Based on the analysis of examples from Croatian National Corpus, the article brings a semantic and functional definition of Future II. In temporal clauses, this tense denotes future action but it doesn’t indicate its sequence in relation to the action in the main clause. In conditional, relative, place, manner, quantity and comparative clauses Future II denotes priority and concurrency, whereas Future I indicates future subsequence. In concessive-relative clauses Future II also denotes future priority and concurrency, but in these sentences the use of Future I is not possible.

The article discusses the analysis of particles in modern grammars of the Croatian language. The differences in the analysis suggest that it is difficult to give a comprehensive grammatical description of this complex part of speech. Grammatical descriptions are viewed from the aspect of classification, according to the application of classification criteria, and according to sub-criteria used to explain the characteristics of words belonging to the particle group.

The article deals with the instrumental case of singular i-type nouns regarding the already existing endings -i and -ju in standard Croatian. It is known that both endings are used in standard Croatian language, although the ending -i has recently been used more frequently than the ending -ju. We were interested in the situation with Old-Štokavian speeches of the Slavonski Brod – Posavina County, since they represent the most archaic Old-Štokavian speeches, which can well present some historical linguistic changes to all linguists, especially to language historians. The material was recorded in eight villages surrounding Slavonski Brod: four villages from the first Ivšić group, three from the fourth, and one from the fifth Ivšić group. The conclusion based on the recordings is that the Old-Štokavian speeches still often use the ending -ju together with the ending -i, and that there is some usage of the ending -om deriving from the a-inflection. There are neither any strict divisions nor rules suggesting the usage of one or the other ending.

The paper is searching for the causes and possible solutions for open questions and oscillations of the long reflection of yat in monosyllabic masculine nouns in plural cases with -ov- /-ev-, which have been especially emphasized in both theory and practice. Finally, two accentual and declensional patterns are proposed into which the corpus of monosyllabic masculine nouns is fitted.

In this paper the relationship between the notions of „standard language“ (standardni jezik) and „literary“ or „written language“ is briefly discussed because it continues to induce misunderstandings in Croatian linguistic discourse. They are not synonyms because the standard language is a literary or written language, but not every literary language is a standard language. Standard language is the most highly developed form of a literary or written language. Therefore, standard and literary have to be distinguished and denoted by different terms.

Dosad je u njoj odgovoreno na dvjestotinjak pitanja i koliko znam, sva su pitanja postavili čitatelji Jezika ili prijatelji hrvatskoga jezika, nismo ih izmišljali radi rubrike. Obwohl Matko Laginja der Ausbildung nach kein Sprachwissenschaftler, sondern Rechtsanwalt, über alles bedeutender Politiker und Anhänger der kroatischen nationalen Wiedergeburtsbewegung in Istrien und danach auch Schriftsteller (Erzähler, Komödienschreiber, Dichter) und Rechtswissenschaftler war, lässt sich trotzdem die Geschichte und Entwicklung der kroatischen Sprache auf dem Gebiet Istriens im zwanzigsten Jahrhundert ohne Laginjas gesamten öffentlichen Arbeitsbereich nicht vortrefflich und im Ganzen verstehen. In dieser Arbeit werden deshalb die Laginjas Ansichten über die Rolle der kroatischen Sprache vom volkstümlichen Leben, in Verbindung zwischen der Standardsprache und der tschakawischen Mundart, sowie die Ansichten der Sprache zum Literaturwerk dargelegt. Auf den von Laginja und deren Zeitgenossen erzielten Gedanken und Verwirklichungen wird der jüngere Nachwuchs, vor allem Mate Balota, Zvane Črnja und andere heranwachsen.

The paper brings historical, social and political facts about the creation of the more recent and contemporary Croatian orthographies. The author sets out from the fact that the authorization of orthography is a political act and, in that sense, suggests that orthographies can be a hot potato in the minister’s hands, because orthography is, especially nationally and politically, a very delicate issue in Croatia.

In this discussion it is shown what linguistic questions are implicitly touched by the Declaration and that it contests the neo-grammarian criteria for the identity of written languages, which remained overwhelmingly influential until today. In order to know what the Croatian written language, including its standard form, really is, it is necessary to renounce to the dialectal monism that was until now imposed by its theory and to apply dialectal pluralism in which this literary language was dialectally stylized in different ways until it eventually received its standard neoštokavian jekavian stylization.
