Specifika institucionálního zacházení s mladými dospělými v podmínkách výkonu trestu odnětí svobody

Author(s): Petr Juříček / Language(s): Czech Issue: 46 (1)/2016

In Czech prisons, the number of recidivists is still on the rise. A possible cause of this condition can presumably be a low quality of specialist programmes aimed to prevent recidivism among convicts. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of the programmes for prisoners carried out under the conditions of Czech prison system and to analyse their two most common forms based either on individual or group approach towards convicts. Their influence on persons serving a prison sentence is assessed by way of analysing changes in the prisoners’ hierarchy of values, that is in the status of life values before the individual and group programmes were implemented (programmes undertaken during imprisonment) and then, after they were completed. The results of the studies showed a significantly positive influence on convicts of the alternative programmes (other than group); it was shown that carrying out these programmes brings positive effects, especially when they are prepared in response to individual needs and risks.

ТРАНСЦЕНДЕНТНАЯ ФИЛОСОФИЯ МУЛЛЫ САДРЫ И ЭКОЛОГИЧЕСКАЯ ЭТИКА

Author(s): Mohsen Shiravand / Language(s): Russian Issue: 1/2014

This paper describes the philosophical system of the transcendental wisdom of Mulla Sadra. His theory proposes the principality of existence and its individual unity, which justifies the multiplicity of the Universe and the hierarchy of existence. The authors show the possibility to substantiate environmental ethics by the philosophical system of Mulla Sadra, since his understanding of existence as an indivisible unity implies the strategy of non-interference in the life of Nature as a manifestation of God.

Zróżnicowanie dopływu promieniowania słonecznego do południowej części Wyżyny Krakowsko-Częstochowskiej w latach 2008 – 2014

Author(s): Zbigniew Caputa / Language(s): Polish Issue: 147/2016

The object of this study was the actual inflow of short-wave solar radiation ( K↓ ) to the plateau and the bottom of a canyon in the southern part of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. Its diurnal and annual variability was expressed in hourly, daily, monthly, seasonal and annual K↓ totals from the years 2008 – 2014. The K↓ flux was measured using CM3 ( 305 – 2800 nm ) sensors. Great diversity of the terrain, varied landforms, expositions and slopes, big denivelations, and also the diversity of land cover and land use makes this small area very diversified as far as radiation conditions are concerned. On the basis of the actinometrical study the differences in radiation were assessed on two different landforms: plateau and the bottom of a canyon. The mean daily value of the total K↓ in the analysed period amounted to 10.8 MJ • m–2 on the plateau and 9.1 MJ • m–2 at the bottom of the canyon. The mean annual total K↓, in he studied multi-year period amounted to 3955 MJ • m–2 and 3312 MJ • m–2 , respectively.

INDIVIDUALISATION OF DEPRIVED AREAS IN ROMANIA’S SOUTH WEST REGION

INDIVIDUALISATION OF DEPRIVED AREAS IN ROMANIA’S SOUTH WEST REGION

Author(s): Radu-Matei Cocheci / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2015

Measuring territorial disparities is the first step in studies aiming to improve territorial cohesion. As intraregional disparities are often higher than inter-regional ones, an analysis of development at local level is needed in order to define areas of intervention for specific targeted policies. The aim of this study is to individualise deprived areas in Romania’s South West region through the use of the Principal Component Analysis run on 15 social, economic, demographic and physical indicators defined at local level (LAU 2 units). By computing a global index of deprived areas, 13 areas were individualised at regional level, with the results being compared with other studies on deprived areas (Romania’s poverty map, Social Development Index and Less-favoured areas). The final output showcased the differences in defining deprived areas according to the used methodology, with a need to standardise such methods for policy targeting in the future while also considering environmental quality factors.

Author(s): Nahide Konak / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 1/2019

By drawing on Foucault's concepts of bio-power, liberal governmentality and the biopolitics of security, this study aims to analyze the transition to green economy in the name of global climate change mitigation as well as the development of run-of river channel-type hydro-electric (HEPP) projects, public debates and controversies over these projects in Turkey. It consists of two main arguments: 1) It argues that the global climate change, which came into effect as a result of the second contradiction of capitalism (O’Connor, 1994), falls into the realm of bio-power, and the official name for the new security dispositif that is presented as a solution to the climate change crisis is transition to the green economy. It further argues that in this transition, the biopolitics of security has been realized through the neo-liberal governmentality of climate change, which began to define and transform the relationship between carbon gas and human beings. 2) It argues that the HEPP projects, which have been shaped by the global climate change, green economy and renewable energy discourses and practices, fall into the realm of bio-power as well as reflect a bio-power conflict.

Accessing and utilizing services by rural borderland communities in South-Western Nigeria

Accessing and utilizing services by rural borderland communities in South-Western Nigeria

Author(s): Kehinde Olayinka Popoola,Susanne E. SPEAK / Language(s): English Issue: 4 (48)/2018

Borderland communities hold a strategic position in many countries. However, in spite of this, many of these communities, specifically in Nigeria, are still characterized by neglect and underdevelopment. Based on the above fact, this study explores the service deprivation and coping strategies of rural borderland communities in South-Western Nigeria. The study revealed that the majority of inhabitants of rural borderland (64.0%) get their water supply straight from streams and are bound to cover distances of 500 meters or longer to collect water. Similarly, the majority of them defecate in bush reserves around their houses.

Chemical composition of utility water in the arid climate zone on the examples of Kébili and Medenine regions (southern Tunisia)

Chemical composition of utility water in the arid climate zone on the examples of Kébili and Medenine regions (southern Tunisia)

Author(s): Karolina Sobczak-Szelc,Beata Latos,Anna Szczucińska,Rafał Kozłowski,Krzysztof Skocki / Language(s): English Issue: 155/2018

Areas located within the hot, arid zone are characterized by extremely low availability of fresh water. In the Tunisian regions of Kébili and Medenine, deep-water sources and connate groundwater constitute its main sources. Surface waters, as well as shallow groundwaters found in those areas, are affected by a high level of salinity, which significantly reduces their use for either drinking or agriculture. Due to intensifying droughts the rainwater accumulation system, neither fulfils the needs of residents nor the developing agriculture. Waters in the oases of El Faour (Kébili) and Beni Kchedeche (Medenine) were analyzed in 2017 to find out their chemical composition, as well as their suitability for irrigation. The chemical composition of the investigated waters is dominated by the Na+, Ca2+, Cl– and SO4 3– ions.

GREENING FACE: HOW FACIAL EXPRESSION IS MADE SENSIBLE, FROM PRE-CHRISTIAN ARCHITECTURAL SPACES TO POST-DIGITAL SMART ENVIRONMENTS

GREENING FACE: HOW FACIAL EXPRESSION IS MADE SENSIBLE, FROM PRE-CHRISTIAN ARCHITECTURAL SPACES TO POST-DIGITAL SMART ENVIRONMENTS

Author(s): Devon Schiller / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2018

After the many algorithmic, computational, and digital turns over the last five decades, the ways in which we experience and understand the face as something in and of the environment appear to be fundamentally shifting. Indeed, today more and more corporations, institutions, and governments are using automated facial recognition systems within smart environments for abstracting data capital from facial behavior. Through a post-digital perspective, the author explores a history of ideas about the face in relation to its environment across the artistic, scientific and technologic imaginaries, both constants from the past and changes of the present.

Poslije nas, potop

Poslije nas, potop

Author(s): Jasmina Redžepagić / Language(s): Bosnian Issue: 2/2018

Author(s): Şule Yükse Yiğiter,Haşim Bağcı / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 18/2019

Gradual growth of World population, the policies carried out on energy resources, the risk of depletion of fossil energy resources and damage caused by fossil energy resources to the ecological system accelerated the search of new energy sources. These searches have led energy companies to turn to renewable energy sources. There are energy companies that use renewable energy sources in our country like the other countries in the World. In this study, the financial performance of 15 energy companies that are registered to Borsa Istanbul between 2008 and 2017 were analysed, 16 financial statement items are taken into consideration as financial performance indicators. SD and WASPAS multi criteria decision making techniques were used in this study. As a result of the research, it is clearly visible that the company which has high financial performance has changed every year; however the company that has the lowest financial performance is generally Akenerji.

Biomimicry: a Necessary Eco-Ethical Dimension for a Future Human Sustainability

Biomimicry: a Necessary Eco-Ethical Dimension for a Future Human Sustainability

Author(s): Javier Collado-Ruano / Language(s): English Issue: 5/2015

This article reflects on the concept of “global citizenship” from a transdisciplinary methodology and a biomimetic approach. A sustainable human image appears with this epistemological symbiosis, that constitutes the DNA of a genuine tool of civilizational transformation. On the one hand, the transdisciplinary methodology is opened to the multi-referential conception of the three pillars proposed by Basarab Nicolescu (2008): levels of reality, logic of the included middle, and complexity. On the other hand, the concept of biomimicry approached by Janine M. Benyus (2012) identifies nine operating principles of life in order to mimic nature in the reformulation of new sustainable human production systems with the biosphere. The aim of this study is to identify international agreements on environmental and sustainable development, to elaborate some contribution in the post-2015 eco-political-educational strategic framework led by the United Nations with the Sustainable Development Goals. With the purpose of strengthening ties between education and sustainability through symbiotic bridges between nature and culture, the work identifies the vital axises that constitute the interdependence of ecosystems to make a biomimetic application in the social, political, and educational structures of human systems. Then, this paper is an innovational research that seeks to integrate the eco-ethics as a practice in the “Global Citizenship Education” proposed for UNESCO for next decade 2015-2025.

Philosophical Understanding of Noohumanism Genesis as Basis for the Formation of Pedagogical Concept of Forming Noohumanistic – Oriented Worldview

Philosophical Understanding of Noohumanism Genesis as Basis for the Formation of Pedagogical Concept of Forming Noohumanistic – Oriented Worldview

Author(s): Raushan Shindaulova / Language(s): Russian Issue: 4/2014

Responding to the challenges of our time: the global environmental, geopolitical and spiritual crises, conflicts on religious and ethnic grounds, etc., the modern system of higher education is associated with finding new worldview orientations aimed at balanced relationship in the «man-society-nature» and the formation of the individual, freely oriented in a multicultural world, respected spiritual, moral, environmental and humanistic values . Modern educational paradigm based on co-evolutionary, humanistic strategies, including foundations such as the humanization, fundamentalization of education, ecologization of consciousness, etc., has a huge potential for resolving the crisis initiated by collisions worldview of modern consumer-oriented community. We need new ideas, approaches, concepts, based on the creative integration of certain provisions of the scientific theories of society and nature, which would create the life-affirming meanings, values based on homeostatic settlement of socio-nature systems. In this regard, educational theory and practice contains real prerequisites for the formation of a new direction in pedagogy - noohumanistic, which is giving the possibility of forming noohumanistic -oriented worldview.

Material-semiotic Transformations of the Berlin Wall in Post-Communist Bulgaria

Material-semiotic Transformations of the Berlin Wall in Post-Communist Bulgaria

Author(s): Neda Genova / Language(s): English Issue: 1-2/2019

In this article I examine the repeated material-semiotic mobilization of the trope of the Berlin Wall in post-communist Bulgaria. I show that despite the official dismantlement of the Wall commenced some thirty years ago, the structure’s afterlife continues to exert a unique influence on Bulgaria’s public life today. I explore the function of the Wall as a narrative and political device in moments when the relation to public space is negotiated or when notions of “past” and “present” are short-circuited. By taking up the notion of a “recording surface,” developed by Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari in Anti-Oedipus, I show how Bulgarian post-communism can be understood as the terrain of a continuous production of consensus. I argue that after 1989 the Berlin Wall has adopted a governing and consensus-building function that contributes to the “smoothening” of political and social differences on the recording surface of Bulgarian post-communism. Yet, what makes the examination of the fictitious successors of the original Berlin Wall an interesting terrain for examination is that their operation is predicated upon a material heterogeneity and dynamism. In the article, I explore the way this trope has been mobilized in four different cases from Bulgaria’s most recent history and demonstrate in what sense its “reactivation” can be seen as contributing to the stabilization of the recording surface of Bulgarian post-communism.

Zastupljenost demografskih problema pograničnog prostora Republike Srbije u javnim politikama

Zastupljenost demografskih problema pograničnog prostora Republike Srbije u javnim politikama

Author(s): Marija Anđelković Stoilković / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 16/2019

Researches of the Serbian border area have a long tradition. The centralist model of the state during the last century, in combination with a frequently unfavorable traffic geographic position, have strengthened the effect of barrier and isolation of the Serbian border area. The occurrence of depopulation in the eastern border, mountainous parts of Serbia, during the sixties of the last century, attracted the attention of the demographers. This led to the formation of stereotypes that border municipalities are isolated, underdeveloped and demographically endangered. However, the change of the borders of Serbia at the end of the 20th and the beginning of the 21st century led to the formation of new border municipalities. This calls into question the stereotypes about the Serbian border area.In domestic literature, the prevailing opinion that the Serbian border area is faced with numerous demographic problems, which include long-term emigration, and natural depopulation, leading to total demographic collapse. Regressive demographic trends have had adverse implications for demographic structures. However, the entire border area is not underdeveloped and demographically devastated, but in this area there are demographic "oases" with more favorable demographic characteristics. Also, there are municipalities with more favorable traffic, geographical position and economic indicators that exceed the national average.Highlighting the differentiation of the border area is crucial for an adequate political response to the current demographic problems. Public policy documents at the national level note the problems of emigration and depopulation, unfavorable human resources as an obstacle to development, but there are no precisely defined goals for their overcoming. Also, policies at this level do not respect the differentiation of the border area, both in relation to municipalities that do not have border status and between the border municipalities themselves. Some documents emphasize the importance of local self-government units, not as a substitute for existing measures at the national level, but as a supplement to them, based on the real needs of the local population.Public policy documents at the regional level are a positive example of recognizing specific problems of a particular area and representing the potential for an adequate political response.Positive examples exist at the local level, and that strategic documents most often include the phenomenon of insufficient birth and aging of the population. The problem is that despite noticing demographic problems at the local level, the envisaged measures are difficult to implement due to the limited revenues and budgets of local self-government units.
