KSZTAŁCENIE NA ODLEGŁOŚĆ W WARUNKACH MŁODZIEŻOWEGO OŚRODKA SOCJOTERAPEUTYCZNEGO W OPINIACH RODZICÓW WYCHOWANKÓW

Author(s): Krzysztof Dziurzynski,Bernadeta Rudzińska-Filipek / Language(s): Polish Issue: 3/2023

The COVID-19 pandemic, and particularly the period of emergency remote teaching, have shown how Poland’s educational system coped with teaching curricula in reliance on new technologies. Past lockdown the general education system heralded success, but education of children and youths with special educational needs seemed to go unnoticed. The process of education had to be carried on under lockdown conditions often with direct (in-person) involvement of teachers, class teachers as well as tutors at boarding schools. This article presents Part Two of the record on research in this area. The main goal of this article was to learn the opinions of over 50 parents of students with special educational needs on the ways and the effectiveness of emergency remote teaching and to come up with ideas for future improvements to organization of distance education of students at special education centres. The following three queries were set for examination ahead of this research: (1) General assessment of preparedness of special education centres for distance education needs; (2) Assessment of distance education quality at special education centres and out of the centres’ premises; (3) Assessment of communications quality at special education centres. This research relied on diagnostic survey method (Bauman, Pilch, 2001, p. 79). The applied technique was survey (Bauman, Pilch, 2001, p. 96). The research was conducted in the period October – December 2020. This research met the criteria of evaluation research and can be defined as ex-post evaluation (Haber, 2009, p. 142). Survey for parents comprised 26 ques-tions including 24 closed-ended questions, two open-ended questions plus three demographic questions (the child’s sex, school form and group number). Research material was statistically analysed in reliance on SPSS v. 27 software.

CULTURAL CONSTRUCTION OF THE BODY – RISKS AND PERSPECTIVES

CULTURAL CONSTRUCTION OF THE BODY – RISKS AND PERSPECTIVES

Author(s): Martyna Nawrocka,MARLENA WANDA STRADOMSKA / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2023

The purpose of this paper is to indicate the possible consequences of increasing the dietary, cosmetic and medical interference with the human body. The body shifts from a biological domain to cultural, becomes susceptible to deeper and deeper changes. Transforming the body and controlling it are seen as pro-social and even morally correct, in the same time serving as medium to express the self to the world. This article aims to give some insights on how culture shapes and re-shapes the body, as well as possible consequences – positive and negative – of more and more common interferences in our bodies, by diet, fitness and body modifications.

Life in Greek Open Camps during Covid-19 Era

Life in Greek Open Camps during Covid-19 Era

Author(s): Konstantina Keramitsi / Language(s): English Issue: 1 (21)/2021

The coronavirus pandemic has both short-term and long-term effects on society and many researchers have already been trying to outline the new scenario in our life. Open refugee camps, which are a special separate part of our society, should not be excluded from this field of research. Based on data from empirical research and on review of Greek policy, this paper pays special attention to the preparedness of the camps to deal with the spread of the virus as well as the consequences of the measures taken in Greece from March until August 2020 within the open camps. It’s not only about human rights since the micro-society of the camps has been shaped in such a way where by examining one phenomenon you encounter another that deserves parallel investigation. It is necessary to have a specialized action plan for each camp, with frequent evaluation and cooperation with all relevant stakeholders. The problem of crisis management within camps is not a problem that comes from the virus but from the operating system.

„Żeby umarło przede mną. Opowieści matek niepełnosprawnych dzieci” w społecznym reportażu Jacka Hołuba

„Żeby umarło przede mną. Opowieści matek niepełnosprawnych dzieci” w społecznym reportażu Jacka Hołuba

Author(s): Grażyna Maroszczuk / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2024

The article is an attempt to answer the question of how contemporary reportage participates in the recent re-evaluation of the perception of disability in the context of Polish social reality. The fragments of autobiographical stories of mothers of children with disabilities collected in Jacek Holub’s book are a starting point for considerations on the challenges of reportage as an “indicative genre” and “confusing”, which becomes an indicator of changes taking place in social awareness, assuming 1) broad, also in terms of emotions, understanding of social facts, 2) treating literariness as a necessary medium for presenting reality, apart from documentarian. The text is an attempt to look at the problems of care for people with profound disabilities indicated in Holub’s reportage from the perspective of culturally critical disability studies, where disability is understood as a “form of difference” that obliges society to introduce appropriate adaptations and pathographies in the recently intensified social reflection on health and disease. Holub’s reportage, against the background of the public debate on disability takes on a deeper meaning – not only does it deal with mothers of “disabled children”, influencing the collective awareness related to the perception of their rights and role, but also it is itself a voice of activist involvement.

Comparative Impact of Virtual and Face-To-Face Education on The Academic Performance and Perception of Accounting Students at A Peruvian University During the Pandemic

Comparative Impact of Virtual and Face-To-Face Education on The Academic Performance and Perception of Accounting Students at A Peruvian University During the Pandemic

Author(s): Carlos Alberto Hinojosa Salazar,Benjamín Roldan Polo Escobar,Heisely Mori Pelaez,Juan Manuel Buendía Fernández,Robert Wagner Ocadio Acosta,Consuelo González Camacho / Language(s): English Issue: 7/2024

The present study compares the impact of virtual and face-to-face education modalities on the academic performance and perception of accounting students at the Universidad Nacional Toribio Rodríguez de Mendoza de Amazonas during the COVID-19 pandemic. Through a mixed methodological approach, quantitative and qualitative data from 98 students were analyzed, evaluating their academic performance, interaction, feedback and satisfaction in both modalities. The results show that students in the virtual modality obtained higher academic performance, attributed to the flexibility of online education. However, interaction and feedback were perceived as more effective in the face-to-face modality. Students valued the flexibility of virtual education, but emphasized the importance of personal interaction and the traditional classroom environment to maintain concentration and academic engagement. This study concludes that both modalities have strengths and weaknesses, and suggests that a hybrid combination could offer a more complete educational experience. Improvements in feedback and assessment in virtual environments are recommended, as well as encouraging active participation through interactive technologies.

INTERVIU CU DANIEL SCHULTESS

INTERVIU CU DANIEL SCHULTESS

Author(s): Philipp Blum,Gregorio Demarchi,DANIEL SCHULTESS / Language(s): Romanian Issue: 1/2023

During a recent interview, Daniel Schultess, Professor emeritus at the University of Neuchâtel, Switzerland, has been invited to explore the path he chose within the practice of philosophy. Thus, he was educated and trained in multicultural and multilinguistic milieus (French, German, English), he deepened his skills through fellowships and academic exchanges in Germany, Great Britain and the USA. Schultess taught the History of Western Philosophy and specialised himself in fields such as the Eighteenth Century Scottish Philosophy, the Nineteenth Century Austrian Philosophy, Applied Ethics, Analytical Metaphysics and Epistemology. He devoted his research to new details of the thinking and writings of philosophers such as R. Descartes, G. W. Leibniz, Th. Reid, J. G. Fichte etc. His thoughts, plainly expressed throughout the discussion with Gregorio Demarchi and Philipp Blum, reveal a strong and subtle professional consciousness of the present-date Swiss philosophy. His mind always aims for clarity, inter- and trans-disciplinarity, as well as a peculiar concern for the future of human society, observed in its most valuable cultural products, such as science, philosophy, education. In his answers, Schultess does not hesitate to publicly express some counter-intuitive opinions, which maybe the actual Academia establishment could find hard to swallow (i.e., better to publish less and in a more accomplished way than a lot of it, superficially; to reinforce language mastery in education; to lay the path for a future open to formal methods of research, without receding, however, into formalism). By an overwhelming sincerity, nor does the Swiss Professor avoid discussing the recent social world’s deep earthquakes, such as the pandemic or the war in Ukraine, as we still do not have definite methods to cope with, and whose unknown side-effects may hide additional future unfortunes.

Effectiveness of the Early Start Denver Model for Children with Autism: A Narrative Review and Experiences for Viet Nam

Author(s): Thao Do Thi,Thu Nguyen Thi Anh,Nho Hoang Thi,Tan Nguyen Thi / Language(s): English Issue: 7/2024

Early intervention for children with autism is crucial for their development and quality of life. Different early intervention models exist, including the Early Start Denver Model, which has scientific evidence and is included in Vietnam's Guidance Document on Diagnosis and Intervention for Children with autism spectrum disorders. Therefore, quantitative research design and descriptive statistics methodologies are used in the study to review the Denver early intervention model's effectiveness in treating children with autism worldwide and bring lessons learned for application in Vietnam. This narrative review analyses 16 scientific articles conducted in an international database. Research results show that the Early Start Denver Model is efficacious in improving core defects in children with autism, such as social skills, communication skills, and repetitive behaviors,…; using the Early Start Denver Model will improve parent-child interactions, reducing stress for parents during the parenting process. The findings also indicate lessons for applying the Early Start Denver Model for children with autism in Vietnam, considering factors like regional culture, educational facilities, and learning materials; motor skills and imitation skills should be combined with other therapies for better effectiveness.

Intersexuality and Transgender Identity as a "Problem" of Participation in Sports Competitions (Medical and Legal Aspects of Decision-Making Practice)

Intersexuality and Transgender Identity as a "Problem" of Participation in Sports Competitions (Medical and Legal Aspects of Decision-Making Practice)

Author(s): Andrea Erdősová,Erik Dosedla,Petra Gašparová,Zuzana Ballová / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2024

Amidst a global landscape where transgender individuals face unprecedented challenges in accessing equitable sexual health care, our review breaks new ground by exploring the intricacies of sexual health within the transgender community. Unveiling the critical gaps in current health care practices, our research not only amplifies the voices of those often marginalised in health narratives but also pioneers a comprehensive, culturally sensitive approach to transgender sexual health. The literature review tries to find medical and subsequent legal justifications for PRO and CONS of participation of transgender and intersex athletes in the category of the opposite sex. It tries to analyse which differences in life can be relevant in defining competitive advantages, which nowadays lead to very controversial, often politically motivated conclusions. The opinions of the professional and sports public do not go along with some decisions of sports associations and authorities. It therefore also deals with the recent decision of the European Court of Human Rights in the case of Caster Semenya, as well as the participation of athletes across different sports disciplines and categories. It does not ignore the question of the adequacy of anti-discrimination measures. Furthermore, it evaluates the impact of such participation on the integrity and fairness of competitive sports, highlighting the need for a balanced approach that respects the rights of all athletes. This study stands at the forefront of transforming sexual health care for transgender individuals worldwide.

Abortion in Islam: A Fiqh Examination of Medical and Social Indications

Abortion in Islam: A Fiqh Examination of Medical and Social Indications

Author(s): Muhammad Faisal Hamdani,- Ishaq / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2024

This article aims to explore how principles of Islamic fiqh can be integrated with modern medical approaches in addressing abortion, particularly in countries with significant Muslim populations. Given the high rates of unwanted pregnancies and the grave consequences of unsafe abortions, this research is imperative to enhance understanding of the diverse fiqh perspectives regarding medical and social justifications for abortion. The methodology employed is a phenomenological qualitative approach with a constructivist paradigm, emphasising a deep comprehension of the subjective experiences and viewpoints of Islamic scholars. Data was collected through extensive literature review, including classical and contemporary fiqh texts as well as academic literature related to medical ethics in Islam. The findings reveal various interpretations of Quranic verses relevant to abortion, underscoring the importance of preserving life and human dignity. Within the context of Maqasid Shariah, it was found that abortion could be permitted in situations meeting the criteria of Darura, where the preservation of the mother's life is the paramount concern. Social phenomena related to abortion were also examined, highlighting the stigma and social consequences faced by women in Muslim communities who undergo or consider abortion. The discussion in this article includes the integration of religious law and medical practice, and the need for greater education and awareness about reproductive health within Muslim communities. This allows the research to provide clear guidelines that not only assist healthcare practitioners in making ethical decisions but also support the creation of more effective and empathetic policies that consider the health and well-being of women within a framework of human rights and social justice.

Productivity Challenges in Europe During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Productivity Challenges in Europe During the COVID-19 Pandemic

Author(s): Jānis Priede / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2023

Productivity determines the competitiveness of an economy. High productivity implies low inputs for producing a given amount of output. This allows firms to offer their products and services at lower prices than firms in other regions and countries. In contrast, low productivity implies wasteful usage of labor, capital or other inputs to produce a certain output and leads to higher production costs and, ultimately, higher prices. Many European countries are exhibiting a prolonged slowdown in productivity growth. When it comes to labor productivity, a key indicator, countries like France, Germany or Italy had annual growth rates between 3 and 9 percent until the mid-1970s. Since then, growth rates have declined substantially and are well below 2 percent since the year 2000. Explanations for this phenomenon range from a slowdown of technological progress and diffusion to a structural shift of economies towards lower productive services, restrained investment activity since the financial crisis and mere measurement difficulties. Some believe that the big productivity boost from digitization is yet to come. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges to productivity across Europe. The pandemic has disrupted businesses, supply chains, and the labor market, resulting in reduced economic activity and an increase in unemployment. Some of the productivity challenges faced by Europe during the pandemic include remote work, supply chain disruptions, reduced consumer demand, increased sick leaves and many other problems that directly influence productivity during the COVID-19 pandemic. COVID-19 pandemic has presented significant challenges to productivity across Europe. Businesses and governments must work together to find innovative solutions to overcome these challenges and help the European economy recover from the pandemic. The purpose of the study is to evaluate the productivity issues in European countries during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Munca profesorului cu sine însuși în predarea online Jurnal de pandemie

Munca profesorului cu sine însuși în predarea online Jurnal de pandemie

Author(s): Cătălina-Elena Mihăilă / Language(s): Romanian Issue: Sp. Issue/2023

By radiographing the pandemic period and, implicitly, teaching online, we can categorize them as a combination of lessons, challenges and "inner struggles." In other words, we can discuss this as a period of adaptation, change and adaptation to change, exit from the comfort zone and, last but not least, reinvention. The work of the teacher himself does not accidentally refer to a masterpiece in the training and education of any dramatic artist. The teacher can be seen as both a director and an actor. This "work" brings into question the continuous work of the teacher with himself, a work of knowledge, re-education and invention of his own instruments both internal and external. This remote or online teaching required a different kind of communication, a "pseudo-communication". From this point of view, we can note the importance of directing and organizing the teacher's own inner laboratory so that he succeeds in arousing the inner universes of the student. Moreover, we can discuss the reinvention of both the teacher and the educational forms and means.

Author(s): Igor GERUSH,Antoniy Moysey / Language(s): Ukrainian Issue: 2/2023

The article, based on archival material and conversations with informants, provides data on the leadership of the Chernivtsi State Medical Institute and the Bukovinian State Medical Academy in 1975-2005 and its impact on the development of the institution. The purpose of this work is to introduce these new data into scientifi c circulation. The relevance of the study is due to the approach of the 80th anniversary of Bukovinian State Medical University, the need to honor the scientists who glorifi ed the educational institution, as well as the need to educate young doctors with a creative approach to the profession. In the fi eld of attention of the authors of the study, not only the list of rectors (V. K. Patraty, V. P. Pishak), vicerectors (Fedoruk S. G., Sokol A. M., Kolomoets M.Yu., Voloshin P. V., Khodorovsky G. I., Kokoshchuk G. I., Mohun I. K., Milkov B. O., Kravchenko O. V., Sidorchuk I. Y., Nechitailo Yu. M., Zoriy N. I., Kardash V. E.) and deans, but also the analysis of each personality in the context of biographical data, career movement, creative achievements, social activities, awards, personal contribution to the development of medical science and the university. The article is decorated with photographs of rectors and vice-rectors of the corresponding period. Conclusions. In the time interval 1975-2005. the main stages of the development of BSMU were due to historical realities. Since 1975. until the mid-1980s. the education system was embedded in the Soviet paradigm of world perception. However, in professional terms, the BSMU team clearly followed the scientifi c approaches to teaching special disciplines, highlighting the practical training of young doctors. With the beginning of «perestroika» (rebuilt) in the USSR (II half. 1980s), the process of liberalization of political life intensifi ed, which certainly had an impact on the educational process, especially in the humanitarian cycle of subjects. With the Ukrainian state gaining independence, there were major organizational changes: in 1997. the institution became an Academy, and since 2005 it has been transformed into University. This infl uenced the content of education. The University joined the Bologna Process. A stable number of foreign students in those days is an indicator of these changes. The disciplines of the Marxist- Leninist cycle disappeared. The educational institution entered the era of electronic technology, having a solid material and technical base for this.

CHANGE AND CONTINUITY IN PRECARIOUSNESS: LABOUR MARKET POLICY, GENDERED PATHWAYS AND COVID-19 CRISIS

CHANGE AND CONTINUITY IN PRECARIOUSNESS: LABOUR MARKET POLICY, GENDERED PATHWAYS AND COVID-19 CRISIS

Author(s): Delia Bădoi / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2021

The paper employs a theoretically grounded analysis on precarious employment interrelated with gender-based inequalities and labour market changes in the recent COVID-19 outbreak. The concept of precariousness involves a complex understanding of the insecurity of continuous employment on both institutional and individual level. While the post-Fordist society marked radical changes in the labour market, recent neoliberal policies created new vulnerable groups that experience insecurity, the blocking of professional opportunities and insufficient income over time. This article builds on the idea that the 'stable' and 'flexible' labour market normalized the work insecurity in the context of the economic crises and led to precariousness. Work-related insecurity occurs in a gender-segregated labour market. For the exploration of ongoing processes of the precarization phenomenon, this article focuses on the connection between multidimensional concepts covering the economic, social and psychological consequences of labour insecurity. First, the paper aims to discuss a theory-based conceptualisation of precariousness understood as a multidimensional phenomenon in research literature. Second, the paper includes secondary empirical data on precarious employment, absence from work and COVID impact on gender-segregated labour market at the EU level from Eurostat (2020), EIGE (2020), ILO (2020) and Eurofound (2021). Finally, the results problematises existing approaches on precarious employment and gender inequalities in the context of labour market changes of the COVID-19 crisis.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: PUBLIC POLICY CONCERN AND MEASURING CHALLENGE

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE: PUBLIC POLICY CONCERN AND MEASURING CHALLENGE

Author(s): Simona Ilie / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2022

As a complex, often recurring phenomenon that risks to remain undeclared, domestic violence is a problem that has been recently approached on its own terms by the Romanian public policy. There are currently several series of statistical data provided by the institutions that are entrusted with fighting domestic violence. The combined analysis of these data creates a puzzling image about the phenomenon. This study includes a diagnosis of the phenomenon over the past years, and explores the relationship between public policy and the dynamic of the phenomenon, in (the) periods of building up the integrated monitoring system. In apparent contradiction with the qualitative perception of the COVID-19 pandemic as favoring factor, the study identifies the differentiated impact of the pandemic on domestic violence over the period 2020−2021.

INTERPERSONAL RELATIONS IN PRESCHOOL EDUCATION UNITS IN THE CONTEXT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Author(s): Maria Pescaru / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2021

Personality characteristics are formed and self-created through a mechanism built in society and a special tool - interpersonal relationships. Relationships within educational units, between colleagues, can influence the efficiency of teachers, in order to develop a balanced educational process. The study was conducted to ascertain the quality of interpersonal relationships between directors of preschools in urban areas, teachers, preschoolers and parents of preschoolers in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, during the period of teaching activities that took place online at the beginning of 2020, starting with March 10. We conducted a sociological survey, using the questionnaire as a research tool, because the realistic concept that has earned its deserved place among theorists and practitioners, is that we should not absolutize the two terms of the educational process, teacher - subject, but must look as mutually receptive partners who are co-participants in the interaction. The directors of the pre-school units also played an important role in that period, because they have to carry out a complex activity of designing, preparing, organizing, coordinating and administering the elements involved in achieving educational objectives. The interaction of directors with teachers and parents involves complex skills.
