The Effect of Psychological Empowerment on Organizational Silence in Hotels

The aim of this study is to determine whether psychological empowerment (PE) is related with or have any effects on organizational silence (OS) in hotel enterprises. Relevant data was collected via questionnaire forms from 348 employees of five star hotels operating in Antalya. To test the hypothesis of the study Correlation and Regression Analyses were performed. Findings of the study basically indicate that PE applications have relatively weak effect on OS. The results show that only selfdetermination dimension of PE has a significant effect on OS, while the other dimensions have no effect on OS.

The concept of entrepreneurship both brings solution to the socio-economic problems of many developing countries such as unemployment, job creation, increasing the production and contributes to the national vision on an international platform. One of the most important institutions that contribute to the national vision is the universities. In this context, seeing and guiding the university students as potential entrepreneurs is of particular importance within the framework of national vision and problems. The main aim of the study is to reveal the effects of the entrepreneurship courses on the entrepreneurship orientation of the students. For this purpose, Pamukkale University conducted a field study with students taking entrepreneurship courses in Honaz Vocational School. First of all, concepts on entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial personality are described in the study. Then, statistical analysis was conducted in the context of entrepreneurial personality traits by examining the aspects of tolerance to uncertainty, risk-taking, innovation, creativity, independence, need for achievement, relationship with people, internal locus of control among the students. Consequently, the level of impact of the entrepreneurship courses on the entrepreneurship orientation of the students was determined.

There are several factors that affect risk taking decisions of investors. Leading among those factors are demographic characteristics of investors. Preceding studies have shown that variables as age, sex, income, employment etc. have effects on financial risk perception. In this study, 327 students enrolled in various departments of Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Pamukkale University were surveyed. Data acquired from the surveys was applied both logistical regression and non-parametric tests to determine variables that affect financial risk perception. According to the results acquired from logistical regression analysis effect of the sex variable on financial risk perception was found to be statistically significant, revealing that males are more eager to take risks when compared to females. From the results of non-parametric test results it was understood that total household income, in addition to sex, has a significant effect on financial risk tolerance score and subjects are more ready to take risk as their household income increases.

The main purpose of this study is to investigate environmental, social, and economic sustainability statements on sustainability reports of the 100 largest industrial companies which are determined by İstanbul Chamber of Industry in 2013 in Turkey. Industrial enterprises were chosen as the sample group of this study because of their effects on the country’s created value added and the greatest environmental impacts on the total produced wasted. The analysis showed that 21 enterprises have sustainability reports. Within these 21 enterprises, climate, emissions, and greenhouse gas effects on the context of environmental sustainability; safety and occupational health of employees, talent management, and education for social investment of the context of social sustainability; and the financial data on the context of economic sustainability took first place.

This study aims to investigate the impact of cooperative or competitive organizational culture and employees’ job related affective well being on their preferred conflict resolution styles. A total of 236 white collar employees in the private sector completed questionnaires on “Organizational Culture“, “Job Related Affective Well Being“ and “Conflict Resolution Styles“. Results indicated that employees working in a cooperative organizational culture would choose problem solving, compromising and accomodating conflict resolution styles while those working in a competitive work environment would choose forcing and avoiding strategies. Results also showed that while positive job related affective well being is a major predictor of problem solving, compromising, accomodating and avoiding conflict resolution styles, negative job related affective well being significantly predicts forcing and avoiding strategies. Overall, the results draw attention to the preferred conflict resolution strategies assumed by Turkish employees, the role of the conflict environment as well as actors’ affective well being.

In this study, due to the influence of Mobbing (MO) on Burnout (BU), the mediating role of Job Stress (JS) on employees is examined. Hence, 826 employees of public and private institutions in Ankara were included in the sample. The data obtained by a questionnaire that prepared by Leymann (1996)’s MO scale, and Maslach (1981)'s BU scale and Haynes (1996)'s JS scale. Data was evaluated by using One-Way ANOVA, correlation, regression, and multiple regression SPSS. As can be seen from the results of research, applied and perceived MO has a significant impact on employees' JS’s levels and becomes effective in the creation of JS. On the other hand, BU syndrome were seen as a consequence of the resulting JS. These conditions affect each other and existence of one within the organizational structure, results in the emergence of the other two. Therefore, management of organization, all levels of managers, and employees as individuals should be aware of these psychological states and conduct studies aimed for its prevention.In this research, meaningful relationships have been identified in the mediating role of JS at the impact of MO on BU. On the other hand in terms of demographic variables, significant variations were found in the levels of MO, BU, and JS.

Qualified employees has an undeniable a place and importance in the labor-intensive tourism sector to achieve competitive advantage, improve service and product quality, carry out sustainable development. As well qualified employees increase the competitiveness of countries in the international market. Providing opportunities for using qualified employees’ full potential is an important method in obtaining competitive advantage of the company. In this context, the main aim of the research is to determine the impact of self-efficacy on organizational silence. Sub-objectives of this research is to determine employees’ ideas and thoughts which provide contribution to business, whether there is a difference among employees’ perceptions of organizational silence and perceptions of self efficacy according to employees’ demographic and occupational characteristics. The research data were obtained by the survey carried out in the accommodation businesses. On the basis of the quantitative paradigm, descriptive research model, comparative model, the relational model and the relational model approaches are used. The findings of the research pointed out that perception of self-efficacy had decisive influence on organizational silence. As a result of research was determined that employees, who have low self-efficacy, was in silent by not expressing ideas and thought and employees, who have high self-efficacy, did not hesitate to share their ideas and thoughts.

The establishments that provide service for accounting systems by utilizing the cloud computing opportunities in accounting field need to consider the general and country-specific risks of cloud computing technology. Therefore, they need to build the necessary technical infrastructure and models in order to run the system flawlessly and to preserve the digital data of the establishments in a secure environment.

Those who were born between 1980 and 2000 and nearly consist more than of 30% of the Turkish population are called Gen-Yers. Gen Yers are described as independent, entrepreneurial, self-confident individuals who expect to succeed in a short period of time, like freedom and flexibility, dislike micromanagement, have individual decision-making mechanisms and are good at using information technology. This research aims to investigate what kind of a leadership profile university students, most of whom are Gen Yers, desire to have under the effect of their academicians and parents, and whether charismatic or intellectual effect is higher in terms of demographic variables. As a result of the Factor Analysis, T test and ANOVA analyses, differences have been found regarding leadership characteristics in terms of gender and education variables, whereas no differences have been found according to age, income, consumption, region and educational status of parents.

Tourism sector is one of the important sectors in Turkey. Corporate governance is an important tool to increase the efficiency of tourism sector. An effective internal audit helps to improve the effectiveness of corporate governance in tourism sector. The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between corporate governance and the internal audit at four-star and five-star hotels in Marmaris. First, corporate governance and internal control concepts have been discussed within the scope of the literature. Next, in the application part, for the purpose of our study, four-star and five-star hotels were selected in Marmaris region. A survey was conducted on the hotel managers. The data set is analyzed by using SPSS. The results show significant relationship between internal control and corporate governance. In addition, hotel managements recognize the importance of the both the basic principles of corporate governance and internal audit activities.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of leader-member exchange to burnout syndrome in different organizational cultures. Sample of the study is constituted by 183 participants who work in life insurance companies which represent organic organizational culture and non-life insurance companies which represent mechanical organizational culture. As a result of regression and correlation analysis, it is determined that leader-member exchange in organic organizational culture affects organizational culture negatively and in higher level compared to mechanical organizational cultures.

The aim of this study is determine the effect of organizational justice on professional burnout at five-star hotels in Kemer, which is a major tourist destination. In this regard, questionnaire was applied to a total of 424 employees working in five star hotels in Kemer. The relationship between participants' perceptions of organizational justice and professional burnout levels was determined by correlation and regression analysis. As a result of the study, it was identified that there is a moderate negative relationship between professional burnout and organizational justice.

The aim of this study is to figure out the determinants that explain the economic growth for EU27 countries and Turkey for the years 2000-2011. The database consists of GDP, population, total local credits to GDP, private sector credits to GDP, foreign trade to GDP, consumer inflation and total savings to GNI. Initially, unit root tests such as LLC and Hadri are implemented. Then, Breusch-Pagan LM, Breusch-Pagan/CookWeisberg LM and White tests are run for heterogeneity and Wooldridge (2000) test for autocorrelation. Static panel regression have been used to analysis. As a result of the analysis, economic growth has been explained by human capital, credits providing by banking sector, inflation, financial development and savings.

To attain customer satisfaction at the offered product and services to customers are leading activity which increase profit rates in hotel enterprises. The level of employees’ communication competence with customers is one of the important activity which cause customer satisfaction at hotel prises. The aim of this study was to evaluate hotel employees communication competence by the hotel customers who have gotton higher education and also to identify whether do customers’ gender higher education level and occupation any effect of the evaluation of employees level of communication competence.To perform of this aim, the questionnaire form was filled out to 400 hotel customers who stayed at 7 different hotels at Gaziantep region. According to the result, the communication competence level of employees was found as good, while customers gender and higher education level did not have any effect to evaluate employees level of communication competence at the hotel enterprises. However, It was found that customers’ occupation was an effect to evaluate employees level of communication competence by the hotel customers.

First academic studies in logistics can be seen in mid twentieth century. “Transportation Journal” is the first of its scope, was published in 1961. After that, other journals such as “International Journal of Logistics Management, Journal of Business Logistics” were published (Gravier and Farris, 2008). At the same period, associations which bring scientists, sector representatives together were established. First academic study goes back to 1850’s, when Henry Adams, who was president of Yale University, offered the course “Economics of Transport” (Farris, 1997). In this study, our country’s academic perspective of logistics science will be determined by content analysis method in national publications between the years of 1980-2011. All scientific researches that have been conducted in Turkey about “Logistics”, are searched in YÖK Electronic Theses archive and local indexes. The distribution of data obtained is analyzed according to publishing years, universities/institutes, languages, keywords, research scopes, and subjects’ trends of change are determined.

This study explored the nature of environmental attitudes of travel agents and investigated the relationship of educational level and business experience to their views on 27 environment related issues that are connected with sustainability. Data were collected from 1620 travel agents in Turkey. It was found that considerable numbers of travel agents had environmentally friendly views in respect to the factors contributing to the environmental problems, outcomes of environmental protection activities, importance of environmental criteria and environmental sensitivity of public sector, private sector and NGOs. Chi-square analyses to test the two hypotheses did not provide support for all 27 items. However, travel agents with higher education and long business experience in tourism sector hold generally more sensitive views toward environmental issues and sustainable tourism.

The main aim of the present study is to find out the relationships between, positive and negative affectivity, physical activity, personal level aggressiveness - organization level aggressiveness and mediation effect of physical activity. The universe of the research is employees of Kayseri Organized Industrial Zone businesses in which physical activity is done. The size of the research is 273. According to the results, there is a significant and negative oriented relationship between positive affectivity and individual level aggressiveness. There is a significant and positive oriented relationship between negative affectivity and individual level aggressiveness. There is a significant and positive oriented relationship between positive affectivity and physical activity. There is a significant and negative oriented relationship between negative affectivity and physical activity. There is a significant and negative oriented relationship between physical activity and individual level aggressiveness. There is a significant and positive oriented relationship between individual level aggressiveness and organization level aggressiveness. Separately physical activity has a significant mediation role between positive-negative affectivity and individual level aggressiveness.

The aim of this study is to examine the short and long term relations between exchange rate and consumer confidence index. In the study, two variables in total are discussed as consumer confidence index and dollar selling rate and a data set consisting of 95 observations in a monthly frequency spanning the 2003:12-2011:12 period is applied for each variable within the analysis. The consumer confidence index is based on the index prepared by Turkey Statistics Institution (TSI) and Republic of Turkey Central Bank (RTCB). As for exchange rate the monthly average value of the Dollar selling rate is taken as basis. Examined the empirical findings obtained, it is observed that there is both a short-term and a long-term relation between consumer confidence index and exchange rate within the period investigated in Turkey. The findings can be interpreted in a way as that the exchange rate is one of the factors that shape consumers’ expectations regarding the future of the economy.

The purpose of this research is to determine whether there exists any difference between the life quality conditions of the employees working in city and resort hotels. Additionally, another purpose is to determine the elements which the employees mostly care about. Quantitative part of the study region, 114 in Ankara, Antalya region, was collected from 115 employees. With the help of SPSS 19 program of data analysis, paired sample t test was applied and the work with respect to quality of life and satisfaction degrees of importance have been identified. In qualitative research an interview form consisting of eight half-structured questions has been prepared. In this research, in accordance with the method of confirming and disconfirming cases sampling which is among the qualitative research methods, in total ten employees were chosen including two administrators working in five star hotel enterprises in Ankara and Antalya, and the sample of the research consisted of these employees. According to their assessments related to the responsibilities and rights of employees, it is seen that in the city hotels the rules and rights are carried out in a particular order, but in resort hotels they are not carried out regularly. Looking at the views of employees about the total life of the employees and its impact on the working life quality, it can be said that the situation is better in the city hotels. At the end of the study, it is seen that in the city hotels working life quality conditions are perceived in a higher level in comparison with those employees working in resort hotels.

Because of the consideration that staff personality characteristics effect their motivation, staff of four and five star hotels, located within the city borders of Ankara, have been given priority while determining their sociotropic-autonomic personality traits. Subsequently, motivations of the said staff have been measured in accordance with both inner and external motivation tools in order to determine whether there is an effect of sociotropical-autonomic personality traits on inner and external motivation, or not. Findings demonstrate that personal success, which can be identified as the subordinate dimension of the autonomic personality traits, effects both inner and external motivation directly and in the positive direction.
