St Teresa - a Missionary

Author(s): Iain Matthew / Language(s): English,Polish / Issue: 1/2016

Keywords: St Teresa; mission; apostolic intention; prayer; contemplative lifestyle

St Teresa of Avila’s project, founding contemplative communities of women in Castile and Andalusia, was unequivocally apostolic in its intention. The structure of her Way of Perfection, and the starting point of the Foundations prove this. The article argues that st Teresa deliberately chose the contemplative lifestyle, as the way to reach deeper into humanity’s wounds and achieve a more radical healing.

Towards the Philosophy of Friendship. In a Dialogue with Plato, Aristotle and St Teresa

Towards the Philosophy of Friendship. In a Dialogue with Plato, Aristotle and St Teresa

Ku filozofii przyjaźni. W dialogu z Platonem, Arystotelesem i św. Teresą od Jezusa

Author(s): Albert Stanisław Wach / Language(s): English,Polish / Issue: 1/2016

Keywords: philosophy of friendship; Plato; Aristotle; St Teresa; eros; idea of friendship; mystical experience

The entire text is divided into four chapters, two of which are published in the present issue of Itinera Spiritualia. In Chapter One, historical in its character, all participants of the debate on friendship voice their opinion: firstly, we pose the problem of the condition of friendship in the contemporary culture; secondly, Plato and Aristotle shed light on our problem from the point of view of Greek antiquity and their own philosophies; finally, St Teresa, creating a link between our times and Greek antiquity, provides original and significant input into the understanding of friendship. In Chapter Two, of metaphysical character, only two participants of the friendship debate speak: Plato and St. Teresa. Plato the Philosopher employs a strictly speculative method, but he does not lack mystical experience; Teresa the Mystic shares her personal friendship stories, but not without a substantial and rational metaphysical basis.

Carmelite Spirituality in the contemporary world

Carmelite Spirituality in the contemporary world

Author(s): Maliakkal Varghese / Language(s): English,Polish / Issue: 1/2015

Keywords: Carmelite Order;Spirituality;Contemporary World

Physics concerns what we can say about nature. Therefore the world as we present is a construction of our perception, of our sensation, of memories. In the same way spirituality is our basic quest for cognitive understanding of ultimate meanings and values in life. We seek explanations for how we have come to be who and what we are. Spirituality is also a felt-sense; an inner, intuitive knowing of who we are; a deeper awareness about place in relationship to the world of our senses; and an awareness of how we fit into a vaster world beyond our physical selves and sensory reality.

Author(s): Jerzy Wiesław Gogola / Language(s): English,Polish / Issue: 1/2014

Keywords: Teresa of Jesus (Marchocka);Discalced Carmelite Order; Mystical Experience;Mystical Autobiography

On the basis of the example of the mystical experience of Teresa Marchocka,we can see that the process of sanctification does not have the character of stages clearly separated from one another. It is instead a very complex process, consisting of various interspersed elements: aridity, obscurity, abandonment, fear, illuminations, feelings of the presence and of the absence of God, love, etc.

Ku rozumieniu pragnienia jako „locus theologicus”

Author(s): Marian Zawada / Language(s): English,Polish / Issue: 1/2013

Keywords: Desire of God; Anthropology of Desire; Theology of Desire

Considering the subject in general, the issue of desire did not awaken any special interest among theologians, whether on the part of the Scholastics (where it was considered an irrational element), or on the part of moral theology, which viewed it above all as covetousness or lust, making it a threat to the life of grace.

Behind the Scenes of the First Polish Translation of “The Story of a Soul” by St. Therese of Lisieux

Kulisy pierwszego polskiego tłumaczenie "Dziejów Duszy" św. Teresy z Lisieux

Author(s): Jerzy Zieliński / Language(s): Polish,Italian / Issue: 1/2013

Keywords: St Teresa of Lisieux; "The Story of a Soul" (Dzieje Duszy); Anna Julianna Kalkstein; Marie Adèle Rosalie Davy de Virville; Julia Wilczek

Keywords: creation;shabbat;work;feast days;

The Influence of Carmel’s Mystic Experience on Culture

Wpływ mistycznego doświadczenia Karmelu na kulturę

Author(s): Saverio Cannistrà / Language(s): Polish,Italian / Issue: 1/2011

Keywords: Culture;mystical experience;Carmelite order;St Teresa of Avila; St John

Three episodes from the life of Elijah in a spiritual and mystical interpretation

Trzy epizody z życia Eliasza w interpretacji duchowo-mistycznej

Author(s): Marian Zawada / Language(s): Polish,Italian / Issue: 1/2008

Keywords: Elijah;spiritual interpretation; mystical interpretation;

This year, we commemorate the 450th anniversary of a pivotal decision to which the Carmelites were inspired by St Teresa of Jesus. In the current issue of our annual, this accounts for the publication of the text by Fr Ciro García Fernandez. The author, a longstanding expert on the Reformed Carmel, sets out to present the charismatic journey of the Theresian Carmel using thelife-stories and works of the key saints and blesseds of the Order. This approach ofintroducing the Theresian Carmelite charism on the basis of spiritual paths, itinera spiritualia, is wonderfully in sync with the line of our periodical which, as its title suggests, aims at presenting spiritual theology by looking at its expression in the lives of individual people.
