The stability of financial sector entities is a prerequisite for the undisturbed functioning of economies in the modern world. It was strongly disturbed, however, during the global financial crisis in 2008-2010 and the inefficiencies of corporate governance institutions are often mentioned as the important reasons for this destabilization. At the same time, the impact of corporate governance standards on the stability of banks seems to be under-explored in the literature and this book attempts to fulfill such a research gap. Its main objective is to assess, if the particular corporate governance standards influence the financial stability of banks listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange during the 2005-2015 period. The theoretical and empirical analysis presented in the book identify the key corporate governance standards that may affect the security of banks listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange. And the research conducted by the author allows assessing the selected mechanisms of corporate governance in the banks listed on the WSE in 2005-2015 as well as the stability measured with the capital adequacy ratio. Finally, the econometric models identify the corporate governance standards determining the stability of public banks during the period under study.

The book is an attempt to capture basic concepts and tools of mathematical demography, e.g. demographic rates, probabilities of demographic events, life tables, vital rates or synthetic reproduction rates. The book gives a clear exposition of assumptions and limitations of basic methods used in demographic analysis. The introduced issues are illustrated using numeric examples and completed with exercises for self-assessment. The manual can be treated as a valuable completion of the demographic literature with special regard to the cohort analysis. Some aspects of estimating the population size and the population change are also discussed, what allows to extend the evaluation perspective on the replacement process of generations. The book was intended to be used for academic scholars and professionals in population studies, who need to manage with demographic concepts and measures, as well as the manual in training courses for students of economic studies, specializing in the field of demography.

Second-hand goods, i.e. goods previously owned and held for resale, had been marginalized for a long time. A breakthrough came with the emergence of e-commerce conducted among natural persons, as on auction-style and advertisements websites. The global listing of second-hand products emphasized the problem of appropriate pricing. The author of the publication has analyzed a number of completed transactions on the leading Polish auction-style website in the context of the final bid price. The wide range of activities constituting the bidders’ behaviour has been assumed to be one of the most significant contributing factors. The result of the research are the models of a final bid price mechanism of second-hand goods, implemented via a proprietary IT system.

Książka ma charakter teoretyczno-empiryczny i trzy główne cele. Pierwszy z nich to wyjaśnienie i systematyzacja pojęć związanych z zaufaniem w relacjach business-to-business (B2B). W warstwie metodycznej celem było rozwinięcie metody pomiaru zaufania w ujęciu dynamicznym oraz konceptualizacja i operacjonalizacja kluczowych pojęć. Jako trzeci (poznawczy) cel wybrano określenie charakteru zmian zaufania z uwzględnieniem perspektywy nabywcy i dostawcy oraz identyfikację wpływu dynamiki zaufania na funkcjonowanie relacji business-to-business i osiąganych efektów. Część teoretyczna powstała na podstawie krytycznego, pogłębionego i interdyscyplinarnego przeglądu literatury. Większość materiału źródłowego stanowiły artykuły publikowane w anglojęzycznych czasopismach naukowych. Na potrzeby monografii zaprojektowano i przeprowadzono badania z wykorzystaniem zróżnicowanych metod badawczych: eseju, indywidualnych wywiadów pogłębionych oraz kontekstowo osadzonych w środowisku projektowym badań ankietowych (CATI). Oryginalny wkład monografii do badań nad zaufaniem można szczególnie odnieść do pogłębionego rozpoznania zmienności zaufania w czasie w relacjach B2B, zwłaszcza w kontekście relacji budowanych wokół projektów, jako obszaru zarządzania. Dowiedziono, że w badaniach nad zaufaniem istotne jest uwzględnienie czasu i etapu cyklu życia relacji. Ważne teoretycznie, a także praktycznie jest dowiedzenie poprzez badania empiryczne wpływu zmienności zaufania na efekty ekonomiczne i pozaekonomiczne relacji biznesowych, a jednocześnie powiązanie zmienności zaufania z innymi mechanizmami budującymi relacje B2B. Ujęcie zaufania w monografii wpisuje się w nurt relacyjnego badania zaufania jako jednego ze zjawisk pozostających w zainteresowaniu nauk społecznych.

Poland was a country relatively unscathed by the global financial crisis that began in 2007. Polish banks were not involved in the market for securities linked to U.S. subprime loans, and exports' relatively small share in GDP meant that the slowdown in the global economy did not impact the Polish economy significantly. During the period under consideration, Poland's debt was relatively small compared to the countries of southern Europe, and its positive economic growth rate made it possible to avoid radical cuts in budget expenditure. In spite of this, the effects of the crisis were felt particularly strongly by the banking sector and the bond market. The research described in the monograph serves the understanding of the crisis' consequences for the Polish banking sector and the mechanism through which it was transmitted to the Polish interbank market, as well as to assess the central bank's ability to implement monetary policy during the crisis. It also examines the causes of an increase in the risk premium of Polish bonds and assesses the bonds whose countries had the greatest impact on shaping this risk.

The publication is a monograph describing comprehensively the issue of regulatory and fiscal burdens on the banking sector and their consequences for the level of loans, in the time perspective before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a compendium of knowledge in the field of broadly understood finance, about the nature and mechanisms of the functioning of external burdens on the banking sector and related problems. The authors attempt to present this type of regulation in the context of the security and financial stability of the banking system, as well as in a broader perspective of the financial system. They present the current (as of 2021) burden, paying attention to specific instruments of fiscal and regulatory policy. Using the econometric model, they operationalize the main objective of the study, which is to determine and analyze the impact of external burdens on the lending potential of the banking sector, as well as an attempt to identify base scenarios. Previous studies have rarely attempted to combine regulatory and fiscal requirements in the context of, among other things, an in-depth analysis of the requirements for NPL Non-Performing Loans. Monothematic publications focused on a narrow approach to this type of external load prevailed. The originality of this publication is the collection of information on regulatory and fiscal requirements for the banking sector, and especially the presentation of this issue during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is one of the first items that comprehensively address this type of issue. Its advantage is the multifaceted nature of the issues described.

Public-private partnership is both a fascinating and frustrating area of research. PPP is not a simple recipe for financial shortages experienced by public entities; it is a complicated mechanism that requires meeting many conditions to function efficiently. The authors present their thoughts and conclusions against the background of the existing state of knowledge about PPP and assess the level of institutional maturity of PPP in the context of public support for this formula in Poland. The monograph consists of six chapters. The first and second chapters constitute the theoretical foundation, describe the genesis and institutional conditions of public-private partnership, its subject, specificity, significance, and financing of PPP. The next chapter presents the state of the PPP market and the requirements for its development; it starts with an international framework to analyze the number, value, and areas of PPP application, then describes the situation in Poland against this background. The authors also investigate the success factors of public-private partnership projects. The fourth chapter is devoted to the issues of regeneration. The authors synthesize it and then present the historical conditions for developing PPP in regeneration in Great Britain to deliver Polish solutions and problems in this field. Chapter five, describing transport solutions in the PPP formula, has a similar practical dimension. The authors focus on the road, transport projects, and transport-related infrastructure, referring to British and Polish solutions. An extensive summary of the considerations carried out in work can be found in chapter six. The monograph ends with a synthetic conclusion.

The aim of the monograph is to create a compendium of theoretical-empirical-application knowledge, covering the foundations of finance theory, with particular emphasis on the problems of financing modern enterprises, the methodology of measuring their achievements (ex post analysis) and development plans (“ex ante” analysis). The unique character of the monograph is reflected in the composition of its content, which is evident both in the structure and in the presented content. All this is supported by numerous empirical examples. The monograph consists of six chapters. The first chapter contains theoretical issues relating to definitions of the most important concepts related to corporate finance. The next two chapters present the sources of financing most often used by modern entrepreneurs. In turn, the fourth chapter is devoted to the initial analysis and evaluation of the enterprise’s financial management and is enriched with an empirical study. In the fifth chapter, the authors present the methods for estimating the value of an enterprise used in economic practice, together with a case study. In the sixth chapter, the authors explain the fundamental issues related to the concept of “efficiency” and discuss the key methods for evaluating investment projects, using numerous numerical examples. Therefore, the inclusion of the most important problems of theory, analysis and evaluation, as well as empiricism of corporate finance, with particular emphasis on the aspect of enterprises’ financing, in one literature item, is the monograph’s greatest value.

The aim of the monograph is to systematize the current knowledge on the supplier involvement in product development (SIPD) and to deepen it the light of key challenges for the management of contemporary supply chains. There are four chapters in the monograph, only the first of which is the theoretical one. It introduces the key definitions, approaches and concepts related to the product development in value chain. The second chapter is a systematic literature review, which resulted in the analysis of 170 scientific articles. The description of the SLR outcomes was presented in eight thematic areas and led to the identification of various measures and existing research gaps. They became the basis for the development of research questionnaires and designing empirical research. The survey covered 500 manufacturing companies operating in Poland. It allowed answering eight research questions, including the recognition of the impact of SIPD on building resilient relationships with suppliers and designing products with reduced environmental impact. Case studies deepen the topic of Design for Environment and circular economy, presenting examples of cooperation with suppliers in the light of the NPD process and stages of the product life cycle. The monograph ends with, inter alia, recommendations for enterprises wishing to achieve better results in the product development chain as well as future research directions. The management of international capital flows is a new phenomenon in international financial relations. The IMF's institutional approach to capital controls is a new concept in international relations. For the first time in Polish literature, they were collected in a uniform study. The aim of the monograph is to review selected approaches and research on the determinants of the application of capital controls in the global economy from the perspective of the International Monetary Fund. The financial revolution, the beginning of which dates back to the 20th century, globalization and the development of technology create, on the one hand, opportunities for the development of individual countries, and on the other hand, they carry threats unprecedented in the economic history of the world. Sudden stops, financial crises in the 1990s and in the two decades of the 21st century caused by capital flows gave rise to their institutional location. For the first time in 2012, the International Monetary Fund, following the outbreak of the global financial crisis, adopted the Institutional View, which states that it is possible for the authorities of given countries to apply measures to control the international movement of capital.The COVID-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine led to a renewed revision of the views of the International Monetary Fund on the management of international capital flows. The revision of the Institutional View made in 2022 at the IMF states that the problem of capital control is current, important and urgent to be solved in the context of maintaining the financial stability of the global economy.
