Dzieci z rodzin z problemem alkoholowym stanowią grupę wysokiego ryzyka dotyczącego zaburzeń zdrowia psychicznego. Ostatnie szacunki wskazują, że w Polsce około 1,5 mln dzieci wychowuje się przy pijącym rodzicu. Dzięki licznym badaniom empirycznym coraz lepiej rozumiemy ich sytuację. Zaburzenia psychiczne rodziców bezpośrednio wynikające z uzależnienia oraz z nim współistniejące mogą negatywnie oddziaływać na zdrowie fizyczne i psychiczne dzieci i młodzieży na różnych etapach życia, jak też prowadzić do wystąpienia objawów eksternalizacyjnych i internalizacyjnych. Najnowsze prace naukowe podkreślają jednak duże zróżnicowanie populacji dzieci alkoholików, a wiedza empiryczna pozwala na coraz lepsze rozumienie mechanizmów odpowiedzialnych za to zróżnicowanie. Książka stanowi kontynuację zainteresowań autorki problematyką funkcjonowania dzieci alkoholików. Znaczne rozpowszechnienie problemu alkoholizmu w społeczeństwie skłania do nieustannego poszerzania wiedzy na temat dzieci uzależnionych rodziców oraz poszukiwania empirycznych dowodów na obecność istotnych dla ich rozwoju czynników ryzyka i zasobów. Wyniki tych badań mogą wpłynąć na poprawę skuteczności i efektywności programów profilaktycznych oraz działań interwencyjnych, kierowanych do dzieci i młodzieży szczególnie zagrożonych zbyt wczesnym i nadmiernym spożywaniem alkoholu oraz innych substancji psychoaktywnych.

In the book are presented 12 case studies, which describe activities of selected enterprises from various trades as part of their marketing strategies of internationalization. Authors presented problems of marketing-mix strategies on the foreign markets, i.e. selection of marketing instruments, their mutual relations and role of internationalization orientation in marketing strategy. On account of diversity of enterprises, which was subjected to research, are discussed also uniqueness of marketing of small and medium-sized firms on the foreign markets. The presented publication broadens knowledge on the subject of internalization and marketing strategies on the foreign markets, which are carry out by polish firms. It may be useful both for managers of companies, and for students of economic and management fields of study. A case study is one of methods of qualitative research, which is very helpful in solving of problems in range of management. It is detailed description of usually real economic phenomenon, for example organization, management process, its elements or environment of organization in order to formulate conclusions about reasons and results of its course. It is practices at universities as the method of management education, particularly with reference to teaching of marketing, because it permits to compare students’ knowledge with practice of functioning of enterprises and it shapes analytical and decision-making skills.

The financial market information effectiveness in selected countries of the European Union

The aim of the book is an attempt to assess whether the selected European financial markets have been informationally efficient in the years 2004-2017 in the semi-strong form and to comparatively analyse if selected emerging markets differ from mature markets. The study is an attempt to verify the hypothesis of above-average rate of return on various financial assets to announce the decision of the central bank to change or leave the reference rate unchanged and to issue a decision by the national statistical institution with the Gross Domestic Product index on the yield curve and the stock market. In the empirical part of the dissertation is presented and applied analysis of test events. In a study to compare several financial markets, author selected three countries: Poland, Czech Republic and Great Britain whose choice resulted from several common features that were characterized in the book. The study used the following financial instruments: interest interbank FRA contracts, bonds, swaps IRS indices. The obtained results of empirical research on the markets in Poland, the Czech Republic and the United Kingdom have shown that the analyzed financial markets are not fully compliant with the theory of effective markets in the form of an average. However, as detailed analysis of individual segments of financial markets in individual countries had such features. // Celem książki jest próba oceny czy wybrane europejskie rynki finansowe były efektywne informacyjnie w latach 2004–2017 w formie półsilnej oraz dokonanie analizy porównawczej pomiędzy wybranymi rynkami wschodzącymi a dojrzałymi. Badanie jest próbą zweryfikowania hipotezy o ponadprzeciętnej stopie zwrotu z różnych aktywów finansowych na ogłoszenia decyzji banku centralnego o zmianie lub pozostawieniu bez zmian stopy referencyjnej oraz ogłoszenia decyzji przez narodową instytucję statystyczną o wskaźniku Produktu Krajowego Brutto na krzywą dochodowości oraz giełdowy rynek akcji. W części empirycznej rozprawy przedstawiono i zastosowano analizę testów zdarzeń. W badaniu do porównania kilku rynków finansowych, wybrano trzy kraje: Polskę, Czechy i Wielką Brytanię, których wybór wynikał z kilku cech wspólnych, które scharakteryzowano w książce. W badaniu do oceny wpływu (reakcji) wykorzystano kilka instrumentów finansowych i indeksy giełdowe tj.: stopy rynku międzybankowego kontrakty FRA, obligacje skarbowe, swapy IRS, indeksy giełdowe. Uzyskane wyniki badań empirycznych na rynkach w Polsce, Czechach i Wielkiej Brytanii wykazały, że analizowane rynki finansowe nie są w pełni zgodne z teorią rynków efektywnych w formie średniej. Jednak jak szczegółowo przeanalizowano poszczególne segmenty rynków finansowych w poszczególnych krajach posiadały takie cechy.

The presented study is devoted to the analysis of the development of the private equity/ venture capital market in European countries, with particular emphasis on Polish market. The taxonomic methods used in the study, allowed to determine the level of PE/VC market development through a set of objectivized features defining it. Thanks to this, it was possible to indicate the hierarchy of European countries in terms of the level of development of this market and then to group these countries. Based on the results of the conducted study, the analysis of numerous reports on this market and extensive literature studies, a detailed description of individual groups of the PE/VC market is presented. In addition, the work also includes the indication of legal and organizational, social and economic barriers to the development of the analysed market along with recommendations for limiting the strength of their influence. The study is addressed both to researchers and students of financial and economic faculties, as well as to practitioners associated with this sector, i.e. investors and decision makers responsible for development policies using modern investment financing tools.

Electricity Prices in Poland

The costs and availability of electricity are the basic factor determining the dynamics of the development of economies and the improvement of living conditions of societies. This factor determines the level of industry competitiveness and the quality of life of residents. The study presents the main reasons for the increase in electricity prices in Poland. In addition to the most frequently cited reasons, i.e. an increase in coal prices and CO2 emission allowance prices, they also include low competition on the electricity market, which is mainly the result of increased market concentration, decreasing dynamics of energy supplier switching, and low import of electricity. The main economic and social effects of the increase in electricity prices in Poland were identified. They include energy poverty, which in Poland has been the subject of systematic research for only a few years. These effects also include a decrease in industry competitiveness and a slowdown in the country's economic development as well as an increase in prices of consumer goods and services, and consequently an increase in inflation. The study identifies the main actions that can be taken by both the state, its regulatory and control bodies, as well as by participants of the electricity market to keep prices of this energy as low as possible. These actions were evaluated for their effectiveness.

The book is an important contribution to the scientific discussion on the development of franchising in Poland. It highlights the significance of franchising in building the value of an enterprise. Polish companies generally seek the benefits of franchising as franchisees, adopting a tried business model that guarantees an easier entry into the market as well as a lower bankruptcy risk. Franchise enterprises are able to create their value in a definitely shorter period of time (gaining market share, a recognizable brand, loyal customers, more favorable purchasing terms). However, a gap exists in the Polish scientific literature when it comes to the influence of franchising on the value of the franchisor’s enterprise. Relevant research in this area has been in short supply. Therefore, there is an obvious need to address this omission by studying the phenomenon, conducting necessary analyses and presenting the existing mechanisms. The monograph is the first study on the Polish market devoted to the functioning of safe assets in the international financial system. The concept of safe assets is more and more commonly used in relation to phenomena occurring in financial markets, including debt markets. However, no attempt has been made so far to comprehensively explain its complex, multi-layered nature.The authors of the monograph make a pioneering effort to explain the concept of the safe asset by indicating the attributes and functions of these financial instruments/ this category of financial instruments. In particular, two scientific perspectives are taken: demand and supply analysis. The supply analysis, which constitutes a larger part of the monograph, emphasizes the dominant role of publicly issued safe assets in relation to privately issued ones. The demand side analysis depicts the main holders of safe assets and significant changes in their motives and trends.The global public safe assets shortage and the growing demand for this category of assets pose one of the greatest challenges to the stability of the global economy, raising the question of alternative sources of meeting investors’ demand for safety. The aim of the study is to assess the perception of stocks’ investment attractiveness through the prism of their market prices from the investors’ perspective and the verification of pricing effects on the Polish capital market. On the Polish capital market, research on price effects are uncommon, although the area of ​​behavioral finance and market anomalies seems to be quite widely explored. This study complements the research gap in this area. The results of research conducted on foreign capital markets describe the occurrence of various price phenomena, which indicates the existence of a relationship between the stocks market price and investors’ investment decisions which in consequence may translate into the formation of the rate of return of these stocks. In the case of the Polish capital market, it also stated that there is a relationship between the stock price and the return rates generated. It also indicates that the calendar anomalies known in the literature occur with various intensification, depending on the price range of stocks. In addition, it was noted that investors' reactions on split and resplit operations are different depending on the stock price before the event and the coefficient of split or resplit. Research carried out among individual investors has shown that the stock price is the most important factor in the decision-making process and according to respondents, it is about their investment attractiveness. In investors' opinion, the chances of achieving above-average returns are growing along with the stock price.

One of the most important problems that hospitals and healthcare entities struggle with is the problem of adverse events, causing damage to patients. Such damages result in various legal, medical, system, personal, social, and financial repercussions. Since this problem is quite well explored from the point of view of legal liability of healthcare entities for damage to a patient in connection with medical services, as well as from a risk management point of view, the objective of this monograph is to investigate the financial consequences. For this purpose the evaluation was made of the damages asserted and adjudicated as a result of claims for damage caused to patients in hospitals. An additional objective was also to check whether the compulsory third-party insurance of the entities offering medical services guarantees financial security to them. To this end, an analysis was carried out of selected case files related to damages to patients treated in hospitals in Poland, filed in registries of the Regional Court in Łódź in the years 2005-2011, on the basis of which the following were established: the types of adverse events that most often result in claims for compensation and their financial repercussions. What is more, it was verified to what extent these claims were satisfied in court judgments, allowing the claims partially or entirely. As a result of the research carried out, it was determined, among others, that damages to patients generate high compensation claims which are most often related to such adverse events as hospital-acquired infection, medical errors, or medical negligence, while the biggest indemnity component is compensation.

Na koniec omówiono oddziaływanie polityki monetarnej na przedsiębiorczość, z uwzględnieniem podaży pieniądza, przykładowych instrumentów polityki pieniężnej oraz oszczędności i kredytów.
