Le Verrier and the Romanians

Summary/Abstract: In 2011 we celebrate 200 years since the birth of Le Verrier, famous for his theoretical prediction of Neptune. The history of this discovery is well known. But less known is the contribution of a Romanian to the scientific work of Paris Observatory during the directorship of Le Verrier. It is about Constantin Capitaneanu, who had outstanding contributions both in Astrometry and Geodesy. He is the author of the first scientific work done by a Romanian scientist: Determination of longitude difference between Iasi and Cernăuţi.
