Summary/Abstract: The article presents an analysis of adjectives recorded in the folklore works of Ukrainians in northern Moldova, taking into account their variability, origin, and correlation with the processes of the Ukrainian literary language. It has been noted that adjectives are most preserved in the calendar works of the winter cycle. In the texts presented, adjectives serve as powerful means of creating folk poetic imagery and also exhibit significant variability, particularly phonetic. Using the example of the variability of the adjective щедрий (generous), various processes that took place at different points in time are traced. The functioning of archaic forms of the adjective щедрий in Ukrainian dialects of Moldova once again testifies to their main specificity – the preservation in so-called conservation of relict forms that have already been lost in the territory of the metropolis
