Çocuk İstismarına İlişkin Bilişler Ölçeği: Ebeveyn Formu

Author(s): Yahya Aktu,Mücahit Dilekmen / Language(s): Turkish Issue: Suppl. 1/2021

Parents can have certain misbeliefs, misconceptions or cognitions related to child abuse within the framework of cultural norms and family dynamics. These cognitions can lead to unhealthy communication in the family and deterioration of the child's mental structure. In order to raise a healthy family and society, it is necessary to determine the cognitions of parents regarding child abuse. In this direction, this study sets out to develop a measurement tool that measures the cognition of parents about child abuse. The study group of the research consists of 794 parents residing in Siirt. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis studies were carried out in order to ensure construct validity during the scale development. According to the exploratory factor analysis, it was seen that the three-dimensional structure of the scale explained 50.36% of the total variance. The model fit of the scale was tested, and it was concluded that the fit indices were at an acceptable level according to the confirmatory factor analysis. Within the scope of the reliability studies of the scale, it was seen that the internal consistency, split half reliability and test-retest reliability coefficients of the whole scale were high. In order to test the criterion-related validity of the scale, it was determined that there was a moderate and high level of relationship between the Childhood Sexual Abuse Myths Scale, and the Child Negligence and Abuse Awareness Scales. A total of 18 items and sub-dimensions of the three-factor structure were determined as cognitions related to child neglect, cognitions related to the act of abuse, and cognitions related to coping with abuse. In line with the results obtained, it can be said that the scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool.

Психосоциални задачи на развитието в предочилишна възраст и специфика на игровия механизъм в детската градина

Психосоциални задачи на развитието в предочилишна възраст и специфика на игровия механизъм в детската градина

Author(s): Sofia Dermendzhieva,Daniela Tasevska,Gergana Dyankova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2022

The theoretical formulations, analyzed in the study, and the proposed applied model for game technology in the implementation of the educational process in kindergarten, are presupposed by the concept of lifelong learning as a platform of modern educational environment and as a factor promoting the professional development of children’s teachers. Classical theories on the specifics of the psychosocial development of the child’s personality in preschool age are analytically discussed in view of the process of individual growth, and of the influence of emotional and behavioural manifestations in 3–7-year-old children. Special emphasis is placed on the topic of the game mechanism as a form and means of educational policy in building key competencies in preschool children. The causal relationships between the child’s natural needs for self realization, self-expression, and self-determination, as well as the game and cognitive educational space in the kindergarten stand out, caused by the ten psychological components characteristic of the game mechanism.

The predictive role of parental attitudes in adolescent maladjustment

The predictive role of parental attitudes in adolescent maladjustment

Author(s): Sławomir Sobczak,Tamara Zacharuk / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2022

Social maladjustment is the result of, inter alia, improper socialization interactions, first of all parental attitudes, i.e. all relatively permanent dispositions to apply specific reaction patterns to the child. The aim of the research was to determine the predictive role of parental attitudes in the social maladjustment of young people. The research obtained data from 100 socially maladjusted people and 100 people who did not show socialization deficits, aged 15–17. It was hypothesized that positive parental attitudes (acceptance, autonomy, protection) play a predictive role in social maladjustment and contribute to reducing the risk of anti-social behavior. It was found that these attitudes have a significant negative correlation with the socialization dysfunctions of youth. The predictor in the model turned out to be the attitude of accepting the mother and the attitude of father’s autonomy, allowing for the explanation of about 60% (R2 = 0.597) of general variance in the variance of antisocial behavior in adolescents.

POSTOJI LI ALTERNATIVA IZAZOVNOM PONAŠANJU DJECE I OMLADINE U AUTISTIČNOM SPEKTRU?

Author(s): Melika Ahmetović / Language(s): Bosnian,Croatian,Serbian Issue: 3/2021

Challenging behavior is often regarded as certain specific, mostly disturbing behaviors. These might be fighting, biting, spitting, screaming and any other kind of behavior that feels offensive to or challenge the people dealing with persons on autism spectrum. Challenging behavior is, not just in regard to autism spectrum in the focus of research and there are many books on the market about how to change these behaviors, often using cognitive behavioral methods. That is not the aim of this article. The aim of this article is to contribute to understanding challenging behavior in a person on autism spectrum, as well as to understanding of the persons showing the challenging behavior. The understanding of challenging behavior and the purpose of such behaviors is a prerequisite for preventing and managing those behavior. Each and every behavior has a purpose – therefore is of the utmost importance to understand the purpose of behavior, the person is showing in a certain situation. For the person showing the challenging behavior, is that behavior subjectively purposeful and therefore correct, even if the people dealing with persons on autism spectrum perceive the same behavior as inappropriate, dangerous of intimidating. Bo Hejlskov Elven (2015:17) defines the challenging behavior as “behavior that causes problems for people around the person on autism spectrum”. Persons showing challenging behaviors are mostly expected to change and adapt – in order to get rid of challenging behavior. This is certainly a very difficult task for most of the persons on the autism spectrum. Person showing a certain (challenging) behavior, must not have a reason to change the behavior (behavior has a good purpose from the subjective point of view) or the person doesn´t have the competencies necessary to change and adapt the behavior, perceived as challenging. In both cases it is OUR task and responsibility to change (something) in order to provide the setting suitable for changing or preventing the challenging behavior.

Postpartum Paternal Depression: Its Impact on Family and Child Development

Author(s): Özge Demirci,Emine İnan / Language(s): English Issue: 3/2023

The postpartum period is when parents undergo great changes and gain new responsibilities. Factors such as the changes that come with having a baby, not meeting the expectations about parenthood, having a child with a difficult temperament or health problems, or relational problems can be quite challenging in this period. These problems can deeply affect the psychological well-being of the parents. Although studies on depressive symptoms of mothers during pregnancy and postpartum are at an important level, studies aiming to examine the psychological state of fathers for the same period are still limited. However, perceptions that postpartum depression develops due to hormonal changes during pregnancy have been reshaped by the findings that this situation may also develop due to psychosocial factors. Relatedly, the number of studies on postpartum depression experienced by fathers has increased over time. Results of those studies show that fathers' psychological state also influences their parenting and the development of children. Fathers may experience paternal depression due to a lack of social support, economic conditions, relationship dynamics, and changing living conditions in the postpartum period. This situation may cause fathers to avoid parenting duties, spend less time with their children, be unable to cooperate with the mother, and have anger problems or deterioration in the relationship with the mother. The effects of depression on individuals' parenting styles negatively affect child-parent attachment and may cause children to develop emotional and behavioral problems. Therefore, it is very important to examine fathers' psychological state for children's development and the healthy progress of family dynamics. This review aims to address the effect of paternal depression on parenting and child development.

Author(s): Gülçin Güler ÖZTEKİN,Başaran Gençdoğan / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2023

Child-Parent Relationship Therapy is an approach that combines play therapy and family therapy. It is based on the idea of teaching parents the skills of structuring, emphatic listening, imaginary play and limit-setting and enabling their children to become play therapists. The overall aim is to strengthen the child-parent relationship. It is a structured, 10-week, group format training for parents with children aged 3-10. After 3 week-parent training, special play sessions with their children for 7 weeks begin in parallel with the training sessions. These sessions teach parents to recognize their children's emotions, listen effectively, build self-esteem, and set boundaries therapeutically, while helping parents develop parenting skills. In this review, the history of ChildParent Relationship Therapy, its aims, parent-child interaction and training dimensions, play room and toy selection, content of training sessions and research studies on its effectiveness are explained. Evaluating the model, it was seen that CPRT was an effective approach in reducing parental stress and behavioral problems of children, and improving parental acceptance and empathy levels.

Demographic, Social Network Structure- and InstagramUse-Related Factors Predicting Parents’ Sharenting Behaviors

Author(s): Hale Ögel Balaban / Language(s): English Issue: Suppl. 1/2022

There has been limited number of studies on sharenting which has occured as a new concept related to parenting due to parent’s extensive sharing of information about their children on social media. The aim of the present study was to examine mothers’ and fathers’ sharing of their children’s photos on Instagram as a sharenting behavior with its predictors. Thus, the relationship of the frequency of sharing children’s photos with the demographic (gender, age, education level and perceived financial status), social network structure-related (online: number of Instagram followers, ratio of followers liking and commenting on children’s photos; offline: perceived social support), and Instagram-userelated (frequency of visiting account, duration of having an account and frequency of general sharing) factors was analyzed. Six hundred seventy three parents using Instagram completed the demographic information form, the use of social media form, and the perceived offline social support scale. Five hundred thirty seven (300 mothers) parents reported to have shared at least one photo of their children on Instagram. Mothers and fathers did not differ in the frequency of sharing photos and the analysis of the contents of shared photos demonstrated that special events, trips and holidays with children, and times with family and friends were the most frequently reported contents. Regression analysis showed that the frequency of sharing children’s photos was predicted negatively by parents’ age; and positively by the frequency of general sharing, the ratio of followers liking children’ photos, and the perceived offline social support.

Investigation of Clinical Characteristics of Children and Adolescents Followed under Health Precaution

Author(s): Duygu Karagöz / Language(s): English Issue: Suppl. 1/2022

The aim of this study was to evaluate the sociodemographic and clinical characteristics of children and adolescents who were followed in the child psychiatry clinic in the scope of the health precaution, which is one of the protective and supportive measures of the Child Protection Law. 112 children and adolescents who were followed up at the child psychiatry clinic between 01.01.2020 and 01.01.2022 in the scope of health precaution, participated in this study. The clinic files and social examination reports of the participants were examined retrospectively. It was determined that the most common reasons for taking a health precaution decision are sexual abuse, deficiencies of basic needs/neglect and behavioral problems. Moreover, it showed that the rate of taking health precaution due to sexual abuse was higher in girls however the rate of that due to delinquency was more common in boys. It was determined that 72.3% of the children, who were followed up in the scope of health precaution, were diagnosed with psychiatric disorders, and the most common psychiatric disorders were attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder, major depressive disorder, specific learning disability and intellectual disability, respectively. In the group with psychiatric disorders, it was determined that the deficiencies of basic needs/neglect as a reason for taking health precaution, was significantly common and that the mothers of the children and adolescents in the group with psychiatric disorders had a higher rate of diagnosed psychiatric disorders. Given the fact that abuse and neglect come first among the reasons for the implementation of health precaution; it is vital to develop early intervention programs to protect children from neglect and abuse. Since the effects of neglect and abuse on children can be devastating and long lasting and as it is known that they are risk factors for many psychiatric disorders, regular follow-up and treatment of these children in the scope of health precaution is important.

Predictors of Psychological Resilience: Childhood Trauma Experiences and Forgiveness

Author(s): Necmiye Doğruer,Füsun Gökkaya,Eliz Volkan,Merve Güleç / Language(s): English Issue: Suppl. 1/2022

Psychological resilience enables the person to come out of this situation in a strong way without being harmed after traumatic events. In our study, the relationship between experiencing childhood traumas, types of forgiveness and psychological resilience was examined. In addition, it was also investigated how childhood traumatic experiences and types of forgiveness (forgiving oneself, forgiving the situation, forgiving others) predict psychological resilience. In this study, which was conducted with the relational screening model, the relationships between the dependent variable “Psychological Resilience” and the independent variables “Childhood Traumas” and “Forgiveness” were examined by multiple linear regression analysis Enter method. Data were collected from a total of 366 participants, 236 of whom were women (64.5%) and 130 (35.5%) were men, living in the province of Istanbul. The Personal Information Form, Childhood Trauma Scale [CTS], Adult Resilience Scale [PDS] and Heartland Forgiveness Scale [HAS] were applied to the individuals in the sample. In the study, the relationships between the variables mentioned first were examined, the relationship was determined, and according to the results of the multiple linear regression analysis, it was determined that childhood traumas, self-forgiveness and forgiveness of the situation predicted psychological resilience, while forgiveness of others had no predictive effect. In the study, it was concluded that childhood trauma experiences negatively predicted psychological resilience, while self-forgiveness and forgiving the situation variables predicted it positively. It is thought that it is very important to study self-forgiveness, especially when working with childhood traumas in psychological trauma-based interventions and psychotherapy processes.

ZASTOSOWANIE TRENINGU NEUROFEEDBACK W PRACY Z DZIEĆMI Z NIEPEŁNOSPRAWNOŚCIĄ INTELEKTUALNĄ W STOPNIU LEKKIM. PROJEKT PROCEDURY

Author(s): Weronika Rochatka / Language(s): Polish Issue: 61/2021

As a method of training neurofeedback has proved to be effective in education and therapy of children (e.g., with ADHD, autism spectrum or specific learning disorders). However, there are no neurofeedback training protocols targeting individuals with a mild intellectual disability. Therefore, I designed a neurofeedback procedure for children with this disability; it focuses on attention span training. In this study I presented the pre-planned procedure to the child’s parent to determine whether the proposed method is feasible for work with a child with a mild intellectual disability. After learning the parents’ opinion, I indicate the possible further stages of developing a neurofeedback strategy for working with children with a mild intellectual disability. Finally, I demonstrate the future directions of research and planning of neurofeedback procedures for individuals with special needs.

Факторы, определяющие развитие когнитивных способностей в условиях цифровизации процессов образования: обзор текущих исследований

Author(s): Yury Viktorovich Pushkarev,Elena Aleksandrovna Pushkareva / Language(s): Russian Issue: 6/2022

Introduction. The article examines the problem of digital transformation of modern society and education, which significantly affects the efficiency and effectiveness of the cognitive development of the individual. The aim of the study is to identify the determining factors for the development of cognitive abilities under the current conditions of digitization of educational processes. Materials and Methods. The methodology of the research includes a content analysis and reviewing international and Russian research papers that consider the problems of information development of society, evaluate the development of the education system in the current conditions, determining the specifics of the influence of digital content on cognitive processes. Results. The authors consider the factors and interrelations of cognitive and emotional, motivational, linguistic, creative components of development; determine the impact of metacognitive/systemic skills in the current conditions of digitalization of educational processes. It is noted that an important factor determining the development of cognitive abilities at a higher level in the conditions of digitization of educational processes is the creation of an appropriate educational environment that takes into account the psychophysiological age-related characteristics and helps to increase motivation and cognitive activity. It is indicated that the digitalization of educational processes significantly changes the ways of communication and the language environment. It is shown that modern cognition is directly related to the language of information development of society. At the same time, the digitalization of educational processes primarily determines the language transformation and the formation of new mechanisms for the assimilation of information. It is emphasized that the digitalization of educational processes determines the need for the formation of metacognitive abilities and universal competencies, which primarily include systematic thinking. Conclusions. The authors have revealed the main factors and interrelations of the effectiveness and efficiency of cognitive development in the current conditions of digitalization of educational processes.

Studying spatial orientation and constructive praxis disorders in normally developing and mentally retarded children aged 8-11 years

Studying spatial orientation and constructive praxis disorders in normally developing and mentally retarded children aged 8-11 years

Author(s): Tereza Yurevna Azatyan,Olga Yuryevna Piskun / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2023

The ability to orientate oneself in space is one of the basic requirements for the harmonious development of a person. The problem of human orientation in space is very complex. It includes both ideas about the size and shape of objects and the ability to distinguish the location of objects in space, and understanding different spatial relationships. The concept of spatial orientation includes the evaluation of distances, sizes, shapes, mutual position of objects and their position relative to the orienting object. Spatial orientation is significantly impaired in mentally handicapped children, since the impairment of mental development not only limits their motor activity, but also negatively affects the development of time representations, musculoskeletal functions and leads to a decrease in compensatory processes. The purpose of this study is to identify spatial orientation and constructive praxis disorders in normally developing and mentally retarded children aged 8-11 years. Materials and Methods. The methodological basis of this research investigation was scholarly literature devoted to studying nervous functions in children with mental development disorders and interhemispheric asymmetry of the brain, regulation of these functions, identifying difficulties, modeling the system of work with these children and constructive praxis disorders in normally developing and mentally retarded children aged 8-11 years (Boguslavskaya, Miroshnichenko, 2019, Maryutina, Yermolaev 2001, Reuter-Lorenz and others, 2000, Azatyan2022). The study was conducted in the research laboratory of the Faculty of Special and Inclusive Education at the Armenian State Pedagogical University after Kh. Abovyan and research laboratory in Armenian state institute of physical culture and sport. A total of 131 children aged between 8 and 11 years participated in the study, including 73 healthy schoolchildren and 58 children with mild mental retardation. The degree of intellectual disability was assessed based on medical indications, degree of social adjustment, level of intellectual functioning, and learning outcomes in special education classes. Each category of participants was divided into 2 age groups: 8-9 years old and 10-11 years old. Results. The article discusses the main issues of studies of spatial orientation and constructive praxis in normally developing and mentally retarded children aged between 8 and 11 years, provides a scientific rationale for the problem, taking into account previous research investigations. However, the problem of mentally retarded and normally developing children in this age group remains virtually unexplored. Analysis of research findings allows the authors to identify and summarize the following important points: - mentally handicapped primary school children lag behind their healthy peers in all indicators examined; - 8- and 9-year-olds have less developed practical spatial orientation skills than their older peers; - Intellectually disabled peers have underdeveloped spatial orientation skills and constructive practice, making it difficult to understand spatial relationships between objects. The experimental study of task performance revealed interesting data, which will serve as a basis for developing the necessary means, methods and conditions for the development of elementary practical orientation in mentally disabled primary schoolchildren. The authors have uncovered violations of spatial orientation and constructive praxis in normally developing and intellectually disabled children aged 8-11 years that highlight the limited and incomplete verbalization of spatial relationships of objects in intellectually disabled children. The listed errors in general are reduced to the use by mentally retarded schoolchildren of imprecise, vague spatial characteristics instead of more differentiated ones. Conclusions. Thus, the results of the conducted experimental research testify to the insufficient development of the elementary practical orientation and understanding of the spatial relationships of objects in mentally retarded children of primary school age.

The Development of Assertiveness of the Individual as a Subject of Communication

The Development of Assertiveness of the Individual as a Subject of Communication

Author(s): Leonid Nikolaiev,Svitlana Herasina,Olena Hrechanovska,Olha Vlasenko,Serhii Skliarenko,Kateryna Hrande / Language(s): English Issue: 2/2023

The problem of socialization of the younger generation in general and the development of assertiveness of the individual as a subject of communication, in particular, becomes especially relevant against the background of radical changes in social, political and economic life. The immaturity of the individual's ability to set and implement their own goals and aspirations leads to dissatisfaction with life, the emergence of social fear. Considering the development of assertiveness in neuropsychology, the emphasis is on working with the behavioral and motivational-value range of the individual, which indicates the difficulty of differentiating manifestations of self-confidence and aggressiveness. For the development of confident personality behavior, numerous psychological programs of active social psychological training offer trainings. The purpose is to theoretically identify and empirically investigate the neuropsychological features of the development of assertiveness of adolescents in a children's health institution and secondary school, diagnose neuropsychological factors and present the most pronounced individual psychological qualities of adolescents, which should be identified as psychological reasons that determine the development of assertiveness in adolescence. At different stages of the empirical study, a number of psychodiagnostic techniques were used: the questionnaire "Diagnosis of the assertiveness level"; methods of diagnostics of basic values; SOINT questionnaire; associative experiment with the following procedure of subjective scaling; colour test of relations, test-questionnaire "Emotional orientation"; level of subjective control; personal questionnaire of R. Kettell.

Perceived Paternal Acceptance–Rejection among Female Survivors of Domestic Violence

Perceived Paternal Acceptance–Rejection among Female Survivors of Domestic Violence

Author(s): Nadia Koltcheva,Petya Milcheva / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2023

This study examines the relationship between perceived paternal acceptance–rejection in childhood and the tendency to engage in abusive relationships in female adults. The sample consisted of 60 adult females aged 23–58 (M=37.95; SD=8.102): 30 survivors of domestic violence and 30 randomly selected participants. The data were collected through self-assessment questionnaires: (1) Adult Parental Acceptance–Rejection Questionnaire/Control (mother and father versions); and (2) Adult Personality Assessment Questionnaire. The results show that perceived paternal and maternal rejection in childhood is significantly higher in female survivors of domestic violence than in the control group. The female victims also perceived their fathers as significantly more rejecting than their mothers. The level of psychological adjustment correlates positively with the perceived acceptance by both parents. The results are discussed within the framework of IPARTheory.
