Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the transcription and translation of the Chapter 33 in the second volume of Marsigli’s monumental work, Pannonian-Moesian Danube, published in 1726. In this chapter, Marsigli describes the remnants of Trajan’s Bridge’s pillars and fortifications on the Danube, which he discovered in 1689. At that time, he was surveying the Danube’s banks to construct a pontoon bridge to meet the Austrian army’s needs. Marsigli details the circumstances that led him to discover the remnants, offers his views on ancient authors’ accounts of this bridge, and provides comprehensive technical observations concerning the bridge’s various elements, construction, dimensions, and materials. He juxtaposes his measurements and conclusions with the bridge’s depictions on Trajan’s Column in Rome and on coins from Trajan’s era. The description is accompanied by several drawings.
