Особености на етническото съзнание на подрастващото поколение българи от Република Молдова

Особености на етническото съзнание на подрастващото поколение българи от Република Молдова

Author(s): Elena Ratseeva / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2017

The article presents the results of a multifaceted associative experiment. It also reflects on some of the peculiarities of the ethnic consciousness young Bulgarians in Moldova. The collected data have revealed differences between urban and rural respondents’ perceptions of certain features, which are perceived astypically Bulgarian. Light has also been shed on such respondents’ auto- and hetero stereotypes as well as on differences in their perceptions of the hierarchy of values reflected in Bulgarian literature. Alongside with adefinitely positive auto-stereotype and its obvious similarity to representations of “Bulgarianness”, there seems to be a lack of qualitative and quantitative nuances. Also, reactions to the provided stimuli have showna major predominance of associations with Russian cultural and literary images. However, regardless of theabove-mentioned differences, young Bulgarians in Moldova base their outlook on key Bulgarian cultural “imagemes” through which they conceptualize and define Bulgarian ethnic values.

Българската етническа общност в Приазовието днес. За наименованието и съвременното състояние на диаспората

Author(s): Jerzi Hatias / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2017

The Bulgarian diaspora in the Azov Sea region emerged over 150 years ago. Displaced people from Bulgaria arrived in the area mainly from the southern part of Bessarabia. At present they live in the cities of Berdiansk and Primorsk and in the surrounding villages. This diasporic group is not widely known and has not received much scholarly attention. Their knowledge of the Bulgarian language and folk traditions seems rudimentary. Despite many attempts to reclaim the Bulgarian character of this community, a process of assimilation seemsto be in progress.

Encouraging the Investment Activity in High Value-Added Economic Sectors and Activities in Conditions of Demographic Restrictions of the Labour Force in Bulgaria

Author(s): Iskra Beleva / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2022

The decrease in the labor force as a result of the on-going demographic processes of decrease in the natural growth rate of the population and the sustainable emigration raises a series of questions about the possibilities to achieve better balancing of the demand and supply for labor through restructuring of employment. The goal of the study is to conduct an immediate situational analysis of the opinions of the main “players” in the investment process in order to examine, analyze and assess the investment environment and the stimuli for creating more jobs in sectors and activities with higher added value. The main thesis is that creating more jobs with higher productivity of labor and higher wages could be a successful policy for better balancing of the demand and supply of labor, for compensation of the shortage of labor force and for improvement of its quality. The better working conditions and the higher wages are prerequisites for improving the quality of life, which is an important condition for stimulating the reproduction of the population and for decreasing emigration intentions. The study presents economic arguments for the need for more active stimulation of the investments in economic activities and sectors that create higher added value on the basis of an analysis of various aspects of the structure of the economy; created added value; employed labor force; share of highly technological exports in total export and others. The analysis indicates that the dynamic of job creation in sectors that generate added value is not sufficient, which also conditions the lagging behind of the country in a series of indicators for science intensity and innovation in the European space. These conclusions are supplemented by the results from in-depth interviews, conducted with representatives of branch organizations, employers, local authorities and national institutions, which focused on the conditions and stimuli for investment in sectors and activities with high value added. The summary of the voiced opinions and assessments allows for the synthesis of key aspects of policies that encourage the improvement of the environment and stimulate the creation of workplaces in sectors and activities that create higher value added.

Author(s): Vladimir Krivošejev / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 2/2022

Although more than a century has passed, many questions have been unanswered, and the most important of them are related to a total number of war victims, as well as the shares of the murdered on the battlefield and dead from the consequences of various, big and small epidemics, including large typhus epidemic in 1915. In this paper, a general synthesis of epidemic situation during the war in Serbia has been presented, as well as the results of the specific research related to mortality changing according to years in various villages of the Valjevo and Užice area done by analysis of records in registry books and church death registry books. This research has shown that mortality was much bigger (about three times) than average mortality in previous years, approximately depending on village, 75%–85% of the dead passed away during the first half of the year, during the typhus epidemic. In addition, profound research of the mortality in the parishes of the churches in Dračić and Kosjerić showed that 5760 inhabitants lived in 12 villages according to the census from 1910. During the four‐year period, from 1912 to 1915 (those were the years of the Balkan wars and the first two years of the World War I ending in the year when great typhus epidemic developed) deaths of 1090 parishioners were registered and that was 18.92% of the population registered in 1910. The main cause of the deaths was various diseases, although in 1914 there were many war actions, and in the death records only 11 direct war victims were registered. The greatest mortality rate was noted in the ”typhus year”, in 1915, when the informal armistice lasted most of the year. Out of 600 deceased, 477 died during the first half of the year. Typhus was noted as a cause of the death for 338 of the deceased, and it presented 31% of all the records during those four years, and 5.87% out of the inhabitants recorded in 1910. Regarding sex and age structure of the typhus victims during the epidemics, out of 338 deceased a bigger mortality rate of men was noted (185–54.73%) than women, and a much bigger mortality rate of the persons over 40 (219– 4.79%) than younger persons

Analysis of the Youth Policies and Its Impact on the Economic Policy of the State for the Tourism Development

Author(s): Dinara Jakupova,Gaukhar K. Koshebayeva,Nazym Alpysbayeva,Valeriy Biryukov / Language(s): English Issue: 6(62)/2022

The purpose of the study is to analyze the formation of youth policy in the Republic of Kazakhstan and identify factors influencing its development, including the tourism industry. Youth is one of the socially active segments of the population with important potential weight in the future, which is an independent direction of the state, based on legal, ideological and institutional mechanisms. The desire of the majority of young people to independently resolve their issues and build a life perspective was reflected in her increased craving for education, mastering prestigious professions. The value of education, which has largely lost its significance for young people, has taken its place among the priority life values of young people. The findings of our analysis conducted in this research paper highlighted that also the tourism industry, as part of the economic system, is certainly no exception and is not immune to these needs; the impact of policies for the development of youth should generate a growing competition both for the talented managers and teachers, students, young people which could be involved in the development of the tourism industry.

THE DYNAMICS OF FEMALE LIFE EXPECTANCY AND TOTAL FERTILITY RATE IN BANGLADESH: A TIME-SERIES ANALYSIS

THE DYNAMICS OF FEMALE LIFE EXPECTANCY AND TOTAL FERTILITY RATE IN BANGLADESH: A TIME-SERIES ANALYSIS

Author(s): Zerin Jannat / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2022

The association between female life expectancy and total fertility rate (TFR) is seldom explored and little understood. This study empirically explores the nature and dynamics of the relationship between female life expectancy and total fertility rate. Secondary data over the period 1973-2019 have been used from Bangladesh and obtained from the World Bank Dataset. Data have been analyzed using the vector autoregressive (VAR) framework that includes methods of inferences such as the Granger causality test and impulse response analysis. The association between female life expectancy and total fertility rate is negative for Bangladesh. The negative impact of total fertility rate on female life expectancy is statistically significant and prominent. A one standard deviation shock to total fertility rate can lead to a persistent decline in female life expectancy. On the contrary, the impact of female life expectancy of total fertility rate is observed to be of little magnitude. Greater attention needs to be paid to total fertility rate given the substantial impact it exerts on female life expectancy. In Bangladesh, total fertility rate has become static in recent years and a decline in use of all family planning methods has also been observed during the COVID-19 pandemic. This decline could exert shock on the total fertility rate and thus, lead to a persistent decline in female life expectancy. The findings of this study recommend that pragmatic approaches, such as regular recruitment and training of field-level workers to counsel women on FP methods, be adopted to enhance recovery of FP methods use and cushion the total fertility rate as well as female life expectancy from any shocks caused by decline in use of FP methods during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Author(s): Nada Raduški / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 24/2022

The position and preservation of the national identity of Romanians and Vlachs in Serbia are essential for bilateral relations between Serbia and Romania, but also for Serbia's progress in the process of joining the European Union. Adequate legal solutions and their effective implementation are needed for the full realiation of minority rights and freedoms, which creates preconditions for successful demographic, economic and cultural development of national minorities and their effective integration into society, but preserving their ethnic, religious and cultural characteristics. In that context, this research examined the demographic development of the Romanian and Vlach national minorities, and then the key determinants of national identity (origin, language, religion and customs) of Romanians and Vlachs in Serbia. A comparative analysis of the demographic characteristics of Romanians and Vlachs in Serbia shows that both minority communities, mostly inhabited by border areas (Romanians in eastern Vojvodina and Vlachs in eastern central Serbia), are characterised by low birth rates, a high mortality due to old age structure and consequent negative natural increase which, combined with a negative migration balance, results in a marked decrease in the total population (bearing in mind the significant changes in the census declaration of ethnicity, among the Vlachs). These population trends, along with the difficulty in predicting future migration movements of these ethnic communities and the stability of their national orientation, suggest a gloomy demographic picture of the Romanian and Vlach national minorities, which has numerous negative implications for the future economic, political, social and demographic capacity of Romanians and Vlachs inSerbia. A comparative analysis of the identity characteristics of the Romanian and Vlach national communities, ie their ethnogenesis, language, religion and customs as basic components of national identity, confirms the great disagreement in scientific circles as to whether Romanians and Vlachs are the same people. Regarding the origin of the Vlachs, the most realistic view is that all the above opinions are partly correct, i.e., that the Vlachs partly come from Serbs who took over the Romanian language and customs while living in Romania for a long time, that they are partly descendants of the indigenous Balkan population. Originally Romanians immigrated to Serbia. Ethnologists and linguists use similarities in language, which some consider very great and others symbolic, as crucial evidence for this or that theory, and the same can be said for very similar or completely different customs preserved by the Romanian and Vlach national communities in Serbia. All this unequivocally indicates that the current scientific research can be understood only as an initial contribution and incentive for further multidisciplinary study of this issue.

Demographic, Social Network Structure- and InstagramUse-Related Factors Predicting Parents’ Sharenting Behaviors

Demographic, Social Network Structure- and InstagramUse-Related Factors Predicting Parents’ Sharenting Behaviors

Author(s): Hale Ögel Balaban / Language(s): English Issue: Suppl. 1/2022

There has been limited number of studies on sharenting which has occured as a new concept related to parenting due to parent’s extensive sharing of information about their children on social media. The aim of the present study was to examine mothers’ and fathers’ sharing of their children’s photos on Instagram as a sharenting behavior with its predictors. Thus, the relationship of the frequency of sharing children’s photos with the demographic (gender, age, education level and perceived financial status), social network structure-related (online: number of Instagram followers, ratio of followers liking and commenting on children’s photos; offline: perceived social support), and Instagram-userelated (frequency of visiting account, duration of having an account and frequency of general sharing) factors was analyzed. Six hundred seventy three parents using Instagram completed the demographic information form, the use of social media form, and the perceived offline social support scale. Five hundred thirty seven (300 mothers) parents reported to have shared at least one photo of their children on Instagram. Mothers and fathers did not differ in the frequency of sharing photos and the analysis of the contents of shared photos demonstrated that special events, trips and holidays with children, and times with family and friends were the most frequently reported contents. Regression analysis showed that the frequency of sharing children’s photos was predicted negatively by parents’ age; and positively by the frequency of general sharing, the ratio of followers liking children’ photos, and the perceived offline social support.

Author(s): Dejan Donev / Language(s): Macedonian Issue: 1-2/2022

This study attempts a rough estimate of the population size on the territory of North Macedonia in the period of the Principate. The only possible way of making a sensible approximation is to extrapolate the total population size from the existing data of the number and size of autonomous towns. The final part of this equation are the general urbanization rates for the provinces of the Roman Empire, which did not exceed 20% of the total population. This indirect approach to estimating population size will allow us to present the urban geography of our country in the period of the High Empire and will cast light on the general economic and demographic situation in this corner of the Roman Empire. In order to put these numbers in perspective, a comparison will be made between the size of the urban and the overall population in the early Ottoman period.

Геодемографска характеристика на Република Турция

Author(s): Leylya Shefka / Language(s): English,Bulgarian Issue: 1/2019

People, living in particular territory with definite borders in an exact moment form a community, which is determined as population. For many sciences this is an important term. Events connected with population have always been significant from the past until nowadays. Moreover, the problems connected with population and the finding of solutions to them, as well as the changes that took place during their historical development lead to different researches, suitable policies are made according to the situations and the needed measures have been taken and are taken. In a country it is important to know about its population, the number of men and women, their distribution in age groups, average life expectancy and the educational status in all age groups. Their analysis in some extent shows the socio-economic condition in the country and can be a precondition for different changes. In this context the number and structures of the population of the Republic of Turkey will be examined.

Risky Sexual Debut and its Implications on Pregnancy and Abortion among Adolescents in Cluj-Napoca

Author(s): Andreea Elena Răscolean,Cristina Faludi,Alexandra Talpă / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2022

Background: Numerous factors have an impact on adolescents’ sexual behaviour, especially on their sexual debut. Family, religion and school performance are factors that play an important role in an adolescent’s sexual life. Methods: This research had a quantitative methodological design. There were 1148 respondents, aged 15-21, studying in 9 theoretical high schools and in professional and technical schools in Cluj-Napoca who completed an extended questionnaire. Only 44 items were selected for this study, including sociodemographic data, parents’ education, teenage risky behaviours, teenage pregnancy and abortion. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. Results: The respondents’ mean age at sexual debut was 15.33 years old. Boys were more likely to experience a risky sexual debut and registered a lower level of knowledge about sexual and reproductive health (SRH) issues than girls. It was found that students in professional and technical schools were more likely to experience a pregnancy during adolescence and reported a higher self-perceived level of information about SRH issues than students in theoretical high schools. Respondents for whom religion had a higher importance started their sexual life later. Surprisingly, students of mothers with at most secondary education were more knowledgeable than those of mothers with higher education. Conclusions: Programmes for SRH should be designed based on research in order to be responsive to students’ needs and challenges. Such a strategy increases the chances of promoting a healthy sexual life among adolescents and youth.

ASPECTS OF FRENCH INFLUENCE ON 19TH CENTURY ROMANIAN LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE

Author(s): Cosmina Simona Lungoci / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 16/2019

At the beginning of 19th century, Romanians passed through a process of Europeanization which implied a fast assimilation of modern Occidental civilisation. This process of modernising Romanian society occurred within the frame of a global European evolution, but under a strong French influence, which was perceived, at a certain moment, as excessive. In this article we intend to refer to the influences which French had on Romanian language and literature and to discuss the importance of the French model in the process of modernising Romanian society.

«Лучшее украшение женщины - чистота»: (нормы и практики ухода за телом в памяти жительниц нестоличного советского города 1950-1960-х гг.)

Author(s): Natalia Lvovna Pushkareva,Irina V. Bogdashina / Language(s): Russian Issue: 4/2022

The use of several research strategies (comparative historical method, methods of gender anthropology, calling for more attention to female informants and empathy, identifying social dampeners that ensured the mitigation of contradictions and disproportions), several kinds and types of sources (journal publications, medical brochures, women’s ego documents and oral female histories collected by the authors in the Lower Volga region in 2019—2021) made it possible, within the framework of this article, to compare the expected (based on norms and regulations) and real bodily behavior of women in the second post-war decade in the USSR, in the 1950s — 1960s. Studied in the article are women’s daily practices related to body hygiene, self-care, situation in the beauty industry. All these aspects are inscribed in the context of the difficult everyday life of a non-capital Soviet city (full of shortages, difficulties and hardships in a locus that was practically destroyed by the war and was very slowly returning to the pre-war standard of living). The authors supplement the picture of Soviet women’s history with materials that have never been introduced into scientific circulation, and reflections on topics that have long been considered minor and marginal in Russian historiography. Looking for an answer to the question of why it became possible to pay attention to the demands of the female part of the urban population during the years of Khrushchev’s thaw, the ways of the presence of the things experienced (phenomenological) in the average female urban environment are characterized (using the example of the desired and available in the field of perfumery), substantiates connection of the general trend of medicalization of the sphere of care for the female body and the beauty industry, ways of maintaining bodily cleanliness and well-groomed appearance.

THE PHENOMENON OF BIRTH - IMPLICATIONS ON THE COUPLE'S RELATIONSHIP

THE PHENOMENON OF BIRTH - IMPLICATIONS ON THE COUPLE'S RELATIONSHIP

Author(s): Maria-Laura Horeanu / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 24/2021

Birth is a time when a woman's body undergoes significant changes. Although these changes such as weight gain or changes in physical appearance in general can be considered natural stages of pregnancy, many women have difficulty accepting these body changes. A major problem in our culture today is that women give up their own body rights and birth experience, perhaps for the simple reason that they are not aware of what they have given up. Women often give up their own autonomy, their right to make their own decisions about birth, as well as the possibility of a conscious birth, or the transformation of birth into an experience. Through this study we tried to highlight the role of birth on body image and on the couple's life. Thus, the mental structures detached during pregnancy and the adaptation to a new lifestyle that emerged with birth have an important role in women's lives. In addition, the interdependence between birth and emotions will give the couple another dimension, especially in terms of partner experiences. We observed through the analyzed studies that the implications of birth on body image have a significant impact, especially in view of the fact that emotional and cognitive manifestations contribute to the creation of a certain body image and, obviously, influence the couple's life. Consequently, the birth-couple life binomial gives new dimensions to a couple's life in terms of perceptions and emotions.
