Bob Fosse - Creativity and Inspiration

Bob Fosse - Creativity and Inspiration

BOB FOSSE – CREATIVITATE SI INSPIRATIE

Author(s): Monica Ciută / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: 1/2012

Keywords: cinema & coreography; creativity; inspiration; intuition; genius

This article is a tribute to creator Bob Fosse. The attempt to almost anatomically dissect his genius talent comes from the author's need - a representative of a growing field (Romanian music theatre) - to identify techniques, personality and education references in and for this creative field. The need for true artistic models renders imperative the existence of such observers that identify, understand and then share their knowledge bringing to the fore the existence and creation of undisputed artistic entities in time and space.

Developing Foreign Language Skills and Literacy through Family Learning

Developing Foreign Language Skills and Literacy through Family Learning

Author(s): Ioana-Maria Ursache,Monica Vlad / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2008

Keywords: Family Learning; literacy; informal approaches to FL; life copybook; EU projects

The aim of this article is to offer readers an overview on how linguistic skills can be improved through a non-formal way of learning called Family Learning (FL). We discuss and establish what is commonly understood by FL throughout Europe and present methods and examples of FL practitioners that have managed to improve the linguistic skills of their target groups. Family Learning generically means an informal method of learning born from work undertaken in the voluntary sector and spread by Family Literacy programmes in the USA. The focus of FL is to value learning that takes place within the home and from the family. FL course provision shares strategies to make the home an effective place for learning and to support the learning ambitions of both adults and children.

A Short Analysis of Cultural Globalisation

A Short Analysis of Cultural Globalisation

Author(s): Monica Condruz–Băcescu / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2008

Keywords: cultural globalisation; values; symbols; communication; cultural writings; cross-cultural factors

The main idea of this article is the concept of global culture as it is perceived nowadays due to the spreading of the American life style, goods and values worldwide. The idea of a global culture wasn't possible only during the global modernity time. The cultural writings can overcome the political and linguistic borders on condition that they are translated in the languages of the interested cultural communities. For centuries this process was hindered by the geographical distances and the technical difficulties. With the mondialisation development facilitated by mass-media and the contemporary means of transport, the writings' circulation becomes wider.

DURABLE DEVELOPMENT OF TOURISM AND ITS IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT

Author(s): Elena Tonea,Monica OGÂRLACI / Language(s): English / Issue: 18/2012

Keywords: durable development; ecotourism; environment; touristic potential; raw materials

Tourism is a factor in the degradation and pollution of the environment and of the touristic potential, either by tourist direct pressure on the landscape, flora and fauna or other touristic objectives which can be partially or wholly deteriorated. This can happen due to a misconception about capitalizing and equipping some areas or touristic objectives. That is why promoting some forms of durable development is necessary, as they are based on ecosystems and on the touristic environmental capacity.

FINANCIAL-ACCOUNTING INFORMATION SYSTEMS – RATIO BETWEEN ACCOUNTING ORGANISATION SYSTEM AND INFORMATIC APPROACH

Author(s): Diana Elena Codreanu,Denisa-Elena Parpandel,Ionela Popa,Cristina Otilia Tenovici / Language(s): English / Issue: 18/2012

Keywords: financial-accounting informatic system; decisions; financial-accounting information

Practical activities have lately started to use complex financial-accounting informatic systems on a large scale, facilitating the establishment of a background for improving informational processes and substantiating decisions, also taking account of the requirements when implementing the mechanism of market-oriented economy. The financial-accounting informatic system in any economic organisation has the role to show the data and outcomes of company economic performance in a format that is beneficial and useful to accountants and managers in order to ensure the good running of their companies. Thus, when information is necessary to substantiate a decision in terms of economic matters, the field of financial-accounting data along with the related informatic system provide the information needed for three management functions: planning, control and evaluation.

Early Romanian Exegeses of Fowles’s Major Novels: Translations and Critical Studies Published prior to 1989 and in the Early 90s

Exegeza românească timpurie a principalelor romane ale lui Fowles: traduceri şi studii critice publicate înainte de 1989 şi la începutul anilor ’90

Author(s): Narcisa Schwarz / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: 01/2013

Keywords: translation; novel; critical studies; reception; Romania; traduction; romaine,étude critique; réception; traducere; roman; studiu critic; receptare.

In this article we present the early Romanian exegeses of Fowles’s major novels: translations and critical studies published prior to 1989 and in the early 90s.Fowles’s translations published during this period prove two distinct things: firstly, that after a ten year long gap in between the translation of The French Lieutenant’s Woman and Daniel Martin, the Romanian readership quickly caught on to Fowles’s fiction and translations started to appear at an interval of two to three years; secondly, that the obvious reasons for this order was the reception of Fowles’s novels abroad: the main reason for the translation of The French Lieutenant’s Woman before The Collector, The Aristos and The Magus which preceded it chronologically, must have been the huge success the novel enjoyed in many parts of the Western world. Apart from the translations mentioned above, one can also point to a quite impressive number of critical studies, which actually form the core of any discussion of Fowles’s reception in Romania.

Vintilă Horia, Cavalerul resemnării (The Knight of Resignation). In Exile under the Sign of the Malefic

Vintilă Horia, Cavalerul resemnării. În exil sub semnul maleficului

Author(s): Sofia Sonia Elvireanu / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: 3/2011

Keywords: parable; exile; human condition; choice; interferences

Vintilă Horia tackles the history with regard to the origin of evil and individual’s alienation in a similar way to Albert Camus. His novel, The Knight of Resignation, is a parable about totalitarianism, and ideological evil that makes the human being feeling alienated, in a way that is similar to the situations from Albert Camus’s novel, The Plague. In Vintilă Horia’s opinion, the existential evil can be eradicated only through knowledge. The temporary victory against a visible enemy is not essential, but the people’s eliberation from the common threat with dead since it means an eliberation through knowledge meant to eliminate the source of evil inside the human being, and not its forms. In his novel, The Plague, Albert Camus offers a pragmatic solution against the evil, which is the action that gives sense to existence in an universe where the human being is defined through the act itself, and voluntarily action where the Christian morality does not exist. As far as Vintilă Horia’s work is concerned, the interior metamorphosis existes under the auspices of the Christian morality, and the ideological evil, the tyranny of empires are all consequences of the lost of faith. The communist and nazist hell generated by ideologies brings forward the awareness of a permanent danger of re-activating the evil in the world and the necessity to erradicate its source in order to help peoples to live their life in freedom. This vision explains the philosophy of resignation defended by Horia’s hero. Despite this attitude of initial resignation, Radu-Negru becomes a fighter in the end since he fights for a collective destiny, and not as individual as he is considered in the beginning of the work. Before the moral evil, de-humanization through the mutilation of prisoners’ consciousness meant with a view of transforming the traitors and tortionaries of the power, the exiled prince comes back to finally defend the eternal values of the Romanian identitary space, and the ancient heroes who do not give up in front of danger. The final option of Horia’s hero, the common cause of a nation that rebells itself against the oppression, is similar to the one of Camus’s heroes.

Changing Media Frames after Initiating a Public Policy

Changing Media Frames after Initiating a Public Policy

Changing Media Frames after Initiating a Public Policy

Author(s): V. Boureanu,V. Vîlcu / Language(s): / Issue: 1/2015

Keywords: print media; papilloma virus; framing theory; Romania; 2008

In November 2008, the Tăriceanu Government proposed a public policy in the field of health care; it was the first in Europe. The State undertook/decided to finance a vaccination campaign against human papilloma virus. This benefit, a universal and categorical one, was offered for free to all female citizens, aged 13. We analyzed the reflection of the public policy in the media using the framing theory and interviews with central media representatives in order to discover the categories, through which the event was signified in order to identify journalistic routines. We monitored a total of 66 publications in national media during 2008, identifying 424 articles directly or indirectly related to the campaign. After monitoring these articles we concluded that the media covered the subject well before the authorities proposed a public policy in this field, and discourse analysis supports the hypothesis that pharmaceutical companies and doctors have promoted vaccination, by the well-known mechanisms of medicalization.

Author(s): Sever Cristian Oancea / Language(s): English / Issue: 1/2015

The book edited by Joachim Bahlcke and Konrad Gündisch represents the result of a conference held in Stuttgart in 2008. Several scholars from Germany, Hungary and Romania gathered together in order to speak about what the organizers of the conference called “Toleranz – Koexistenz – Antagonismus. Wahrnehmungen religiöser Vielfalt in Siebenbürgen zwischen Reformation und Aufklärung.“ As the title suggests, three centuries of the Transylvanian past are considered, the “specific” case concerning the topic of identities. Nonetheless, as the contents disclose, the situation of non-Christian groups is not addressed by this book. Therefore, in my view, it would have been more appropriate that at least the title should reflect this situation, by indicating that the book would be focusing on “Confessional diversity” (konfessionelle Vielfalt/ diversitate confesională), as for instance, the Jews (the community of Alba) do not represent the explicit theme of any of the articles.

Promoting Romania's destination branding: From booklets to documentary films

Author(s): Monica Ilie-Prica / Language(s): English / Issue: 17/2016

Keywords: destination branding; country image; country identity; booklet; travel documentary

There have been numerous attempts to create a destination branding strategy for Romania. This article emphasizes the importance of booklets and documentary films as tools to promote the country's image and identity inside and outside the borders. Based on previous research in the field of destination branding, the current study focuses on the content analysis of two booklets that promote Romania's tourism for national and international publics. Furthermore, the article tries to capture the essence of the Romanian travel documentary films in the Communist period, considering that in the 1950s-1960s there used to be a lot of authentic audio-visual material that depicted the culture and the unique landscapes of the country.

The Paris of Matei Vișniec

Parisul lui Matei Vișniec

Author(s): Cristina Scarlat / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: 21/2016

Keywords: Paris; Matei Vișniec; show; daily;

The Paris of Matei Vișniec is one of nostalgia, of the daily street show, of the joy to live in a horizon where past and present, story and history go together, in a harmonious, lively, coloured manner. The documentary made by the Romanian Television (TVR) Iași, in 2015, represents another touching page, signed by another great Romanian who settled down in Paris. Cioran, Ionesco, Eliade, Tzara, Brâncuși breathed there and looked there for their calm, their freedom, their fulfilment. They stood out in a quite significant way and fulfilled themselves, becoming voices who made themselves heard beyond France’s borders. And Romania’s as well! They signed pages of glorious artistic revelations, which seemed as natural as possible, parts of the universal cultural life, turning thus into undeniable trademarks and symbols. Matei Vișniec, together with George Banu, come to join this list of illustrious ones, in a natural, but also abundant, full and bright way. To the applauses after the shows we add the applauses of thoughts and those of words. Just like the TVR documentary does.

SOCIAL REALISM BETWEEN EUROPEITY AND DOGMA

Author(s): Nicoleta Sălcudeanu / Language(s): Romanian / Issue: 08/2016

Keywords: socialist realism; literature; ideology; culture; Europeanism

Socialist realism or "jdanovism", as rightly defined by Sanda Cordoş, benefits itself of a certain kind of expressiveness and it can not be isolated from certain influences that fed it, nor of further influence. But, unlike the other European infiltration, it is a form of imposed cultural influence or, in the most optimistic case, "borrowed" through ideological channels. A somewhat forced synchronization. How fertile was it for the development of Romanian culture, we know: an aesthetic abortion, sterility of literary expressivity. On the other hand, an unfortunate consequence of this "synchrony" was the establishment of a relationship of brutal subordination of the writer towards the political power, he falling in a in cruel bondage to dogma.
