A short guide through professional reporting on LGBT issues

A short guide through professional reporting on LGBT issues

Kratki vodič kroz profesionalno izvještavanje o LGBT temama

Author(s): Jasmina Čaušević,Lejla Huremović / Language(s): Bosnian

Keywords: professional reporting; guide; LGBT issues;

The term sexuality is closely related to the terms sexual identity and sexual orientation. Sexual identity can be defined as a combination of one's own sexuality, sexual orientation, and public representation of sexual goals, i.e., as the way a person defines his or her own sexual orientation. Sexual orientation is commonly defined as a pattern of emotional and sexual attraction to people of the same or opposite sex. In theoretical terms, sexual orientation encompasses three dimensions: sexual behavior, emotional and erotic attraction, and sexual fantasy. People may or may not show their sexual orientation through their behavior.

Pink report. Annual report on human rights of LGBT persons in 2012 in B&H

Author(s): Mariña Barreiro,Vladana Vasić,Saša Gavrić / Language(s): English

Keywords: LGBT population; human rights; BiH; report;

Authorities in BiH are not really aware that LGBT persons are a part of society and consider their rights inferior to the rights of other groups. This kind of attitude is mostly explained by the low number of visible LGBT persons, and the common consideration that this (meaning homosexuality) or them (meaning LGBT persons) do not exist in BiH. When discussing LGBT rights, most institutions in BiH assume that the prohibition of discrimination regulated by the Anti-discrimination Law in BiH is enough to enable the protection and equality of LGBT persons with other citizens of BiH, and are not sensible enough to notice or deal with other issues that LGBT persons face daily in BiH. Throughout 2012, as LGBT topics have become more visible in BiH through the media coverage, which is still mostly sensational and shocking in order to attract the viewers, and through the work of organisations working on LGBT human rights and activists, hate speech and hate crimes aimed at LGBT people have become more evident as well. The increased visibility of LGBT activism in 2012 was followed by hate speech on web portals, which became even more severe and threatening. In all the cases presented in this report, the response of the authorities was either non-existent or insufficient, and in some of the cases the perpetrators of the incidents were officials. Authorities consistently fail or refuse to condemn the hate speech and intolerance aimed at LGBT persons or to sanction the perpetrators, which leads to the lack of trust of LGBT persons have in governmental institutions. This lack of trust results in LGBT persons not reporting more serious incidents and cases such as discrimination and hate crimes. The first step to better recognition and protection of the rights of LGBT persons is the harmonisation of existing legislation with the Anti-discrimination law of BiH. This was supposed to be done by 2010, but has not yet been completed. Other changes to legislation, such as the introduction of hate crimes and proper prohibition of hate speech, should be included in the Criminal Code of the Federation of BiH, in order to promote and enhance the protection of the rights of LGBT persons, as well as all individuals and minority groups in BiH. Authorities should also be aware that legislation itself is not enough to prevent the violation of human rights of LGBT persons and that they must enforce these laws and regulations. The authorities should also organise mandatory trainings and education for all public officials and personnel, such as police officers and public administration employees.

The Member of Parliament: Between Personal Prestige and Public Expectations

Author(s): Maria Pandevska / Language(s): English

In every society the actors of the institutional culture have their own patterns of discursive and practical behaviour. This approach for analysing the social processes is encouraged by seeking the space of interaction between the role and the identity of social existence. We direct our research towards the functioning of a part of the political elite of the Republic of Macedonia – the Member of Parliament and its opponent – public opinion. So far, in the scholarly research, Parliament has been less interesting as an institution than as a carrier of concentrated political power and authority for regulating social relations. Consequently, the socio-political research, which is concerned with the power of society groups, rarely treats the question of the representatives separately; they are usually analysed as part of the political elite or the elite of power. We shall try and make the necessary distinction and locate some of the specifics of the institution representative, because every social occurrence is connected to the society structure in one way or other.

CHIASMATIC ENCOUNTERS IN THE PERCEPTION OF FILMS

CHIAZMATIKUS TALÁLKOZÁSOK A FILMI BEFOGADÁSBAN

Author(s): László Tarnay / Language(s): Hungarian / Publication Year: 0

Keywords: chiasm;intermediality;Kim Ki-Duk

The paper investigates the relationship between chiasm as a fundamental diacritical concept used from philosophy to psychology and representation in film and its perception. Chiasm is a nontotalizing idea of the encounter between the ’Self’ and the Other. It derives from ancient and classical rhetoric where it was assigned a metonymic structure vis-a-vis the more common form of metaphor. The basic argument is that film or the moving image has several representational planes where metonymy is operant, first and foremost montage and intermediality. The paper discusses only the first of the two where reflexivity plays a minimal role, and it also traces consequences of chiasmatic montage at the perceptual level of film images. The paper proposes four basic categories or types of film perception: a) categorical perception, b) aspect seeing, c) specificity recognition and d) modulation. It concludes with a detailed analysis of Seom (2000) by the Korean director, Kim Ki-Duk.

Školní třída pod genderovou lupou

Author(s): Lucie Jarkovská / Language(s): Czech / Publication Year: 0

Keywords: School; education; gender equality; gender structure in classroom; individual identity;

(Re)discovering identities from the human pain, suffering and tragedy as poetical topics in SSL classes: A didactical proposal

Author(s): Ronald Campos López / Language(s): Spanish / Publication Year: 0

Keywords: SSL teaching approach; cultural component; poetry; pain-suffering-tragedy; meaningful and participatory learning

This paper presents a didactic proposal to work mainly the cultural component according to Cervantes Institute Curriculum Plan (2006). The aesthetic approach, interpretation, creative attitude and critical thinking are focus in the human pain, suffering and tragedy topics. This work allows exploring multiple identities present in SSL classroom. For that, the poems Los heraldos negros, of the Peruvian Cesar Vallejo; Un carnívoro cuchillo, of the Spanish Miguel Hernandez; Un terrorista: Él observa, of the Polish Wisława Szymborska; and the painting The Scream, of the Norwegian Edvard Munch are required. This proposal is led to C2 level students. This seeks to generate a participatory and meaningful environment with regard to the poems and picture mentioned, and their sociocultural and historic contexts, where they appear or those that they appeal. Equally, the relations of these texts with the student daily experiences are considered.

History of Religions and Cultural Fashions Revisited

Author(s): Jerry Cullum / Language(s): English / Publication Year: 0

Keywords: History of Religions; Cultural fashion; Revision; Cultural; Humanity

The academic discipline of the history of religions is intrinsically interdisciplinary, and perhaps in a position to contribute particularly useful insights to the dialogue across academic boundaries. This essay is intended to present a very thin slice of cultural responses to our contemporary condition, and to suggest a few possible resources for analysis of them.

NEW DEVELOPMENT PARADIGM − POST COVID-19 DEVELOPMENT

NOVA RAZVOJNA PARADIGMA – POST-COVID RAZVOJ

Author(s): Tihomir Domazet / Language(s): Serbian / Publication Year: 0

Keywords: economic crisis;COVID-19 crisis; new paradigm of development;

The relative development of Croatia in relation to the EU27 was 85.1% in 1986, and 59.5%in 2020, while the same ratio for Serbia is 66.0% (1986) and 37.5% (2020), and for allCEEC17 countries accounted for 62.0% (1986) and 70.4% (2020), respectively. So, simplified,it is a failure of convergence.Gross national income (GNI) is also unfavorable, so the GNI/GDP ratio CEEC17 was 85.0%in 2008 and 97.5% in 2019.Several CEEC17 countries essentially failed to resolve the crisis (2008), and then the whole world was hit by a pandemic, which can be classified as a natural disaster. Although almost all countries in the world are trying to solve the COVID-19 crisis by the common economic and financial measures, problems and doubts arise at the same time.There are some estimates of economic growth in the period 2021-2030, for example for Croatia2.0% on average per year, according to which individual development would still be significantly below the 1986 level. Thus, the question arises as to whether significantly higher growth and development can be achieved in the period 2021-2030, or what measures should be taken to achieve this.The new system is based on several postulates: (i) abandonment of existing economic models as well as economic theories that are no longer valid, (ii) creation of a development paradigm based on new social and economic relations brought by COVID-19, (iii) greater use of knowledge, technologies for the benefit of labor and society as a whole and (iv) a new relationship between economics and philosophy as the driving force of development.COVID-19 brings tremendous changes, and the existing Western civilization cannot provide answers to insoluble contradictions, which means that a new world and a new system is just emerging.A podcast to the new system is a possible contribution of regional connectivity to the new development paradigm.

Author(s): Jokin Lanz / Language(s): Spanish / Publication Year: 0

Keywords: Aquitanians; Celtiberians; Berones; Autrigones; alliance

After the arrival of Rome in the western surroundings of the Pyrenees, some of the communities that inhabited the region quickly formed coalitions to defend their territory and were able to face the foreign power. For this purpose, strong mechanisms were used that were deeply rooted in the region and had proved to be capable of creating large military coalitions amongst different communities, giving them a certain military strength, and by adopting, when necessary, typically Roman military techniques. The attitude of some of these communities was clear evidence of the high degree of cohesion and ethnic consciousness that they had previously developed.

Variety druhé modernity: kosmopolitní obrat v sociální a politické teorii a výzkumu

Author(s): Ulrich Beck,Edgar Grande / Language(s): Czech / Publication Year: 0

Keywords: modernity; cosmopolitanism; social theory; political theory;

I. Un concept cu geometrie variabilă - Redescoperirea europei centrale

Author(s): Tony R. Judt / Language(s): Romanian / Publication Year: 0

Keywords: Central Europe; rediscovering;
