FRUSTRATION AND STRESS IN THE ONLINE EDUCATION OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS FROM LITHUANIA AND ROMANIA

FRUSTRATION AND STRESS IN THE ONLINE EDUCATION OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS FROM LITHUANIA AND ROMANIA

Author(s): Gabriel Gorghiu,Vincentas Lamanauskas,Rita Makarskaitė-Petkevičienė,Valentina Iuliana Manea,Costin Pribeanu / Language(s): English Issue: 01/2021

The pandemic generated by COVID-19 has a tremendous impact on the economy, society, and life of people all over the world. People suffer from the lockdown restrictions, reduced and very limited space. The situation is further aggravated by illnesses of family members, acquaintances, friends, illnesses caused by the coronavirus, and sometimes losses. This not only stresses, but also leads to exhaustion, burnout, and life with a continuous feeling of fear and stress. Although online learning is familiar and broadly accepted, there is a huge difference between going online to complement learning and find additional sources of information and knowledge and going online instead of going to school or university. Extant research reports on several side effects of online classes, such as stress, frustration, lack of engagement, and motivation. At present, it is noticed an abundance of research, showing that over-prolonged focus on the screen (computer, tablet, phone) increases stress and anxiety. And though digital devices are indispensable human attendants in the 21st century, nevertheless, twice the extended time allotted to them has negative consequences. During such a pandemic, such symptoms as anxiety, fear of infection and death, anger, hopelessness, stigma, and guilt can occur. This study aims at analyzing two negative perceptions of university students as regards the online lectures during the pandemic: frustration and stress. Online lectures refer to various activities, such as courses, seminars, talks, or debates. The research is using samples of Lithuanian and Romanian university students from three universities. Multiple linear regression has been used to analyze the influence of boredom, concentration difficulties, learning difficulties, and fatigue on the frustrating and stressful learning experience. The results show all four factors have a significant positive influence on the dependent variables. While learning difficulty is the most important factor leading to a frustrating learning experience, fatigue has been found as the main cause of the stressful learning experience.

Further Training Peculiarities for Primary School Teachers in Educational Reforming Conditions in Ukraine

Author(s): Olena Vasylivna Nikulochkina,Olena Varetska,Olena KHAUSTOVA,Svitlana Pomyrcha,Svitlana Pokrova,Nataliia Kravets / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2022

One of the main educational systems in Ukraine is New Ukrainian school development, the implementation of which has begun with the programs’ renewal and State standards of primary school. Primary school teachers’ further training was aimed at forming the leading “agents of change” who lay the groundwork for the creation of the New Ukrainian School. In the articles the organization formula and the substantive content of the Standard program for primary school teachers’ further training are considered in details. It is determined that in addition to the obvious topics (NUS Concept, State Standard, class organization and learning according to the new principles, evaluation system, etc.), a module on one of the most relevant today’s topics is added to the new program, namely - neuropsychology. Therefore, the purpose of our article was to highlight the further training peculiarities for primary school teachers in Ukraine considering the effectiveness of the neuropsychological aspects introduction in this process. To achieve this goal a quantitative method of the empirical level of research was chosen - a questionnaire. The results of the primary school teachers’ questionnaire led to the identification of the advantages and disadvantages of the teachers’ professional further training system in Ukraine, as well as to record the fact that the introduction of a compulsory module on neuropsychology helps to increase the number of teachers who implement the neuropsychological approach in education.

Formation of the Subjectivity of the Future Teacher in the Educational Realities of Ukraine

Formation of the Subjectivity of the Future Teacher in the Educational Realities of Ukraine

Author(s): Yulya Zhurat,Vitalii Volodymyrovych Honcharuk,Maya Zubal,Nataliia Savchenko,Mykola Dubinka,Oksana Yazlovetska / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2022

The article formulates the basic principles of forming the subjectivity of the future teacher in the Ukrainian educational field, which is in a transitional stage between modernist and postmodernist paradigms. Based on the analysis of secondary data (world neuro pedagogical and Ukrainian methodological experience) the directions of optimization of the educational space of Ukraine with the aim of deepening its subjective orientation are formulated. The international significance of the article lies in the possibility of using the achievements in reforming the educational policy and educational process of developing countries and having strong residual traditions of postcolonial consciousness. Subjectivity has been shown to have a natural biosocial basis as one of the main goals of education. The main stages of formation of the subjectivity of the future teacher in the conditions of reforming of higher education are outlined. It is argued that in the process of conscious and motivated educational activity of a student in the higher educational institutions of Ukraine there is ontogenetic environment, the main manifestations of which are social and professional subjectivity. This is the result of the actual formation and development of its subjectivity in the following areas: the subject of educational activity; the subject of educational quasi-professional activity; the subject of his own mental activity; the subject of pedagogical activity in primary school.

Increased cognitive load during pseudoword processing

Author(s): Lukša Matas,Marina Olujić Tomazin,Jelena Kuvač Kraljević,Gordana Hržica,Magdalena Krbot Skorić,Nevena Padovan / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2021

Pseudowords (words without semantic meaning) are often used as a control condition in linguistic cognitive experiments, with the expectation that such words, unlike real words, do not activate higher cognitive processes in the brain. However, other theories assume that pseudowords are perceived as new words, leading to an even higher cognitive response. The aim of this study was to investigate the cognitive load of processing a pseudoword by observing event-related potentials in a 3- stimulus oddball paradigm using real target words, real non-target words, and pseudowords as oddball stimuli. The results show a clear task-related P3b triggered by target words, but also a prominent P600 component triggered by pseudowords, indicating difficulty in the classification task due to unknown words. Surprisingly, N400 was decreased for pseudowords compared to target and non-target words at the locations where P3b and P600 were observed, suggesting that task-related effects might inhibit other aspects of cognitive processing. These results could lead to better understanding of the components that may overlap temporally and topographically, and to the more precise control of different cognitive generators involved in event-related potential experiments in pseudowords.

Stres w pracy policjantów a ich style radzenia sobie w sytuacjach trudnych

Author(s): Ryszard Bera / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2021

Police work places a special kind of psychophysical strain on officers. The threat of loss of health or life and other cherished values becomes real. Difficult situations occurring on duty cause the feeling of being overloaded, the necessity of great involvement, they are also a source of emotional tensions, deprivation of various needs, especially the sense of security, social acceptance, sometimes resulting in a conflict of values. Long-term stress can be a source of permanent fatigue, and in consequence lead to a decrease in the quality of performance and professional burnout, and in the long run professional maladaptation and quitting the police force. Hence the need for continuous monitoring of this issue. This article is based on the author’s empirical research and is devoted to determining the relationship between police officers’ perceived stress and their ways of coping with difficult situations. A significant relationship between these variables was found. It turns out that officers show high resistance to stress and when faced with difficult situations, they usually use avoidance style or focus on solving the problems.

Alkol/Madde Kullanım Bozukluklarında Şiddet ve İntiharın Nörobiyolojik Temelleri

Author(s): Bahadır Geniş,Ferit Şahin,Nermin Gürhan / Language(s): Turkish Issue: 2/2022

Both the risk of suicidal and violent behaviours increases in alcohol and substance use disorders. Besides, it’s proposed that alcohol and substance use disorders significantly contribute to the increasing prevalence of suicide and violence worldwide. For these reasons, it is thought that the spiral of problems consisting of the concepts of suicide, violence, and addiction awaits a solution on a global scale. The discovery of the underlying neurobiological mechanisms is required to deal with these problems. Previous research has revealed the importance of neurobiological mechanisms in understanding suicidal, violent, and addictive behaviours. Especially recent studies have shown some evidence that these three conditions have some related genetic, epigenetic, and neurobiological bases. Therefore, besides the current neurobiological research on alcohol and substance use disorders, scientific literature related to suicidal and violent behaviours will be presented in this review altogether.

PRACTICAL IMPLEMENTATION OF NEUROMARKETING IN DIFFERENT BUSINESS INDUSTRIES: CHALLENGES AND TRENDS

Author(s): Nevenka Popović Šević,Milica Slijepcevic,Ivana Radojević / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2022

Over the last decade, new technological progress has enabled the researchers to use neuroscience not only for scientific but also for marketing studies, so they can explore, at the same time, conscious and unconscious drivers of consumer behaviour in real daily situations. Applying brain science to consumer behaviour, neuromarketing—a new innovative marketing research discipline—examines consumers’ response (sensory, motor, and cognitive) to advertising stimuli. This article focuses on three key areas: literature review, challenges and limitations of neuromarketing, and neuromarketing trends, with several concrete real-life examples in different business industries. Practical challenges and limitations within the neuromarketing research, such as ethics, accessibility, costs and timing, but also side effects, are discussed. At the end, this article emphasizes many practical implementations of neuromarketing in different business branches, with the adoption of academic and scientific neuroscience researches to commercial purposes.

Stories of transmission and gradual resolution of trauma-related shame in three generations of Slovenian families

Stories of transmission and gradual resolution of trauma-related shame in three generations of Slovenian families

Author(s): Katarina Kompan Erzar,Erzsébet Fanni Tóth,Katarina Možina / Language(s): English Issue: 11/2021

In this paper, we will present a study into the dynamics of the transmission of emotional traumatic in three families of victims of World War II and post-war communist oppression. This study is taken from a broader research project in which we investigated the experiences of nonclinical families that managed to survive through three generation, and in which post-traumatic growth is present, i. e. the ability to integrate traumatic experiences and provide greater security for future generations. The main focus will be on how emotional content is transmitted and transformed through generations and how to recognise it in various forms of behaviour, thinking and emotions, that appear in each of the generations. As we follow the transformation of traumatic content, we will also follow the the signs that show how traumatic content has integrated and begun to bring new, deeper emotional and mental insights. The emotional depth of the traumatic experience is what burdens the victim the most and slows down the dynamics of trauma processing. It appears in the form of symptoms of post-traumatic stress syndrome, insecurity and mistrust. This is found even in victims who have articulated the trauma sufficiently to rise above intimidation, managed to develop emotionally strong and connecting interpersonal relationships, maintain faith in the future, and form a coherent narrative of their traumatic past.

Despite the existence of unquestionable evidence of the success and benefits of neuroscience in explaining social phenomena through a new area of research known as social neuroscience, the social sciences show no particular interest in neuroscientific research into social phenomena. A possible solution for the conceptualization of the inter-disciplinary connection of neuroscience and social sciences is the analogy with the existence of two perspectives in social psychology: sociological social psychology and psychological social psychology.

Связь состояния функций программирования и контроля и развития синтаксиса у детей 8 лет

Author(s): E. S. Oshchepkova,T. V. Akhutina / Language(s): Russian Issue: 1-2/2022

This article considers how children’s neuropsychological development, in particular executive functions, influences their speech acquisition. The study involved 71 students of the second grade (average age 8.8 years, standard deviation 0.29) in one of the lyceums in Moscow. The children were asked to do tasks based on a battery of neuropsychological methods, including making up a story using a series of pictures “Garbage”. The results of the neuropsychological tests were used to calculate the following parameters: firstly, the index of the executive functions (3.1) and the index of serial organization (3.2); secondly, the auditory information processing index (2.2) and the left hemispheric index (L); and, thirdly, the visuospatial information processing index (2.4) and the right hemispheric index (R). According to these indices, strong and weak groups were formed 1) for executive functions, 2) for left hemisphere, and 3) for right hemisphere functions. The stories created by the children were used to analyze their speech production ability, as well as both general textual and syntactic parameters. The data obtained revealed that, depending on the level of development of executive functions, children’s stories differ in a number of parameters. The latter include general text features (semantic completeness, semantic adequacy (the presence of incompleteness and distortions), the construction of the semantic program of the story, the number of words in the story) and syntactic and grammatical features (the number of simple and complex sentences, the average sentence length, etc.).

Междисциплинарное изучение алекситимии

Author(s): Elena Anatolievna Gorobets,R. G. Esin,Yuliya Aleksandrovna Volskaya / Language(s): Russian Issue: 1-2/2022

In modern science, alexithymia is defined as the specific cognitive status of a person who has marked difficulties in understanding and exteriorizing one’s feelings, emotions, experiences, and impressions, as well as in separating them from bodily sensations and in perceiving the feelings and emotions of other people. Alexithymic disorders have been actively studied by doctors of various profiles, psychologists, neurophysiologists, and also – over the past decade – by linguists. This article discusses the features of alexithymia in its connection with the problems of clinical practice, the manifestations of alexithymia in various fields, and the specifics of its interdisciplinary study. The relationship of alexithymia with the risk and more severe course of various somatic diseases is analyzed. Particular attention is paid to the difficulties of diagnostic procedures in the presence of a high level of alexithymia in patients. Various classifications of alexithymia are considered. A review of modern neurostudies on alexithymia seeking to further explore it and identify optimal therapeutic strategies is provided.

Towards a perfect universal educational curriculum

Towards a perfect universal educational curriculum

Author(s): Lynsey Mori / Language(s): English Issue: 4/2022

In the process of reforming education, it has become no longer possible to discuss pedagogy, curriculum, instruction, academic achievement, or the culture and climate of schools without discussing social-emotional competencies under the framework of social and emotional learning. This paper attempted to explore some of the complications within the building and implementing an educational curriculum. The study discusses educational pedagogy in the existing literature. Based on the findings, education requires more dedicated and school-specific reflection into where things go wrong. Due to the broad range of skills and unfurling neuroscience behind emotional intelligence, it can be proposed that a lack of ownership of these competencies is assisting in a dilution through local authority principles/governments/education boards and to a loosely based school-level approach through individual teachers with little guidance or support.

Melotherapy in stress-related illnesses

Author(s): Bogdan Marian Tarcău,Miruna Lorelai Bîtcă,Ioana Alina Halip,Marcel-Alexandru Găină,Adriana Pătrașcu,Otilia Andreea Petcuță,Laura Stătescu,Alina Stîncanu,Dan Vâță,Laura Gheucă Solovăstru / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2022

Music has proven to be more efficient than just for entertainment purposes, as music therapy has emerged as a clinical method in targeting different diseases of the mind and body. In this current review of the literature, we focus on the effects of music therapy on stress-related illnesses, such as substance use disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, dementia, menopause, psoriasis and neurodermatitis. Addressing the psychological stress factor could prevent, alleviate, or even cure but is often overlooked in the therapeutic scheme focused on more pragmatic and rapid-acting treatments. Patients may consider psychological stress as expected in the modern era. Still, we must inform them about the long-term adverse effects of stress and propose stress-reduction techniques. Even though counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy, hypnosis and even meditation have proven their effectiveness, music therapy appears to be a more pleasant and readily-accessible technique.

Developing Professional Competency in First Aid in Future Coaches in Ukraine

Author(s): Mykhailo Omelchuk,Borys Maksymchuk,Serhii Ihnatenko,Nazar Navolskyi,Tetiana Kitsak,Oleksandr Vitkovskyi,Nadiia Ostrovska,Anatoliy Vykhrushch,Mykola Lukashchuk,Illia Lukashchuk,Mykhail Demianchuk,Inesa Khmeliar,Lesia Kushnir,Iryna Maksymchuk / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2022

The article deals with theoretical and methodical aspects of developing professional competency in first aid in future coaches of Ukraine. It aims to theoretically justify and experimentally verify the methodology for developing professional competency in first aid in future coaches based on simulation learning. The research hypothesis assumes that the level of professional competency in first aid in future coaches will increase if the author’s methodology has been implemented in their training based on simulation learning and taking into account neurophysiological factors. The article proves that simulation learning, along with the use of such approaches as “four steps”, “positive criticism” and “continuous assessment” in the framework of such components of professional competency as motivation and values, knowledge and practice, personal and psychological aspects, organization and communication, leads to positive changes in the development of professional competence in first aid in future coaches. The international relevance of the article is as follows: for the first time in the post-Soviet space, it has been suggested to improve theoretical and methodological aspects of developing professional competency in first aid in future coaches, taking into account neurophysiological factors and current trends; the author’s methodology for developing competency in first aid on the example of Ukraine, which is available for the countries with ongoing reforms education, has been presented.
