Author(s): Valeriy Efremov / Language(s): Russian Issue: 4/2017

At first the article is devoted to describing the specifics of Internet language per se. Secondly, it analyses the activities of grammar nazi in the verbal aggression aspect. As a result it is concluded that the main purpose of grammar-Nazis is to humiliate an opponent due to persecution on the grounds of his/her language and speech, but not to defend the purity and beauty of the native language. Carl Friedrich Rammelsberg and the Early Diffusion of the Periodic Table of Dmitri Mendeleev

Author(s): Pierre-Léonard Zaffalon / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2017

When Dmitri Mendeleev (1834 – 1907) proposed his periodic law in 1869 on a pedagogical purpose, few teachers were enthusiastic. However, as early as 1873, a manual of chemistry already reproduced his periodic table. A renowned German chemist wrote it: Carl Friedrich Rammelsberg (1813 – 1899). With the exception of the chemists involved in the classification of the elements, he was, as far as we know, the first to present the periodic table of Mendeleev in a textbook.

На границата на интердисциплинарния подход към историята – насилието и някои ключови моменти от европейското минало през призмата на един опит за историко-психологически анализ

Author(s): Dimitar Petkov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 1/2018

The methods of the historical analysis are not sufficient to explain the past, because there is no history without psychology and there is no psychology without history. That is the main thesis of the present article. From that point of view, the author proposes an interdisciplinary explanation of the key moments from the European history, which combine the historical with psychological, as well as the philosophical analysis. These moments are: the rise of European civilization / the domination of European civilization over the rest of the world, the war and the violence that this civilization produces as a destructive force. The author tries to explain the destructive moments in the European history by means of the archetype “shadow”, which Carl Gustav Jung uses as а part of his theory for the collective unconscious. In the analyses some of Sigmund Freud’s opinions for the violence of the Human nature are used. On the base of the interdisciplinary analysis the author tries to explain the co-existence of creative and destructive principles in the course of the development of European society.

Семантични релации в рамките на многократнатa хиперонимия в Уърднет

Author(s): Svetla Koeva,Valentina Stefanova,Dimitar Hristov / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 4/2018

The article proposes a description of the semantics and properties of the main semantic relation – hypernymy, between noun synonym sets in Wordnet (lexical-semantic network in which words are linked with the semantic relations between concepts to which they refer). The relation instance hypernymy is also presented, connecting proper noun synonym sets and synonym sets denoting classes, which describe a given named object. In this article the multiple hypernymy cases are analysed. Based on the hypothesis that one synonym set cannot be related to more than one hypernym, other semantic relations are defined in the scope of multiple hypernymy: origin, form and function, as well as the relation true hypernymy. Tests for the identification of new relations are presented together with some examples. The overall conclusion is that multiple hypernymy embraces several semantic relations which, in turn, are only partially shown within the Wordnet structure.

Risk Factors for Early School Leaving in Bulgaria

Author(s): Petar Valkov,Elena Lavrentsova / Language(s): English Issue: 7/2019

In the paper attention is drawn to the phenomenon of early school leaving, which is regarded through the prism of the stratification mechanisms in the field of secondary school education in Bulgaria. A special emphasis is placed on educational segregation, related to a widening of the gap between different types of Bulgarian schools. The authors present the data of an empirical study on the opinions of secondary school students in Bulgaria about the early school leaving phenomenon, attempting to highlight a number of risk determinants that trigger school failure as a consequence of certain life and educational trajectories. It is emphasized that both a profound understanding of the risk factors, associated with early school leaving, and potential remedies should be considered in the context of a much broader socio-structural framework and a horizon of sociocultural meanings, including those, related to ethnicity. The paper concludes with a description of some main tools for prevention within the socio-existential perspective.

Speech Disfluencies of Preschool-age Children Who Do and Do Not Stutter

Author(s): Yulia O. Filatova,Dobrinka Georgieva / Language(s): English Issue: 5/2019

The purpose of the present study was to determine (i) the frequency of normal disfluency (ND) and stuttered disfluency (SD) in young children who stutter (CWS) and who do not stutter (CWNS) and (ii) whether SD serves as a risk factor for stuttering in CWNS. Participants were 30 preschool-age CWS (n = 14) and CWNS (n = 16). The speech (dis)fluency of all participants was measured from 100 words selected from samples of each child’s conversation and storytelling using the Vanderbilt University (Nashville, TN, USA) Disfluency Count Sheet. Results indicated that CWS, when compared to CWNS, significantly differed in stuttered but not in non-stuttered disfluencies. Within-group analysis indicated that CWS exhibited a significant relation between total speech disfluencies and an index of stuttering severity and that a relatively few CWNS (n = 4) exhibited a percentage of total and stuttered disfluencies within the lower ends of the distribution for CWS. Findings appear to suggest that inclusion of the Vanderbilt Disfluency Count Sheet as part of a comprehensive diagnostic assessment of childhood stuttering helps fine-tune such assessment through consideration of both ND and SD in a child’s speech as well as the ratio between these measures of disfluency.

Училищна превенция на употребата на психоактивни вещества при ученици от V – VII клас

Author(s): Penka Kozhuharova / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 8/2019

The aim of the study is to explore the trends in the alcohol and drug abuse among students from 5-th to 7-th grade and, subsequently, to define problematic areas as well as the appropriate interventions for the implementation of a prevention school-based program in this setting. The program builds on an on-going three year prevention among teenagers. It is run by a team of teachers, experts and young volunteers. The structure and the aspects of the program are presented. In 2017, the study was conducted by using standardized questionnaires and an intervention in a group of 1,396 7-th grade students from 36 schools in the South-Eastern Region of Bulgaria. Their results have been compared with a control group of 7-th grade students. The selected indicators for the assessment of the tobacco and alcohol abuse were: frequency of use, age at first alcohol or tobacco use, use patterns, and sexual development. Furthermore, risk factors as well as protective factors associated with the peers groups and family environment have been studied. Pedagogical aspects in the implementation of the school-based program were addressed by the awareness and attitudes of students towards drug abuse, a dedicated curriculum, methods and forms of preventive action. In conclusion, the established program managed to: reduce the proportion of students who smoke occasionally; delay the first tobacco use; decrease the rates of tobacco use when meeting peers. Although there was no significant overall difference between the two groups in the frequency of alcohol use, the frequency of alcohol abuse at parties decreased significantly; a higher proportion of students in the intervention group claimed not having friends who have ever tried drugs.

Иновации в сегрегираното образование – готов ли е учителят

Author(s): Yossif Nunev / Language(s): Bulgarian Issue: 9/2019

Innovation in education is not a new phenomenon in Bulgarian education. In the past, innovative solutions in educational institutions have been neglected or even totally ignored by educational authorities. Nowadays, however, they are part of the state policy and are directly dependent on the area where the school is located, the ethnocultural composition of the pupils, the number of its pupils, the social status and activity of the parents, the support of the institutions and the society. In this sense, we have to pay tribute to the role of the pedagogical specialist and place it at the epicenter of innovative solutions in the educational environment. Moreover, we must not forget that it is precisely the teacher who must know the needs of his students, be boundlessly motivated to experiment and show creativity, constantly enrich his experience and to do his best when immersed in practice. The presented material analyzes the results from a survey of pedagogical specialists working in two of the largest schools with Roma students in Sofia. The basis of this questionnaire is their confidence, conviction and faith in the innovativeness of their activities in the process of education and socialization of Roma students.
