Dwie wizje tożsamości. Szkic z ontologii społecznej

Dwie wizje tożsamości. Szkic z ontologii społecznej

Author(s): Dawid Rogacz / Language(s): Polish Issue: 10/2013

Arrangements in the field of ontology retain their importance for normative of political theory. The key problem of the ontology of social beings is human identity. This problem was raised during the debate between liberals and communitarians. Liberalism advocates the negative and formal concept of originality, evoked in modernist traditions. Communitarianism opts for the notion of identity with the values acclaimed in an individual community, which was established in the republican tradition. The final question is whether the differences between the heretics and the conventionalists are as significant as it is usually delineated.

Author(s): Magdalena Rekść / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2009

Bosnia and Hercegovina due to its geographical position and complicated past history, forcing it into the reach of influence and rivalry among several civi-lizational circles, became the conglomeration of various nationalities and ethnic groups. The bloody conflict in the years 1992–1995 proved how little suffices to turn the previously peacefully co-existing nations against each other. Multicultural-ism, admired all over the world during the Winter Olympic Games in Sarajevo 1984, transpired to be the curse when nationalistic symbolic power holders came into prominence. The paper tries to analyze the ethnic alteration in Bosnia and Hercegovina across the history, focusing mainlyon such vital moments as: the arrival of Sephardic Jews, intensified colonization during Austro-Hungarian rule, Second World War, and finally – the process of constituting the new nation – Bosniaks

Karol Marks i jego wizja społeczeństwa – „pedagogika strachu”

Author(s): Ireneusz, Marian Świtała / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2011

The author presents a concept of social utopia, which contains a characteristic happy state model, that is not built on the base of ideal communist system, but opposition of capitalism. The word “Utopia” is the name of a fantastic island where the inhabitants leading an ideal life. However, any utopia has a negative impact and is capable of doing a lot of evil, which causes the “pedagogical and social fear”, what causes – in a particular case – of “real socialism”. Marxism repeatedly pointed out throughout the utopian concept and experience of the Bolshevik Revolution. Proved incorrect predictions of Marx. Real socialism has become an anti-utopia execution, denial of noble ideas of socialism. In the context of increasing social and international problems, it is difficult to expect a return of faith in the saving power of communist theory.

Struktura narodowościowa społeczeństwa II Rzeczypospolitej w pierwszych latach niepodległego bytu państwowego

Struktura narodowościowa społeczeństwa II Rzeczypospolitej w pierwszych latach niepodległego bytu państwowego

Author(s): Zdzisław Cutter / Language(s): Polish Issue: 1/2018

The nationality issues, due to their vastness and multifacetedness, are not precisely systematically conceptually and thematically. The resulting interpretive diversity still raises a lot of controversy and generates most of the dilemmas oscillating around the concept and definition of the nation. These terms also correspond to the concepts of national and ethnic minority as well as nationalities. The basic contents of the sketch, on the other hand, concern the formation of the Polish society in the first years after regaining independence in November 1918. A reflection of this state of affairs was the making of censuses in 1921 and 1931, which characterized the national and religious relations of the Republic of Poland at the turn of the 1920s and 1930s.

Author(s): Miłosz Sosnowski / Language(s): Polish Issue: 37/2020

The holdings of the Kórnik Library include a small parchment manuscript produced in 1495/6 as a gift from an assessor in the Carinthian bishopric of Gurk, Georg Unterburger, a doctor of both laws, for the newly elected archbishop of Salzburg, Leonhard von Keutschach. Th e codex is relatively richly ornamented – with gilding – and comprises three short works by the donator: Laudatory oration for the Inauguration of the Pontifi cate [Oratio demonstrativa], A Treaty on Sacraments [Traktat o sakramentach] with a short prologue, and a Poem [Carmen] in praise of the new archbishop. With his gift , Unterburger – as he openly announces – wanted to establish a client-patron relationship with the new archbishop. Th e paper briefl y presents both these fi gures against the background of the history of the Salzburg archdiocese analyses the Oration as an example of late-Medieval humanist rhetoric and, on the basis of the subsequent history of the manuscript, refl ects on whether Unterburger managed to achieve his goal. Th e paper is accompanied by the annotated edition of Oration, prologue of the Treaty and the Poem.

CYRYLICKIE EWANGELIE Z XVI I XVII WIEKU ZE ZBIORÓW BIBLIOTEKI KÓRNICKIEJ

Author(s): Marzanna Kuczyńska,Maya Ivanova / Language(s): Polish Issue: 37/2020

The article describes two Cyrillic Gospels from the Kórnik Library: BK 11985 and BK 896. It presents the cultural context of their creation, as well as their history, content, illuminations and a short lexical description. Both codices were the result of a cultural and spiritual revival in the Orthodox Church in the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Both of them were luxury, professionally made goods; their copyists were experienced specialists. BK 896 represents a higher level of artistry. In view of their lexical characteristics, the manuscripts can be classifi ed as the third so-called Mount Athos-Tyrnovo linguistic redaction of the Gospel.

DYPLOMATYKA AKTÓW CARÓW MOSKIEWSKICH Z XVII WIEKU W ZBIORACH BIBLIOTEKI KÓRNICKIEJ

Author(s): Krzysztof Pietkiewicz / Language(s): Polish Issue: 36/2019

This article is devoted to a diplomatic (formal) analysis of 13 documents, including 12 originals issued by Russian tsars between 1576 and 1707, which are kept at the Kórnik Library. Among them, there are two original letters by Tsar Michael of Russia dating to 1634 and 1645 and four documents by Tsar Alexis of Russia from 1645 and 1668–1669. The collection also includes Peter the Great’s mandate of 1707 given to Russian negotiators for talks with representatives of the Sandomierz confederation, two extremely interesting documents (in the form of scrolls) of border-related negotiations dating to 1634 and 1645, as well as a notebook of 40 pages containing the Russian party’s proposals presented to Polish envoys during negotiations in Moscow at the turn of 1671 and 1672. The article is enriched with an analysis of the content of four well-preserved tsar’s seals applied to the documents in question.

Author(s): Kirył Koczegarow / Language(s): Polish Issue: 36/2019

During the Russian-Polish negotiations at the end of 1671 – the beginning of 1672, several Russian memorandums were handed over to Polish-Lithuanian diplomats. All these original documents are preserved in the Library of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Kórnik, Poland, and are studied as some of the most important forms of diplomatic communications between the Muscovite State and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The memorandums clearly reveal the Muscovite diplomatic tactic against the Polish-Lithuanian side. They focus on the main problems of RussianPolish relationships such as the transfer of Kiev from Russia to Poland (which had to be fulfilled in 1669 but which has never been executed), the policy towards the right-bank Ukraine hetman Piotr Doroshenko, who pledged his allegiance to the Ottoman sultan, the attack of the left-bank Ukrainian Cossacks (who were under the Thar’s rule) on the Lithuanian borderlands, and the implementing of the previous Russian-Polish anti-Ottoman treaty of 1667. It can be supposed also that the diplomatic form of the memorandum itself was borrowed by the Russian Foreign Office from the Polish-Lithuanian diplomatic tradition.

A UNIQUE EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION OF KOMOTINI/GÜMÜLCİNE: MEDRESE-İ HAYRİYYE

Author(s): Halit Eren / Language(s): English Issue: 1/2023

After the Ottoman State withdrew from Rumelia, the Turkish and Muslim communities that remained in the Balkans aimed to continue traditional Ottoman institutions or create new ones. The Treaty of Istanbul signed between the Ottoman State and Bulgaria in 1913, the Treaty of Athens with Greece, and the Treaty of Istanbul signed with Serbia in 1914 regulated the status of the existing Muslim communities and foundations in these countries. The establishment of institutions where the necessary education would be provided to fulfill the Muslims’ need for “muftis” and “nüvvâbs” (acting muftis) was also resolved with these agreements. Also, with the signing of Lausanne Treaty on 24 July 1923, Western Thrace gained a new statute. Part I, Section III of the Treaty titled “Political Provisions” contains provisions defining the statutes of the minorities under the title of “Protection of the Minorities”. The right to open, supervise and manage their own schools belongs to minorities. In accordance with this Treaty, schools established in Western Thrace will have minority status and will be managed by school committees elected by the Turkish community. In this study, educational institutions in Western Thrace, especially Medrese-i Hayriyye are described in the perspective of their history, management, financial structures, educators and educational programs.

Author(s): Dragana Kunčer / Language(s): Serbian Issue: 44/2023

The paper presents the transcription and translation of the Chapter 33 in the second volume of Marsigli’s monumental work, Pannonian-Moesian Danube, published in 1726. In this chapter, Marsigli describes the remnants of Trajan’s Bridge’s pillars and fortifications on the Danube, which he discovered in 1689. At that time, he was surveying the Danube’s banks to construct a pontoon bridge to meet the Austrian army’s needs. Marsigli details the circumstances that led him to discover the remnants, offers his views on ancient authors’ accounts of this bridge, and provides comprehensive technical observations concerning the bridge’s various elements, construction, dimensions, and materials. He juxtaposes his measurements and conclusions with the bridge’s depictions on Trajan’s Column in Rome and on coins from Trajan’s era. The description is accompanied by several drawings.

RATNI OMLADINSKI ROMANI DUŠANA KOSTIĆA U JUGOSLOVENSKOM I CRNOGORSKOM KONTEKSTU

RATNI OMLADINSKI ROMANI DUŠANA KOSTIĆA U JUGOSLOVENSKOM I CRNOGORSKOM KONTEKSTU

Author(s): Svetlana Kalezić-Radonjić / Language(s): Montenegrine Issue: 46/2023

War literature for children and young adults, especially books which thematizes the World War II, has been an important part of the Yugoslav literary canon for half a century. In my paper, I will try to shed light on its specifics, the wider social context in which it appears, its role in the process of politicization and its particular appearance within Montenegrin youth literature, using the examples of two war novels by the famous Montenegrin writer Dušan Kostić. The theme and overall concept of the war novel for children and young adults fits into the existing context of war prose, but due to its numerous specificities, it forms a separate entity. As it is intended for a special type of readership, it is understood that this type of prose satisfies its horizon of expectations, which is why there are numerous compromises in which the categories of realism and objectivity are most often problematized, while children as the main characters are often clothed in a veil of omnipotence. Most of the writers of this topic for children and young people retain the traditional-realist concept, the step-by-step plot, the omnipresent narrator and the chronological composition in terms of the structure and procedure of the novel. In this context, complexity emerges as a key distinguishing feature between prose for children and prose for adults - while more complex literary procedures have become "domesticated" in literature for adults, literature for children and young adults generally does not abound with examples of more modern literary treatment. Although novels for children with the theme of the National War of Liberation belong to the subgenre of action novels, they nevertheless have some specificities that set them apart from that group to some extent - action and psychological elements are largely interwoven here, which contributes to a more complex novel weaving. The National War of Liberation proved to be a rich source of literary inspiration in Yugoslav literature, which could not be avoided since the topic was imposed based on psychological, but also pragmatic-political, ideological motives. Since the young reader identifies with the main character, for psycho-emotional reasons his death was often unacceptable, which led to many "violent" artistic compromises between what would suit the reader and what was probable. A large number of writers followed the line of overemphasized action, overexposed children's heroism, or black-and-white techniques in character modeling, thus creating literature that painted the war first of all as one big adventure, completely losing sight of its inhuman condition and the dimension of destiny for the sensitive children's psyche. Therefore, most of the works of that period were characterized by an extraordinary similarity, almost a uniformity - they were built according to more or less the same model, with many elements that would mark that type of prose. In works of lower literary quality, children completely obscure the world of adults, as if only they are fighting a war, and any actors from that world are reduced to the role of extras. In the higher quality works on this topic, more trust is shown in young readers and in their ability to understand war as a complex phenomenon. Instead of an idealized hero with a crystal clear moral and ideological profile, a hero with all the attributes of his human mediocrity and imperfection appears more and more often - a being who is beset by doubts and temptations. The discrepancy between quantity and quality is the key feature of the period in which war prose dominated, simply because a large number of works repeated the "already seen" - they did not enhance the novelistic technique, nor the conceptual reflection of war as a phenomenon. One of the purposes of this prose was to establish the young socialist citizen. Kostić's war novels (Gluva pećina, 1956, and Sutjeska, 1958) are distinguished by their quality, and by their atmosphere, subject matter, and how the subject is treated, they belong to young adults’, and not children's literature. Dušan Kostić does not spare his readers, nor does he pander to them, simplify the complex matter by leading them down the path of naive spheres, or write tendentially for them; instead, he uses numerous psychological elements, which is why he can be read equally by various age groups. Kostić most often shows children caught in the whirlwind of war, powerless to resist the storm, but with a strong drive for self-preservation. The author managed to skillfully avoid the manufacture of heroism by focusing on psychological aspects, atypical for this type of children's prose. The epilogues of Kostić's war novels are artistically defined, because even though they do not have happy endings, an ontological optimism shines through them, without which literature for children and young people is unimaginable.

Author(s): Danièle Dehouve / Language(s): Spanish Issue: 37/2023

This article deals with the divinatory calendar of 260 days called tonalpohualli, formed by 20 signs and 13 numerals, as used in Central Mexico at the time of the Spanish conquest. An analysis of almanacs in some codices of the so-called Borgia Group demonstrates that the generating principle of their symbolisms was that of the succession of the days within a system based on the omnipresence of the number “four”, associated with a movement from right to left that designated and recreated the movement of the sun. Th e examples of “one”, “fi ve”, “nine” and “thirteen” show that the symbolism of the deities that reigned over various periods of time went hand in hand with the order of the numerals that qualifi ed them in the tonalpohualli.

In Aymara society (highlands of Bolivia), a certain number of numerical sets are noteworthy, since they have specifi c names and correspond to what Olivier Keller calls quanta. In this article we will highlight some of them, in particular a tetrad called Pusisuyu, a fundamental quantum realized in various contexts that accounts for the relationship with time (past/present and future) and with local and cosmological space. Th e rotation of the traditional authorities of the ayllu throughout a four-year cycle highlights this quantum, which is also an expression of an attempt to neutralize the instability and imbalance inherent to dualism.

Author(s): Fernando Larraz / Language(s): Spanish Issue: 37/2023

This paper focuses on the case of three novels written in Spain at the beginning of the 1960s which were banned by the Francoist censorship because they raised the problematic return of those defeated in the war to their places of origin. Th ese novels reveal the immorality on which Franco’s society was based and the impossibility of reconciliation under the dominant system. Th e ban on these works is framed in a context of increasing censorship and the end of the model of objectivist literature of social realism. Th e three texts, the censorship fi les and their dissemination circumstances are examined and compared in this article. It is concluded that censorship meant an eff ective barrier to prevent Spanish society from being aware of the social and political contradictions of the system.

“O leito” de Nacho Taibo. Autonomía, temor e desexo ucrónicos

Author(s): Mario Regueira / Language(s): Spanish Issue: 38/2023

This article examines the challenges regarding classification presented by uchronies or alternative histories, as part of the science fiction subgenre, by analysing “O leito” (The bed). This work written by Nacho Taibo was one of the most relevant short stories in Galician language during the post-Franco regime. This discussion will also reflect on the role of alternative history in the discipline of history as well as its specific practice within minority cultures and in contexts of adversity or political resistance, both characteristics which can be identified in the Galician cultural field at the end of Franco dictatorship.

Author(s): Ana Davis González / Language(s): Spanish Issue: 38/2023

The following article is divided in two parts: the fi rst one, of a methodological nature, is a theoretical analysis of the archive as a device for historiographic review, which we will exemplify with the CeDInCI archive (Center for Documentation of Left -wing Culture, Buenos Aires) where we examined the 1930s and 1940s left -wing Argentine cultural magazines. This consultation was aimed at reexamining the Argentine hemerographic fi eld in order to publicize cultural magazines that, in the face of Sur’s hegemony, belong to the periphery but, nevertheless, tried to compete with Ocampo’s magazine in its attempt to internationalization but through Soviet culture. Th us, the second part of the research provides an account of the consulted magazines, of their historiographical interest, and is specifi cally focuses on Orientación and La hora, fundamental dissemination organs for left -wing culture of that period. Specifi cally, we have selected those texts that accounted for intellectuals’ trips to the Soviet Union, as it is a predominant discursive mode among Latin American writers throughout the 20th century, hence our objective is to elucidate the way in which this genre arises and spreads from the thirties.

The Spanish Inquisition generated a number of interesting and very useful working papers, which are a highly valuable source of information to the History of Spanish Language. Particular attention should be drawn, in our opinion, to the “alegación fiscal”, an 18th century type of document generated by the “Holy Office” (the institution of the Spanish Inquisition), which is the heir to the type of document known as “relaciones de causa”. This new type of texts synthesized the inquisition process (“the process of faith”) in an unofficial working draft . The specific characteristics of the “alegación fiscal”, including the speed with which texts were written or the fact that they were not designed for publishing, bring this type of document closer to immediacy texts. They also provide additional information on the Spanish language from the 18th century. The present study examines 13 “alegaciones fiscales” (18th and 19th centuries) from the Inquisition Court of Granada, Cordoba and Seville. Th ese texts include several number of cases of “laísmo”, a grammatical phenomenon which is infrequent in Southern Spanish. We aim to analyse the frequency of “laísmo” in this type of documents. Evidence from recent research shows that this grammatical phenomenon was widespread during the 18th century, even in Andalusian or Southern Spanish (Sáez Rivera 2008, Vaamonde 2015).
