Faiz Oranı, Ülke Kredi Riski ve Döviz Kurunun Turizm Hisselerine Etkisi: Gelişmekte Olan Ülke Türkiye Örneği (Borsa İstanbul Turizm Endeksinde Bir Uygulama)

Faiz Oranı, Ülke Kredi Riski ve Döviz Kurunun Turizm Hisselerine Etkisi: Gelişmekte Olan Ülke Türkiye Örneği (Borsa İstanbul Turizm Endeksinde Bir Uygulama)

Although technological developments facilitate access to information, the rapidly accessible information has become one of the determining factors in the movements of economic and financial markets. Such that the effects of the disclosed information on financial and capital markets can be instantaneous, and the impact of the relevant information on financial assets is observed for a certain period of time, either directly or indirectly. In the study, the benchmark interest (Turkey 2-year government bond rate) from macroeconomic factors, the 5-year credit default swap premium (Credit Default Swap – CDS) which is Turkey's credit risk indicator, and the euro exchange rate, the common currency of the European Union, which covers the main markets of the tourism sector. Besides, it is examined the relations between the US dollar and tourism sector stocks, which are highly influential and essential in terms of the real economy and financial markets. In line with the purpose, in the study, long and short-term relationships were examined with cointegration and causality analyses in monthly observations, and the effects of variables on the tourism index were tried to be determined by impact-response analysis and variance decomposition test. In this study, in which the relations of the Borsa İstanbul Tourism index with the interest rate, CDS premium, euro rate and dollar rate are examined in monthly observations, it can be said that the stocks of tourism enterprises are affected by macroeconomic factors, sector and business-specific conditions other than the tested macroeconomic conditions. Tourism stocks are weakly related to the interest rate and country risk premium, as well as the euro and dollar exchange rates. Considering that the tourism sector, which has a long return on investment, is affected by many events, it can be stated that these results are appropriate with the investor risk-return expectation.

The Relationship Between Renewable Energy Consumption, Oil Price, Gold Price, Exchange Rate, and Stock Market

The Relationship Between Renewable Energy Consumption, Oil Price, Gold Price, Exchange Rate, and Stock Market

Author(s): Muhammed Fatih Yürük / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

In this study, the relationship between WTI crude oil price and the variables in which it interacts was analyzed. These variables are; Gold, Dollar Index, S&P 500 Energy, DJ Oil & Gas, and Renewable Energy Consumption. Among these variables, it has been examined whether the increase in Renewable Energy Consumption, in particular, affects crude oil prices. In the study, unit root tests of the series were made and the series was made stationary. Afterward, the appropriate number of delays was determined and the VAR model was created. After it was seen that the model met the assumptions, the impulse-response functions of the VAR model were calculated. The results of each variable were interpreted with variance decomposition analysis. The Granger causality test was performed for the status of the relationship between the variables. According to the Granger causality test results; Changes DJ in Oil & Gas index affect crude oil, changes in S&P 500 Energy and DJ Oil & Gas indices affect crude oil variable, while changes in DJ Oil & Gas and S&P 500 Energy Index affect the renewable energy consumption variable. In particular, no granger causality was found between the renewable energy consumption of crude oil and between renewable energy consumption and crude oil prices.

The aim of this study is to reveal the causality relationship between the COVID 19 epidemic and the stock market in Turkey. For this purpose, the causality relationship between daily case numbers and Borsa İstanbul (BIST 100, BIST Financial, BIST Industrial, BIST Technology and BIST Service) indices was analyzed with the Toda Yamamoto causality test. The period between March 11, 2020, when the first case was seen in Turkey, and March 7, 2022 was discussed. As a result, it has been determined that there is a one-way Granger causality relationship from the number of COVID 19 cases to the BIST indices.

The aim of this study is to determine the importance of derivative financial instruments in determining the financial performance of financial companies operating in Turkey, and the causal relationship with return on equity. For this purpose, quarterly (57 periods) data obtained from the website of the Banking Supervisory Board of the financing companies operating in the 2008Q1-2022Q1 periods were used. Derivative financial instruments for hedging purposes consist of trading transactions, forward trading transactions, swap trading transactions, trading option transactions and futures trading transactions. As a financial performance indicator; Period Net Profit (Loss)/Average Total Equity (ROE), Derivative Financial Assets / Total Equity (TFO) and Derivative Financial Liabilities / Total Equity (FYO) variables are used as derivative financial instrument variables. Toda-Yamamoto Granger Causality Test was used since it is seen that the variables are stationary at different levels, I(0), I(1) in the unit root tests for the method to be used in determining the causality relationship between the variables. In the Toda-Yamamoto (1995) Granger causality test, first of all, the appropriate lag length of the VAR model to be applied is determined by using the Wald test. In order to determine whether the established VAR model is valid or not, 4 different diagnostic tests are applied. As a result of the tests performed, ıt has been determined that there is no granger causality from TFO to ROE, no granger causality from FYO to ROE, no granger causality from ROE to TFO, no granger causality from FYO to TFO, no Granger causality from ROE to FYO. It was observed that there was Granger causality at the 10% significance level from TFO to FYO. This result shows that financing companies cannot use derivative financial instruments efficiently to increase the return on equity.

Author(s): Emine Kaya,Ömer Kaya / Language(s): Turkish Publication Year: 0

Today, the main purpose of companies is to maximize the value of the company, which takes into account both the risk and time factor. This purpose necessitates taking decisions in a way that will maximize the market value of the company's stocks. One of the most important factors affecting the value maximization is the capital structure, in other words, the financing mix. Capital structure expresses the composition of resources used by companies to finance their assets. Considering the cost of each resource used in the financing of assets, the creation of an optimum capital structure for companies has a significant impact on firm value. Many theories have been developed in order to determine the optimum capital structure of companies. In this research, first of all, capital structure, capital cost and factors affecting capital structure are discussed in the theoretical framework, and then classical and modern capital structure theories are explained.

Capital intensity is a concept related to the dependence of production processes on capital. High capital intensity can increase company risk and therefore affect stock returns. In this study, the long-term effect of capital intensity, calculated by the ratio of fixed assets to number of employees, on stock returns was examined. The returns are represented by the total return index. Additionally, in the model, the ratio of total debt to equity, which represents the financial leverage ratio, and total assets, which represents the size of the company, are used as explanatory variables. 14 manufacturing companies listed on the Istanbul Stock Exchange were examined between 2000 and 2021 for this purpose. After the second-generation cointegration test, a long-term relationship was identified and long-term coefficients were estimated with the use of AMG and PMG estimators. The estimation results show that capital intensity significantly and negatively affects stock returns in the long term. Furthermore, it has been found that in the long term, financial leverage ratio has a negative effect on returns, while the size of the company has a positive effect. The results show that investors should consider the capital intensity levels of companies when making investment decisions, and that companies should manage their capital intensity levels well and avoid investments that would increase it.

İslami Finans Yöntemleri

İslami Finans Yöntemleri

Author(s): Mehmet Bükey,Yavuz Türkan / Language(s): Turkish Publication Year: 0

In this study, Islamic finance methods that are operated according to Islamic principles will be introduced. As it is known, Islamic finance methods, unlike traditional finance methods, are not a financial activity but a commercial method. Financing in Islamic finance is based on the profit share principle, not the interest principle of traditional finance. Islamic finance methods include different financing techniques to meet the needs of Islamic entrepreneurs who want to meet their financing needs. In these techniques, money is not seen as capital or as an income generating tool. Money is accepted as a means of exchange and a unit of measurement in the valuation of commercial activities, productivity and increase in social welfare. In Islamic finance methods, financing is provided for the purchase of investments, goods, services or fixed assets. Financial transactions are in no way based on mutual monetary transactions. Monetary transactions are made in return for goods or services and do not include interest. At the same time, all transactions do not contain any uncertainty. In the study, Islamic finance methods are discussed under the title of four basic methods. These basic methods are Support Methods, Trading Methods, Partnership Methods and Other Financing Methods.

Author(s): Emine Beyza Satoğlu / Language(s): Turkish Publication Year: 0

This work describes the transformations in the understanding of globalization that have arisen in the fifteen years following the 2008 global crisis caused by uncertainty and disruptions in global trade. Global markets have been negatively affected by the 2008 Great Recession, the EU-Brexit process, trade wars between the United States and China, lockdown measures during the pandemic, and finally, the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war in the middle of Europe. As a result of the uncertainty and disruptions in the markets during this period, the average annual growth in international trade volumes has decreased compared to previous periods of globalization. Ongoing supply chain problems, increases in production costs, and rising protectionism support the idea that globalization, as we know it, will come to an end.

The US-Chinese rivalry has been a strategic challenge for South Korea for years. Seoul, however, is used to balancing between powers and avoiding the firm support of one side - the most important ally or the largest economic partner. The Korean hedging strategy was based on the paradigm developed over the years: "Security is the United States, the economy is China." Based on "strategic ambiguity" and "balanced diplomacy", this concept separated the spheres of cooperation with the superpowers. However, the intensifying rivalry between the superpowers and the global situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic or Russian aggression against Ukraine changed this paradigm to "security is the United States, the economy is the national interest." The new approach does not mean a departure from hedging against superpowers but points to the need to re-evaluate relations with China. In its strategy, South Korea also seeks greater autonomy from the superpowers in the realm of economic security.

An enduring feature of EU competition law is the understanding of the competition as a process resulting from the exercise of freedom of choice by market actors. The present research examines what this freedom involves and establishes its role in creating the concept of abuse of a dominant position. It is concluded that this concept is based on ordoliberal thoughts of the Austrian School of Economics.

Russia can easily continue to destabilize the region and sabotage the desire of the countries of the region to become members of the European Union, which they have long sought. The Western Balkans could become a source of trouble if Moscow tries to further destabilize the region as a result of the war in Ukraine. Russia considers both Ukraine and the Western Balkans as a buffer zone, where it can maintain spheres of influence and through them undermine the EU.

The article is an attempt to analyze the American policy in the Black Sea region in relation to the events in Ukraine that occurred in this country after 2014, and especially after the start of the military conflict in the former Soviet republic, inspired by the intervention of the United States in the internal affairs of official Kyiv. A brief review of the naval potential of the Black Sea states is made to outline the balance of power in the Black Sea. Attention was also paid to the Montreux Convention, as well as to Turkey's intention to build the so-called „Istanbul Canal“. Based on these and other circumstances, an analysis of American policy in the region has been synthesized - the countries that move in parallel with it are listed, the methods of its implementation are indicated, some predictions are made about the result of state dominance in countries such as Bulgaria, Georgia and Romania etc. The measures taken by Russia and Turkey to maintain their influence in the Black Sea are also summarized in a concise but clear form.

Author(s): Stefka Velichkova Bangova / Language(s): English,Bulgarian Publication Year: 0

The management and functioning of the system for the protection of the national security of the Republic of Bulgaria are responsible for various state bodies and institutions specified in Chapter Two of the Law on the Management and Functioning of the System for the Protection of the National Security, as well as other bodies indirectly charged with functions in the field of security pursuant to other legal acts. Under „subjects of national security“ we can understand the state bodies and structures that carry out diplomatic, defense, intelligence, counter-intelligence, operative-search, law enforcement and security activities. These bodies and structures were created on the basis of specific legal acts, defining their essence, purpose, composition, management, activity and powers. National security decisions can be the result of various types of processes, but ultimately they must be rational in nature. This means that the decision-makers choose the ways and forms of action that are most appropriate in order to achieve national interests and stated goals.

Oscillating Between Securitization and Transactionalism: The Everlasting Drama of Turkey-West Relations

Author(s): Alper Kaliber / Language(s): English Publication Year: 0

Turkish foreign policy (TFP) has undergone dramatic changes throughout the decades of the Justice and Development Party (Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi, AKP) rule which has been continuing since November 2002. If one should cite a constant feature of TFP, it is its ever-increasing significance for the AKP leaders to promote their political agenda in Turkey’s domestic politics. Once a trademark of AKP’s anti-Kemalist upheaval against the civilian and military wings of the Turkish political establishment, foreign policy has then “become an integral part of the AKP’s conservative social engineering efforts and the main hallmark of its populism, with a range of significant political and economic implications”. While the latest general election in May 2023 paved the way for the third decade of the AKP rule, foreign policy has remained central to its agenda and discourse. The AKP leaders, and most notably President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, have deemed foreign policy as integral part of their power struggle against both the secular wing of bureaucracy and the opposition in Turkey, and never shied away from instrumentalizing it for their domestic political ambitions. As populist tendencies increasingly characterised the AKP rule in its second decade, securitization has come to dominate foreign policy making and discourse in the country.

Kulturní rozměr české zahraniční politiky

Kulturní rozměr české zahraniční politiky

Author(s): Eliška Tomalová,Jana Peterková / Language(s): Czech Publication Year: 0

Author(s): Ondřej Horký-Hlucháň / Language(s): Czech Publication Year: 0

EUR.
