities and green world, but most important would be the fact that we are going eco-friendly for the environment and creating economic development and jobs in ICT technology and other engineering fields. So, it’s obvious as it implicates and affects the whole society and it is a productive and green way to smart the living in a safe and green world.
